What's your software version? The initial release by HTC had battery issues according to some reviews but was patched in an OTA update. It could be you have the older version?
It might have a bigger battery but it also has a bigger screen and seeing as the screens are what uses the most battery, I wouldn't be surprised if you ended up with the same problem.
Have a look at the Galaxy Note section and see if anyone is posting about battery stat's and usage. If it seems to be better, than it may be worth swapping to to the Note.

That's a branded software version.

Based on the experience with my Desire, I just installed a switch widget and make sure that 3G, GPS, and Wifi, are all off unless I need them. This makes a huge difference to battery life. The phone will go for around a week without these on. I also found that 30% brightness for the screen was about right unless it was in bright sunshine outside or in the car for satnav.

make sure your car charger puts out the same as a wall charger; most are left unbridged to prevent this (and will show up under settings as "usb" for charging mode). With a little dab of solder and a cheap charger this is easily fixed; check out this post:

there is even a customer video on Amazon that shows how to do this...
The point is that for my usage involving email and web through the working day the HTC One X is as good or better then my HTC Desire HD.
Your mobile usage may be different to mine but what phone allows the screen to be constantly on for hours without charging - none.

Ahhh... but it does. 5 and half hours on screen time today. I set it to never turn off this afternoon, battery hardly went down.
It's not the screen causing the drain regardless of what the stats say , there is something connected to the screen causing it. Perhaps the GPU element of the Tegra.
well i am having either a massive battery "settling in" problem or have a faulty battery on my One X
had it since last night. charged it till green light came on and it would not then turn on at all when button depressed. left it on charge for rest of night and then had it on from 7.50am till about 12:30, by 1.30 at the supermarket it had shut itself down. i then put it back on charge. that is not even the worry though!
the worrying problem is this. my phone went from reporting being fully charged at 4.30pm to shutting itself off due to no battery left in about 2 hours!!!
do you want to know what my usage was in that 2 hours. i received a text message and replied to it, aside from that it was on standby! no wi fi no no GPS, auto brightness off and have mine lowered from being a previous desire owner. phone is currently on overnight charge to see what joy tomorrow brings

Something is definitely going on with your phone, does it get hot (like the processor is running incessantly? Could you post a screenshot (hold both power and volume down at the same time) of your battery usage page (Settings -> Battery)?
I hate to say it but it sounds like an exchange is your best option (unless there is a quick fix or known bug we can glean for your battery info- but even this isn't too likely as none of the bugs and issues I know of talk about depletion this quickly)...
have not worked out resizing image to assist last poster so just put readings at foot of this message.
in response basically the screen usage is about 80% even though i have it on very little backlight whatsoever.

Thanks for posting values! Okay, the problem is the screen as the other numbers are relatively in line (as the screen % rises the other value %'s must drop, so that is why some things seem low)...
There aren't really many things (that I know of) that feed into this number, so it sounds like it may be a hardware fault. If it were simply a bad battery I would think that your usage would display the same ratios as other phones, just your battery life would be much reduced. BEcause your screen statistic is so high, I think there is a fault or short somewhere in the screen that is causing it to draw power even when it shouldn't (or use a lot more power when it does need to). If you are able to swap it out, I would do so... it is a pain starting over with a new device, but it does happen that some things just miss the eyes in the Quality Assurance lines at the factories...

I have noticed that the battery does drain in strange amounts.
I have my wifi & gps on constantly, my phone went for 2 days 5 hours & i received a text at which point the phone was at 34% battery.
The phone was put back in stand by & the phone went totally flat in the next 4 hours, this i find strange as over night in stand by it only uses 1 - 2%.
There is obviously a bug in the way the phone reports its battery state, by my reasoning this must be some 10 - 15% lower than what it is reporting.

Some of the older HTC phones did not charge all the way when the battery showed 100%. You needed to bump charge it. To bump charge a device, turn it off completely, and plug it into a charger. Wait until the indicator light shows a full charge (on the Droid Incredible, for example, the charging LED changes from amber to green) but do not yet turn the device back on. Instead, disconnect and immediately reconnect the power cord.

Some of the issues stated on here simply seem like a faulty battery or device.
I got the phone this past Friday and have been averaging 22 to 24 hours on a single charge. I've been trying to "train" the battery or w/e the method is called in waiting until the device is below 10% then giving a full charge to 100% and leaving it plugged in for a bit after its fully charged.
My normal day consists of light text messaging, checking facebook, web browsing and watching video clips here and there. I'm usually on wifi for 8 hours at work and on 4G when I'm at home.
I think the battery life is great considering the processor and radio this phone works off. I'm very pleased to say the least. I love the lack off battery drain during stand bye times, when I'm sleeping. The Skyrocket I came from drained like crazy overnight.

I am using my phone for the first battery cycle and I expect it to get better but its kind of bad right now. I let the original battery juice that the phone came with yesterday run out completely to the point where the phone shut off. Then I plugged it into my wall charger and let it charge completely overnight(which I do with every phone when I go to sleep).
Pulled it off the charger at 8:20am and as of right now, Im down to 37%. I am on the company Wifi all day, bluetooth is off, GPS is on. I get both work and Gmail emails to the device all day. Lots of text/KIK messages. Twitter updates every 10 mins.
Normally my Skyrocket would give me about 50% after 12 hours which was fine because I would get home at that point. I would be down to 20% typically by the time I went to sleep just to start the cycle over again.
My issue is that its saying the screen is using 67% and the next thing using the most is Wifi at 7% which to me is nothing.
I keep the phone in my pocket, have the screen set to "auto" brightness and 30 second timeout(unless I click the power button sooner).
Im hoping this screen gets tamed down a bit over time. I cant have my phone die before I even leave work at night.
UPDATE: When I finally got home from work around 8:30 I was only down to 30%. So from the time I wrote this post originally to 2.5 hours later I only lost 7%. Ended up taking a phone call at 9 and was on it for about 26 minutes. Then on another call from 10-11. It wasnt until around 10:45 I got the blinky on the screen telling me to plug in the charger because I was at 13%.
Id have to say even though that was my first full day, Im very happy with the outcome. If the battery life stays like that Ill be just fine.

I pulled mine off the charger at 6:30am, and after a day of heavy use at work (showing it off to coworkers, playing with it far more than I should have on a workday, etc.) It was down to about 37% at 4:30pm.
It was on wifi for about 80% of that time, and on LTE for the rest of the time. My usage was mostly web browsing, e-mail, and social networking apps, with about 10 minutes of watching video and a couple dozen camera shots to show off burst mode, and a little bit of taking videos. My screen (also on Auto) accounts for 57% of the battery usage.
I also have not yet done a full discharge/recharge.
My last couple phones before this (a Rezound and a Thunderbolt) would have been pretty much dead with the same level of activity, so I'm quite pleased with my battery life since it gets me through a work day of heavy usage without needing to charge, and still has a comfortable margin at the end.

Does the phone/software read the battery level correctly? Went to bed last night, about 11pm, with the battery at 92%. Got up at 8am and it was showing 89%. 10 mins checking my emails, reading a few articles on Currents and it was on 87%. Fair enough I suppose.

Standby times seem brilliant in terms of little drainage, my Desire, if left on standby, would drop 7-10% if left overnight yet the One X seems to hold charge well.

Battery level is pretty much a best guess and a lot of the time, they base the battery level on current usage. I've noticed similar things to you, although not as extreme. I'll hammer it for 10-15 minutes and lose 2-3%, then leave it for a minute and in that minute of doing nothing, I'll have lost the same again.
Standby time is excellent though, agreed.
gwlaw99, HTC kernels are coded to report 100% battery at circa 90% I believe, it's supposed to prevent overcharging and lengthen the lifespan of the battery. On my DHD, I'd an SBC kernel which overcame this.
If you want to charge it fully, you can leave it on charge for an hour or so after it says charging is completed and it will charge to full capacity. Alternatively, install Current Widget and leave your phone on charge till the widget reads 0mAh.
