Help Battery life post TMo OTA update(recent)

I noticed that my battery seemed to drain faster also post update. Even idling on standby it was dropping between 10-20% in 8 hours with no usage.

I just went into settings and selected 2G only and now it drops 3-7% during the same 8 hours (overnight). I also notice an improvement during my workday. If I need Web access for maps or downloads I just switch to auto 3G/2G and I'm good. I used Anycut (free app) to make a shortcut on my homescreen to quickly access the settings.

How did you make a shortcut? I'm not finding anything appropriate under Activities, and there's no help file for "make your own."
Any tips? thx

Under "Activities" use "Network" this will give you a shortcut. That will get you to "Network Mode."

So what is TMobile's policy on exchange or cancellation of service? I am 2 mos into my contract and I am terribly disappointed with my equipment, which would be my Samsung Vibrant. This battery drain issue is bogging my phone down and the battery drains without any use just on idle overnight. I charge the phone in the evening and when I wake up in the morning, my battery is down to 10% or less and I get a battery warning.

I've had it with this useless piece of garbage which has nothing but problems and the OTA update they sent out just made it worse rendering the handset even more useless.

Oh, and I bought the phone from Cellulardeals so wondering if I went to a TMo store, they would create issues to exchange it or give me another phone. Anyone else has any experience dealing with TMo with regards to unsatisaction of handset and usability, feel free to point me in the right direction.

my battery is also terrible after the update. it's really pissing me off. im tempted to call and complain to tmo. the thought of wishing i had an iphone actually crossed my mind as well.

prior to the update i'd go to sleep and over 7 hours maybe lose 4-6%. now i lose 30%!!!!! i mean wtf.

and this stupid media hub. why the F is it running. between this and samsungs slow updates i'm seriously pissed.

My battery life has gotten beyond ridiculous. It is not even holding charge for 12-15 hrs with little or no use. Vibrant is a vibrant piece of trash in blue, red and yellow.

This phone is a joke and a sad excuse for a handset. So much for TMo testing and retesting all their updates before releasing them.

So how do I go about exchanging or getting another phone from TMo?

as i just posted in another thread:

i gave in and factory restored.

unplugged around 4:30pm, went to gym and listened to pandora for about 2 hours.

3-1/2 hours since unplug and i'm sitting at 87%.

tbh this appears better than before the update (knock knock!). small sample size tho.. i will keep my fingers crossed.

will give an update tomorrow morning.

Yes, Startup Auditor.

Not for nuthin', but I don't use any type of startup editor. After reading this thread, I powered down my phone, pulled the battery, then re-booted. Media hub nor any other app is shown as open or running in Task Manager. This is on a non-rooted, bone stock phone that has the OTA. I haven't noticed any change in battery usage whatsoever.

I happily can say that my battery situation has improved dramatically after doing a factory restore. after sleeping for 7 hours, my batter drained ONLY 1%!

Despite some saying not to use juicedefender, i've had good experiences with the program and I did have it running last night.

Regarding mediahub, i have not accepted the t&c's and don't plan to. However download manager (media hub process) is running in my running services.

Anyway, i'm happy.

I just had a similar experience and I'm beyond happy with my battery performance post update. http://androidforums.com/samsung-vi...post-update-strange-but-true.html#post1776361

hi all. this has been a pretty helpful thread. here's what i've experienced. i bought a vibrant about 3 months ago, i have pretty active email accounts (3), but i don't actually talk on the phone that much. email was incredibly slow (not a connection issue, this was all software...was randomly fast intermittently in between being unbearably slow to open an email, and had nothing to do w/size of the email or its attachments), and battery life was horrendous. i did a factory reset per their "tech support" and it totally wiped out the slow email software problem. however, the battery life issue remains. it's intermittent as well. roughly every other day the battery drains completely by midday (i unplug around 6am after all night charging, so that means 5-6 hours to dead), often without a single call or very much use of any kind. i've noticed, as others have as well, the phone tends to run hot to the touch at these times. most alarming, given what i'm reading as far as resolution on this board, it's *still happening* after the reset. any thoughts on how to end this nonsense? i have the same issue as others and use advanced task killer to kill the unnecessary apps constantly. but it really does suck. otherwise, the phone is fine. thanks in advance, hellhed.

You didn't mention whether or not you have tried switching to GSM only. This is can lead to huge savings in battery life if you are subject to a weak or intermittent 3G signal.
