Battery Life

When on holiday I was down to just 70% after 48 hours. Only been used for a few texts and photos though. I guess it's the data usage that really hits the phone hard.

My battery life is great, as long as I'm not using it as a phone (voice calls).

My Nexus is on its way to HTC, I called them back and told them that I sent it in for the dust issue but that I had some more problems I was worried about, they said that no matter the reason I'm sending it in, that they will inspect every aspect of the phone including any power issues.

I hope they are being honest and not giving me the run-around. On any note, I've still got my fingers crossed, CROSSED, crossed.

lmao Yeah i cant get that movie out of my head.

i got mine back in about a week. took about a week for dust to get back in there. im gonna send it in again eventually. i think they know how to fix it but are just being lazy.... i hope.

there's an awesome Brightness Widget (by CurveFish I believe) in the market... much much better than the one on the power strip widget...

allows brightness selection from 0, 25, 50, 75 and 100.... and you know exactly which one you're one once selected... and also quick access to slider bar for fine tuning values...

I have been using Battery Alarm for 50p. Its easy to bring up and check the levels, but now I dont tend to bother as I know it will beep and notify me at 30% (something that I think should be part of Android, but hey).
 
Figured Id chime in here a bit.

Got my phone on Sat and have been playing with it ever since. First day battery life was abysmal, maybe 10 hours or so and it conked out. Probably all my setting it up and whatnot.

Second day was a bit better, still getting used to trying different settings and stuff.

Today has been the best so far, took it off at 9ish and now have 20% left. Did quite a bit of web surfing and a few long phone calls.

All that being said, Im not entirely happy with the battery life when considering my blackberry bold would be at maybe 70% left at the end of my days with the same amount of texting, surfing and calls. However, with my blackberry, I had my bluetooth on ALL the time regardless. I have yet to turn the N1 on yet and sync it to my car. Cant imagine how much a drain that will be.

i have one because someone bought it for me.

i also velcro my phone to my dashboard (lol) next to my steering wheel because i dont have a car dock.
i just keep it plugged in.

kind of the same way you would with a gps plugged in to the cigarette lighter.

Dude I so envy you! I'm curious about your battery use when on your network tho.
But still, I have mine fixed on 2G and screen brightness down, nearly everything off except wifi when available and I don't last a day. Altho I havn't tested extensively.. And I do fiddle with it alot, first android phone and niftiest toy I've had in ages :p

I'll do the recalibration drain-recharge cycle and try to last as long as I can with minimal use but I doubt I'll even come close to 3 days..
 
you know, the dude getting 3.5 days with his Nexus, but without a SIM, brings to light my suspicion... i think aside from the screen, what drains the battery so much on our Nexuses is the poor radio... as it hunts for signal (whether you know it or not), drains battery immensly...

i'm seriously starting to believe, from my own personal experiences, that the Nexus One's radio and RF performance are quite poor.... and i'm losing hope that any firmware or ROM update will fix it... That EVO 4G is looking better and better (although that might have its own battery life woes to consider, with all that's loaded on it, and the massive screen, yet only a 1500 mAh battery... will have to wait and see)... but i'm thinking at least WiMax would be better for signal than the 3G on my Nexus...

(ps, I'm using a 1600 mAh Seidio battery) - yes, it's better, but not by that much... but i'll take any advantage I can get for now... an extra hour before dying is still worthwhile...
 
mine lasts me all day, 3g on, wifi on, texting, gtalk, browsing, tweeting, phone, browsing, and i still have 20% at the end of the day. which for me is around 3am.
 
So yesterday was my best day yet since getting the phone on Saturday. I got an app that graphs my battery usage throughout the day and it seems to be charging faster and discharging slower.

I took my phone off the charger at 10am and when I put it on the charger last night at midnight I still had 40% left. I can deal with that.

i found that not using live wallpapers saves a lot of juice and allowing it to use "data roaming" it wasnt hunting for signal as much.

hmm the data roaming is interesting. but i am more interested in what app your using to monitor the battery

@ DigitalRonin: found the YouTube video on battery life very interesting and insightful to listen to and it allows me to better understand android, so thanks for sharing it :)
 
Anyone that's rooted with the Desire ROM - have you tried to disable the "always-on data" in the settings? wondering if that saves much battery... might affect the pushed data, but if it's a significant battery life improvement, could be worth it for some occasions (say on a trip, where you might not be close to a charger at all times, and wouldn't need the push notices nearly as much...)
 
you know, since installing the Desire ROM and checking things in the Battery Usage panel... it's a bit different than the stock Nexus battery usage panel in looks, but basically the same in operation... what's most odd is the display is by far no the most power intensive item on the list... even with heavy use... i can't see how it should be THAT different... but... it is...

this is just a normal day's usage... 7h 20m into it... about 33% left... did a lot of web browsing over lunch and included a 30min phone call... about 9%/hr... which is about right... with the stock Nexus ROM, the battery usage would ALWAYS report the display at the top of the list... making up like 40% of the total usage... now it's consistently at the bottom... i dunno what's up... but it does seem like the Desire ROM has different brightness settings... 100% with this ROM isn't nearly as blindingly bright as the stock ROM... just an observation... I could just be seeing things... all I know, this is now my usually battery usage percentages...

For those that have not watched the "Get a better battery life", would strongly recommend the SetCPU app (you need to be rooted though).

I am getting around 16-20 hours easily.
 
I just recently got my N1, and the battery life seems pretty decent so far. I'm getting 18-20 hours and have about 20% left before I charge it. I'm only on 2G/wifi all day and monitor is on full brightness with 4 hrs of using the phone and the rest standby. I'm very please with the battery life so far...though I haven't really talked on the phone for more than a couple of minutes, so will try to see how long i can talk before the phone dies. But I did buy an extra battery just in case from all of the posts I've read saying how bad the battery was for them XD And I'm having a blast getting to know my precious N1, lol.

I retract what I said earlier...battery life is horrible for calling...I talked on the phone today for 95 minutes and that used up 38% of the battery on 3G (forgot to turn it off it seems)...so if I just use my phone to talk, I can only talk for 250 minutes or roughly 4.2hours...that is only 60% of the 7 hours that Google said we would expect from our phone. There goes my 7hr calling test i planned with a friend of mine to see if it'll last that long *sigh* well...it's a good thing that I bought an extra battery pack ;)
