Battery issues my @ss!

Well his idea of "general use" could be a lot different than your idea of "general use".
Well if general use for a teenager is texting for hours and listening to music then they shouldnt bitch about it. I bought the 1750mah battery and it lasts all day with mild texting, email and phone usage. Fact is that the battery will never be one you'll never have to be mindful of, there's just too much going on on this device. It will have to be charged everyday at least once no matter what you do on it....

Just turn off Background data and you'll never have an issue with the battery. I'm not a Facebook junkie so I don't care about constantly being kept up to date with what every one is up to.

Doesn't this stop the news widget, mail and weather as well?

This is a shot of my battery life today. Unplugged shortly after 9. I played with my phone quite a bit today, lots of pandora, youtube, dolphin hd browser with flash games, several app games and some toyed around with the camera and video. Not all at once of course, there are def idle times. Now this is much heavier use than I would normally do, but for sake of testing the battery I used it a bit more than I'm used to. After 7.5 hours, I'm at 40% battery

What app are you using in that picture?

3 hours 7 minutes since unplugged, 49% remaining.

I have a live wallpaper, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G, and GPS are OFF. Syncing is on quite frequently.

I used 4G for a couple of minutes to web browse and do a speed test when I was in a 4G area, have done about 50 texts, and a few minutes of music.

I think I should be getting a bit more life out of it, but I'd say my use is still heavier than normal so I will see where it stands in a couple of weeks.

I could also do things to make it last longer, but I want to leave it on my ideal settings as much as possible to test it out.

OK I'm much more pleased today....took it off the charger at around 11am it wasn't fully charged (like 95%)...not a lot of usage, texts, phone calls, no internet, few apps. So 5.5 hours off the charger, still at 66%. I did turn off the "enable always-on mobile data" under wireless and network settings...not sure if that's making any difference or not.

I think my problem yesterday was the 4G radio got stuck in some weird state...the phone was pretty hot and the 4G was in a "starting..." status where I couldn't turn it on or off.

So for all the Pre owners (I was a pre owner), I'm saying this battery life is much better. Still some additional tweaking I think I could do to improve it....haven't even turned off background data yet.

A little bit of an update from my earlier post...

Went unplugged for over 5 hours today. 4G/GPS on for about 80% of the time. While 4G was on, I texted people and browsed the web, recorded a 1-minute 720p video and uploaded it to YouTube, and used Google Maps a little bit. Battery was at 30% when I got home and plugged the phone in.

Again, this is the 1750mAh Seidio battery.

my phone finally shut down after watching 90+min of killbill vol 1 on youtube, 1hour of fantasy baseball web surfing, 100 text, 1hr of spongebob on sprint tv for my daughter, 30min call, 1hr of playing around with settings/widgets/taking pics with flash. :)

sooo what it looks like you got 4 to 5 hours of use

My Current stats

5h 25m 40s since unplugged

45% left.

HEAVY use in:

Navigator (for about 30 minutes to go to a bank)
Internet (all day)
Youtube (some videos)
Brightness at HIGHEST
Live Wallpaper

Update

8h 15m 33s since unplugged

25% left

Phone was idle
My girlfriend played some games
Youtube
Of course, live wallpaper still on

I think that's about it.

No more testing. I think battery is way better than some people like to b*** about it.

Battery is great, I am sure we will all have good and bad days with it but thus far (last night being the first night i fully charged it while sleeping) has really conditioned it i am hoping as it was taken off charger at 6am and its now 730pm and its still in good health and at 25% and from i have read from long time Android users that last 20% or so can last hours so I am feeling very confident its working very well!

Have to add everything is basically turned off on my end, wifi never sleeps, screen all the way down which alittle advise is non-viewable in the sun which i found out today, no live wallpaper (which i dont believe drains much of anything) and thats it .. text alittle, mess around with the scenes, do alot of browsing, occasionally use goggles, or layers, or the cams but nothing major ...

But as part of the RS deal i ended up getting the car charger and that will come in handy at times (something i desperately needed with the Pre) which when in roaming sucked down juice by the boat loads and barely lasted the day, usually by 5pm it was dead

Yeah looks like that person got 5 hours of CONTINUOUS use. I have used my phone MODERATELY today and we are currently at exactly 6 hours. Battery has 17% left. It is nice to see the lower percentages lasting awhile instead of just dying quickly.

Okay, so for the day I'm at 6+ hours since my last charge and the battery is at 50%! Again I say "Battery issues my @ss!" lol

And turning of the background data stops all the apps "well most of them" from dialing home all the time draining your battery. I haven't found a widget to control this yet "a single widget", but I don't mind going into settings and turning it on when I need to download something from the market. Otherwise I just manually sync the apps that I want.

I've done some web surfing, downloading a 3meg pdf, email, games, a movie "I am Legend", a little 4g surfing "no wifi today", and I didn't really use the phone "which is normal for me", oh and I did watch some streaming TV and a PodCast.

7 hours after unplugged 12% left and I'm putting it back on the charger. I would consider my use today to be light to moderate. Hoping for a little more out of it in the future. Might tweak some of the settings (such as live wallpaper and syncing less)

Fully charged at 12:30pm today when I put it in my pocket. Majority of the time was standby, but I used the web a bit, sent a couple of text messages, let a friend handle it for a while to show it off, and participated in a 90 minute conference call on speakerphone, and as of 8:30pm, I am at 40%. This is with 4G, Wifi, GPS, and BT turned off.

Most of that drain probably came from the conference call. Not bad.

I've had absolutely zero issues with my battery life, even with heavy usage. I have no idea where some if these reviewers were getting this four hour nonsense from. I've been using mine heavily for the past 10 hours and my battery is at 53%. What a load of bullshit. My 3G only lasted five hours though ;)

HEAVY use and only at 53% after 10 hours? what are your settings? I find that hard to believe considering I used mine light to moderate today and it only got 7 hours. My settings could just be draining everything.

Tips?

I should say intermittent heavy usage. I basically turned off all syncing that I'm not using like face book and twitter and news feeds. I keep the screen on a low setting (not lowest) and I keep gps off unless I'm using it. After playing a couple 3d games for awhile my battery is closer to 40% . Regardless, the four hour thing is just nonsense.

Ran a marathon with WiFi and gps on the whole time, made 3 calls, voice posted to twitter, took pictures, a short video and still had 75% battery after 5 hours.

I removed the phone from the charger at 6:45 this morning, Used telenav for 30 minutes driving to get car serviced, watched tv and surfed web for 45 minutes waiting. Sister in law played be jeweled knock off for 45 minutes waiting for me to fix her computer. By 10:30 the battery was down to 65 percent. Texted, emailed and surfed until 15 minutes ago, 9:30pm when I had 15 percent left. Yesterday I only got 7 hours out of it on the charge it had after I picked it up at Radio Shack, but I hammered it. No 4G here in Iowa and Wifi was off. Tomorrow I will try it with Background Data turned off.

Im pretty sure it must be the wifi that I have that is letting my battery last so long. I guess use it whenever you can because it makes a huge difference.

I've had no battery issues. Actually it was hard to run mine all the way down. I did it to "exercise" the battery and I had to keep playing videos before it finally pooped out on me.

Are you guys using Twitter apps or no? I think that might be my biggest drawback. I get about 8-10 hours with GPS/WiFi/4G off, Twitter app set to every 10 minutes, push Gmail, I had push Exchange but changed it to every 15 or 30 minutes (I forgot, it's charging now), I think FB is in background for every hour.

I wish I could go a whole day and still achieve 50%, I miss Blackberry battery life.
