Help Battery Life

I'm aware of shortish battery life when loads of apps are running but my problem is somewhat different. If I fully charge my HTC Desire HD in the evening and then power off, the next morning the battery is only 50% charged. I always thought that powering something off meant that it was not using any power. Am I missing something or have I got a duff battery? HTC have been less than helpful.

Hi arhill, could I just check, by "power off" do you mean long press on the button and then choose shutdown or just quick press (which only turns off the screen but leaves apps running / syncing data in the background).

If you are tuning it off (hold and select) then I would think the battery was duff. It will take a bit of power to turn the phone on but it shouldn't be any where near 50%..

You are correct in thinking that whilst the phone is off it won't be using any power (apart from a tiny amount of "leak" but that shouldn't really be noticable over night (apart from again if the battery is duff...)

Hi Staffsmatt, you're right in thinking I hold the power button down and select 'Power off'. As I suspected the battery would appear to be faulty. Thanks.

I would say it's most probably faulty, but it can be that some application is stopping the battery from sleeping properly, and so the battery drains over night.
