Battery Life

after completely draining the battery last night, my phone has done much better with battery life today. its been unplugged since 2 PM and now its 4 AM and im at 4% battery life. ive used it pretty extensively today so im impressed with how much it improved in the span of just a day.

If you want more battery, turn off the sync feature unless you really need it. On the iPhone, the similar feature (Notifications) will drain your battery like mad.

So I definitely have worked out most of my battery issues.

Juice Defender
Advanced Task Killer (with it's autokill feature)

Those two apps kick major ass in bettering battery life.

But holy shit, someone before me was discussing the horrible affect on the battery that voice calls have.
Here's my info right now:
Phone unplugged since 6:48 AM (it's currently 1:37pm)
Phone at 70% battery
41% - Voice Calls (17 minutes)
35% - Display
10% - Cell Standby
6% - Phone Idle
4% - Android System
2% - Android OS

I'm not sure what the idle is, because I haven't used it much this morning? But 41% of the battery used on 17 minutes of voice calls! Holy shit!

But 41% of the battery used on 17 minutes of voice calls!
Actually, 41% of 30% (assuming it was at 100% when you pulled it off the charger) so approximately 12.3% of a full battery for 17 minutes. Which would equate to a total talk time of 138 minutes per full charge, which is definitely still really, really horrible.

I turned off the sync feature a little bit ago and I can already tell that this is saving the battery life.. I don't use the feature anyhow, so I'm glad someone posted about this.

So I went into the AT&T store yesterday to complain about the battery life, and I showed them my battery graphs and the battery usage where AT&T Hotspots and AT&T Navigator are constantly sucking up the battery (not to mention leeching 2-5MB per day off my data plan). It starts every time the phone starts and there's no way to disable that.

Their answer was, "That's an AT&T feature, you can't turn it off. If you try to turn it off the phone won't work anymore."

I also said, where's this incredible standby and talk time, and the guy says "Those numbers are for cell standby without 3G." So I said, How do I turn off 3G? The guy says, "3G cannot be turned off on this phone."

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I also asked them about the GPS, the WIFI, and the insensitive "back" button. At this point the manager came over and he assured me that I was the only person he had ever heard of having any of those problems. I showed them the search results for "captivate gps problem" and the manager tried to deny that there was any problem and said "if there's anything wrong with this phone, it's news to me!". He encouraged me to keep the phone because there is nothing wrong with it, nope, nothing at all, I'm just using it wrong. Not the most helpful of AT&T stores.

I was screwing my graphs up because they show up as pictures in the gallery under cache and I thought they were errors lol. It's pretty cool being able to see your usage throughout the day. I can clearly see my lunchtime use, as well as the scanner I used after lunch to listen to the accident details that happened outside of work today. Then my after work use at my parents house, and the steady decline after I got home and played with some stuff. Everything else is a steady non-loss plot. I think this will also be great to prove that I'm not using my phone when I shouldn't be if anyone tries to accuse me at work.

To the people who are saving battery by turning the sync feature off, are you using the normal mail client instead? If so, do you set it to pull at a regular interval?
