Battery Issues

So I just bought this battery off Amazon.com from this company called "Accessory One". It says it's for the G2, but when I got the thing it was like half the size of the battery compartment, yet twice the thickness, so it wouldn't fit. Plus, some of the words on the battery and on the back of the package were misspelled.

I took a side-by-side picture of the battery I bought in comparison to the factory battery.
From left to right: The back of the phone with battery compartment open, the phone's back cover, the original factory battery, the new battery I just bought, and some kind of plastic back cover (which doesn't fit my phone either).

Clearly, the battery has no chance of ever fitting into my phone. Has anybody else bought this battery and stumbled upon this?

You bought a battery meant for the HTC Hero, released in 2009 and marketed as the "G2" in some European territories. I know, the naming sucks.

The real G2 (aka Desire Z aka HTC Vision) has the same battery as the EVO, the Incredible, the Eris, and a few other 2010 HTC phones. The G2's battery is actually technically a hair thinner than those other batteries, but there are wide reports of cross-compatibility. If you buy a battery meant for any of those phones, it ought to work in your G2. If you buy an extended life battery (i.e. 1800mAh or so), you might have to cram it a little to make it fit, but it should still work.

You mean the Evo battery works with the G2? I JUST saw that an Evo extended battery at my local Fry's yesterday, but I didn't get it because the package didn't say it was for my phone.

It does, but not officially. You kinda have to cram it in there, but it reportedly fits and does significantly increase your battery life.

Don't feel bad, I just made the same mistake buying what I thought was a "micro USB" cable for a G2, but it really turned out to be a "mini USB" meant for the Magic G2/Hero.
