Help battery life since 4.4.2 update

I have been playing with mine this afternoon and the battery drain seems constant even if it just sits. I literally can see the % meter run down when I am using it.

Used to be I could use the hell out of it and it would easily last all day.

I am really surprised this seems to be just me for the most part.

It isn't just you. I have the same problem. The image I posted earlier in this thread was after updating to 4.4. Many people insist that a factory reset after updating solves the problem. So I did just that a few days ago. Here's my phone after 13 hours unplugged. Clearly something is still wrong...

Did the factory reset it did not help but was a huge pain in the button have to rebuild my phone's screens the way I want them.

I hope that they can patch a fix quickly.

Both my husband and my phone after the update battery life sucks. I factory reset them both and still the battery life sucks. Glad I got us portable chargers so he can take his to work.

My battery life has been great once the factory data reset was done. Like many others my phone was all but bricked after the update so I needed to start from scratch. It took me a few days to rebuild and while that sucked it did allow me to prune about a hundred apps that I never used as well as avoid some issues and quirks I had in the previous set up.

But once I was back up to full speed my battery life is at least as good, if not a little better than before. One reason is I dropped the app Tasker and replaced it with Llama for automated phone configuration like turning on and off Wi-Fi and managing volumes. Llama does use GPS so that cuts down on battery. I find that making sure your Wi-Fi is off in areas you are not using it saves battery as well.

I'm going to wait 12 hours and take a snap shot of my battery usage screen to compare with the one a few posts up. Maybe a few others can do this just for comparison? Take a screen capture of your battery screen between 12 and 13 hours and post it to compare. Stang70's does seem to be a lot of drain especially for such little screen time. Screen time is always my number one drain.

It also might be useful to post who your carrier is since not everyone does it in their signatures. It would be good to know if the battery problem is common to only certain carriers.

I'm on Verizon.

My battery life is terrible since I updated my phone!!!! This is absolutely annoying. I use to go 10-12 hrs with out charging and since I'm lucky to get 5-6 hrs!

Is anyone on here having the same problem? Is there anything I can do? I turn everything off and only have my screen set at around 30%.

Matt

I've had no problems with the new update. To improve your battery life, you should try the following.

1. Power saving mode.
Settings> general> power saving mode
I usually check the last 2.

2. Automatic brightness.
Swipe down your notification bar and set the brightness at its lowest. Then check the auto box right beside it.
You can also do this through settings> device> display> brightness.

This had and still do make my battery life last for 10-15 hours. I use my phone all day everyday, mainly for data usage for (mostly streaming videos). Also, I sometimes watch 1-3 movies that are 2 hours long and still have plenty of battery. I hope this helps!

Okay, so I did the screen capture of the battery usage at approximately the same time as Stang70 above for comparison. I will post that in a moment. But I used the phone all day with a lot of texting, Facebooking, general usage and calls - way more screen time than I usually do. At the end of the day I still had 38% battery. My screen time was the largest use of battery consumption, which is what is usually the case.

For the people having bad battery drain, are you using the little included App Manager widget? It's that little green circle with the number on it that tells you how many apps are still running in the background. I have found it invaluable at helping me increase battery life by letting me know of any app that remains running and using CPU in the background. You would be amazed at just how many apps are left running and using CPU (and thus draining battery) even though you are no longer using the app or even using the phone at all.

I actually wrote thread all about this neat little widget a while back and it can be seen here:

App Manager Widget saves battery!

I would ask those having bad battery life to read this thread and try this little app. Looking at Stang70's battery usage tells me something is running in the background and draining your battery. This app might help you.

Other things I do to increase battery life are things like:

Reboot daily, in the morning while still on the charger
Run screen below 50% (note: the auto brightness setting is NOT the best for battery life!)
Turn off Wi-Fi when not using one as if you leave it on and there are Wi-Fi's around that you don't connect to the phone will constantly be in contact with it.

Next up is my battery stats.

If you're having bad battery life, try this and see if it works.

1. Go into settings
2. Go into Application Manager
3. Scroll over to All
4. Select Lookout
5. Turn off Lookout

This has brought my battery life back to where it was pre-update.

Hmm don't know what's the problem i was expecting battery to be better on note 3 its crap compared to note 2 where i easily get around 3 days where as note 3 i barely get a day :( ( didn't upgrade anything)

If Lookout is your problem try uninstalling and then reinstalling just that app. This is a very widely used security app that you don't wanted to turn off. Also I don't see other reports of it being a battery drain.

Am terribly having the same problem after Kitkat 4.4.2 upgrade, none of the above suggested solution is working for me, from Reset! to putting off applications, Am very sick and regret the update. Please guys bail me out before my head blows off!
