Help Battery Life Questions

i've had more problems with GPS than 3g. GPS used 6% of my battery in 22 minutes at one point.
It all depends on how strong your 3G signal is. I recently had to hang out in a hospital waiting room with very poor cell reception (0-1 bars). 3G was nominally available (3G icon instead of 1x) and I did get data (albeit slower than usual), but the battery drained from 80% to almost empty within 2 hours while I was reading email and browsing the web. In an area with reasonably reception, I can browse the web and do email all day and night, without draining the battery.

GPS always drains the battery pretty fast.

I've had similar experiences. I find that the OV is somewhat susceptible to interference. When I place my phone near the monitor (within a feet) while I'm working, the 3G connection would occasionally disconnect and/or even lockup requiring a manual switching the data OFF and then back ON. Now, I usually place the phone about 3 feet away from other electrical equipment, and my 3G connection is solid and as you've noted the battery performance has also improved quite noticeably.

its definitely the 3g. I turned mine off yesterday and i still haven't had to charge!!! i've been at home for most of the time so i've just turned on my wifi. amazing the battery used by 3g!!

If u have a browser running in the background it uses more CPU than most Widgets. More CPU=more battery usage. Here's a sample of which apps is currently using my phone's CPU:
