Battery life on new phone

Is it normal to have to charge this baby daily when I'm not even on it that much? All my settings are set to save on battery too. Wonder if should bring it in. About a week old.

If you are actually using your phone it is common to charge it more than once a day. It wastes a lot of power through the screen so there isn't much you can do about that one. If you do not use it too much and you are on 4.0.4 or ICS you should try jellybean by rooting and flashing cm10.

Hi didi :hello: Even if you are not on it much, it kind of depends on what you're doing when you are on it. I hardly use mine at all when at work. When I get home after about 9 hours, I usually have around 75% charge left on it. If I'm surfing a lot or watching videos I can easily use 10-20% an hour.

Which android version are you using? ICS 4.0.4 seems to have a little better battery life. Also, take a look at this thread. Its tips for non-rooted phones but still applies even if your rooted.

How do I know which version it is? What does non-rooted mean? I did update the camera. It was horrendous. Clarity just terrible.

You can look in settings > about phone, where it says Android Version.

Rooting would be like the steps in this guide. Installing another recovery and superuser. If you haven't done that, then you aren't rooted.

Says 4.0.4
Is it necessary to get rooted right away? Or only if you have an issue?

No, rooting is not necessary. Rooting just gives you more control over what you can do. Like having administrator rights on your computer. If you're rooted, you can do things like backup your apps with its data and delete the bloatware T-Mobile puts on your phone. Rooting will also, technically, void your warranty. Although it is easy to unroot and return your phone to stock normal.

Will wait to root then but man, I just charged the phone, keep it in suspend mode, sent maybe 4 texts, did nothing else and already back down to 89%. It's bull sh**. Ugh.
