Help Battery life on dormant phone

stanan

Newbie
I have an inactive LG Volt, previously used on Virgin Mobile. Sync and wi-fi are off and it is in airplane mode. The battery still drops about 30% per day. The battery stats show the top 2 as Android OS at 76% and Android System at 7%.

Shouldn't my dormant phone have a longer battery life? I assumed with everything turned off that the battery would last much longer. Are there more adjustments I can make?

My plan was to eventually swap it to my Ringplus account and only use it occasionally. I had hoped I would only have to charge it about once a week.

If you are rooted you can use BetterBatteryStats (there's a free version on XDA) to see I'm more detail what's using the battery. By having airplane mode on, you're preventing anything from using data, but apps on the phone will still be doing stuff, including trying to get online. With data blocked, this may actually result in more activity as apps keep retrying. Apps like Greenify (root) and BatteryGuru (no root) can help manage this activity.

(Get the one that's in the post... The newer version has issues on our phone, likely why it's incompatible in the store)

Thanks bg4m3r. I am not rooted. I followed your link and installed BatteryGuru 3.0. I also uninstalled some apps not needed for a back-up phone. I fully charged the phone. It has been off the charger for 15 hours and is at 98%. This is a big improvement. I will continue to monitor. Thanks again for your suggestion.

Don't use the 3.0 version. There is something wonky with the Wi-Fi control in it and it can't be disabled. Use the version that is actually downloadable from the post itself. Sorry, I should've been more specific.

Many of the un-uninstallable system apps can be disabled from the settings app menu as well.

Being not rooted you can still use Greenify, but you will have to manually hibernate the apps. Greenify will explain it if you give it a try, but it may not be worth the hassle. Sounds like things are under control.
