Battery Life Experience

okay so I ran the phone for about 31 hours with average use very happy with that directly after the update, seem to have change something with the update, however on the next charge cycle it started dropping rapidly again even on standby same location same data connections, so I decided to fully recharge at about 90 percent when I reached 100 % I unplugged it to try to monitor what was draining the battery but I noticed that the battery was not dropping off at all, is there something to recharging back up to 100 after drops off a few percent. not sure how these charging cycles work on these Android systems?

With the M7, there is no way I could get past 19 hours with usage. I'm big on texting and surfing the net with my phone. This is ridiculous battery life in the M8. WTH HTC, can't you do anything WRONG!...LOL

Earlier I was unplugged and took a screen shot of my battery status. I then plugged it into a 2.1 amp charger I have (unbelievably fast btw) and noticed battery status after 12 minutes of charging. The "on battery" time did not change ) , but when I disconnected the battery timer continued ticking away like I had never been charging it. Tried it again and after 20 minutes I got the same behavior… Until I left it plugged in for over 30 minutes the “on battery” timer finally reset… Hmmm… Another bug?

With this I could easily get a fake 40 hours out of this phone lol.

I just switched over on the 11th from an LG G2, which has been praised constantly for battery life. I turned power saver on, but turned the "display" and "vibration" options off. Then I downloaded LUX and set that to auto, -20. The battery life on my One M8 is now better than my G2 ever was.

I'm getting some decent on screen times with my HTC One M8, but nothing to write home about. I was wondering, does anyone else notice that the kernal in GSAM is taking up the most power? When I click on kernal it just gives me a big list of processes that it could be. Is there anyway to get exactly which processes are using so much of the power? I'll post screen shots about what I'm talking about soon as I take one. I forgot to actually take the screen shot last time.

We know what you are saying. The update should have slowed the kernel down more. Either use power saver mode or extreme power saver mode to slow down your processor. You have to learn to harness the power of the phone. The phone won't do it for you unless it's just sitting there. I find the idle time to be sufficient when I'm not at work and I have a cell phone signal.

If I'm at work, I throw my phone into extreme power saver because I'm only texting at work. When I get home, I take it off because I have WiFi at home. I would write home to my mom about the battery life on this phone.

As I stated in a previous thread unlocked/developer edition for me doesn't have extreme power save mode and also I was asking how to find out what exact process is using what percent of battery and not just the general kernel.

im really impressed with the standby battery life especially - it hardly seems to use any juice if you dont touch it! amazing - and thats without any power save settings enabled i think

Has anyone gotten 35 hours of moderate use? I get 1 to 2 days off a charge on my note 3 with a good amount of use including a lot of facebook and games. Considering the new m8 for an upgrade but am afraid as it's not even possible to get a back up battery or extended.

Define moderate use. Everyone's version of that is different

The only way you would get 35 hours with what I consider moderate use, is if you used the power savings mode, and then switched to extreme power savings mode around 20%.

As the previous poster stated "moderate" is a flexible term that is defined by the user. You must give us an idea of what you consider is moderate for an accurate answer.

The device will eventually have an extended battery option just like the M7 did. Here is a link to the M7 version so you have an idea of what it will look like.

Basically. For me, the phones battery is definitely strong enough to get you through the day without you feeling like you need to scramble for a charger. Even so, when I go to sleep at night, I plug and charge my phone. I even did that when I had the note 3 in spite of the juice that battery had. The M8 phone is conditioned to manage and make the best use of the battery to last as long as it can possibly do so.

I'm happy so far with the battery. Moderate to light use today. Actually I think the battery is even better today after the update.

My experience with the M8's battery has been fantastic, and it beats the pants off of my GS3. My habits haven't changed between the two phones, and when I go to bed my phone's battery has been between 75-85% full compared to my GS3's 20-30%.

Agree! Battery is a nice change from my s3 as well. I don't even charge this phone at work where as every chance I'd get I would plug in my s3. Unplug my phone at 630 and by the time I get to bed the phone is still above 40%.

I've noticed you don't need your phone in power saver mode if you aren't using it. The standby time is terrific.

Still haven't tried the power saver setting, and I'm getting great battery life. Almost got a full 48 hours when I forced myself to let the battery drain down. I had to force myself because old habits die hard. :p

I'm working in an LTE service area, and it's doing a great job. Really happy with the kernel work HTC put into this phone! :)

So far so good as far as battery is concerned. I moved up from the One S which I have had for some time. The battery drain on that phone was terrible since it was so old so the difference is like night and day

my battery seems to be pretty good in most areas, I have slow drain most of the day.

but I've noticed a lot more battery drain when I've used the phone to playback podcasts via the phone's speakers. I always use this when I exercise and get ready for work in the morning and some various other times during the day. With previous phones (Galaxy Nexus, Note 2, G2) I've had minimal battery drain doing this. Now with the M8 I've having much bigger battery loss, on the 10-15%/hr used level.

The phone's screen is off during playback, I'm only playing back already downloaded episodes and not streaming.

Is this abnormal or was I just really lucky with my previous phones?
