Help Battery Life/Yahoo Email

Hi,
First time Android user. Got my phone Monday, fully charged it and set up two of my email accounts. When I got to my Yahoo email...the setting would not take. I'd rather not download any app for it so can anyone offer any guidance on why basic Yahoo email account setting don't take?

The battery seems to drain very quickly. Yesterday I got to work with it fully charged at 8AM and by noon it was dead. Any thoughts on this? I'm coming from a Blackberry where you had to actually "Close" programs or it would affect battery life. I see no "close" option for any of the programs I've been in so far. Am I missing them? Another thought is that my building has horrible reception. Could it be that its trying to get a signal (it says 4G if I put the phone in certain spots) and that is killing the battery??

I went back in and just typed my email and password for my Yahoo email for the set-up and it worked...sort of. The page where the account should be showing up is blanking with the swirling "thinking" circle in the upper right hand corner as if its trying to bring up the account. It's been doing that for an hour.

I decided to do a factory reset and drain the battery all the way down. I noticed that "cell standby" accounts for most of my battery usage. Is that the normal reason for drainage?

Hi there,

OK being a first time android user, it happen to me too, is all because of sync settings.
Do you use Facebook or twitter, you need to go into the apparently, go into setting and change how often you want the apparently to sync for background updating.
The same goes with email and Gmail. For the stock email, you do the same by going into the apparently, settings and update intervals. With Gmail, you go to the phone settings, accounts and sync, then you can choose if you want your Gmail to sync of not,same with contacts and calendar.
Also go to display and turn down the brightness, don't use auto-brightnes, it uses more battery.
Any other app that syncs, unless you need it, turn them off.

What is meant by "apparently". The "sync" makes whatever you do on your phone the same as online, i.e. if I delete an email on my phone it disappers online? Is that what the sync does?

Also...I noticed this morning that on my browser, when I click on a picture, it downloads it to my gallery instead of just opening it. Is there a setting someplace to just have it open and not download?

Sorry I meant to type, APP, I was typing on my phone and it corrected its self.
The sync is how often the app checks for new emails etc, you can set up oh often it checks it, every 30 min, every hour, etc, like in the stock email app. The Gmail app uses push notifications, so you only get notified only when you get email (the official facebook and twitter app also use push notifications)
As for the picture downloading, just touching the picture shouldn't download it. If you press and hold, a menu should pop up and give you the option to download.
