Battery life.

My work day consists of unplugging at 6.05am - I work in 2 offices, one which has absolutely no signal at all and one with a decent H. I've gotten accustomed to turning off data as necessary and find my battery lasts till I go to bed.

On the weekend (like today) I've played with it on my home wifi downloading apps, uploading stuff etc and its on 25% right now, I'm still finding stuff to play with.

In comparison to my old ip4 to which near the end I was seriously bored with, I hardly played with excepting the odd game of drawsomething and that Zynga scrabble thing and it lasted a weekend without charging till Sunday night.

So weekday every night and weekend, still every night (I guess that may change once I get used to it)

I think the NFC tags will help avoid a lot of the inconvenience of changing settings to save battery power as you could set one tag to do it all automatically.

Yes, the NFC tags will possibly be extremely useful - and I hope they're available to buy separately. I may get some other NFC tags (non-Sony) as there are sites selling generic ones.

They've been discounted since I last looked! But, without a release date I think I will go and buy the generic ones.

I'm very surprised Sony isn't bundling them with every Xperia S, as it's a flagship (for the foreseeable future). It would be a good selling point, as not a lot of ordinary punters will buy them later on as they'd not know what they are or why they'd want them (but would likely take an interest if they were in the box).

Yeah, I can imagine a lot of people who buy the phone after seeing it in a shop and not doing much research even know the NFCs exist.

I realise it's been a staggered launch across Europe and networks, but I would have thought Sony's own website would have started selling accessories rather than still displaying "coming soon" by now.

That's why I walked into a Sony store in London on Friday. They didn't even know if the phones had the tags, or know anything about accessories - except that they thought it may be a while before they got those, or cases.

As the phones also seem to come with one of two PSUs (only one being able to fast charge), it does seem odd that Sony has such a mix of packages.

My battery life is taking the mick. i'm seriously considering returning this phone as I rely on a longer battery life. with 3g and data off it still doesn't last that long.

What do you have screen brightness set at and do you have bravia engine running?

Mine is the same :( but I really don't want to return the phone as I love all the features. By no means am I a 'super user' and by just texting and a little browsing in the day, I always had about 70% battery life left in my Sony Ericsson Satio which was my previous phone. With this Xperia S, I have about 25% left at the end of the day. That's a big difference in performance!
I'm hoping it's just settings but as my vibrate function is set to 'never' why does it still vibrate when I get a text?? This surely doesn't help the battery but I can't blame that soley for the difference in battery life.

Yeah, I want to keep it as well as it's the best phone that I have had and very fast. My battery is actually pretty good now that I have noticed, I charged it fully and took hspa and data to off and it went from full to 89% after 10 hours with minimal use which is not bad.

I think it may be because you have to go into messaging then go into settings and untick the "notification vibration" box. If it doesn't work then it must be a bug.

Btw guys, Don't assume that the battery is fully charged when the green lights comes on because the green light comes on when the battery is charging above 90 percent.

have to say my battery life has improved now that it has had a few charges. at first it would barely last a day. now i can go 2 days without charging, unless i watch a film on it

10 days old and improving rapidly...

Now the novelty has worn off and I'm using it like I used to use my 3GS it's better than the 3GS was.

e.g. off charge at 9:15 am at 98%, now 1:30 pm it's at 92%, I have made 4 calls, sent 4 texts and read a couple of emails. Wifi is on, 3G is off, BT is off.

Looking good....

I'm not expecting a full 24 hours at all from the phone, but I'm still using it too much to even be able to give it a fair crack.

The problem is I like the phone so much, I'm not willing to just leave it and see how it fares. It's on 69% now (1335), having come off charge at 0930 and that's with about 45 minutes of calls. Not fantastic, but not too terrible either.

I've been reading about companies experimenting with combining NFC and wireless charging. It'd be cool if someone develops a charging mat that you can just put the Xperia on and the NFC charges it as the inaccessible battery prevents things like the Duracell wireless charging card being used.

I think one problem with inductive charging is that it's quite slow, but I am still surprised that nobody (besides HP) has ever properly integrated it and at least given users the option.

The fast charging of the Xperia S is great (if you have the right PSU) but for a lot of the time, it would be better to simply having it lying on my desk and trickle charging.

Ideally, I'd have both options available to me. In the car, it would be great to charge without having to actually plug anything in to the phone at all.

You can bet your life that when the next iPhone and iPad comes with inductive charging, suddenly everyone will do it.

Given the replaceable battery cover on the Xperia S (even if the battery is not accessible without a screwdriver), how hard would it have been for Sony to add some pins to access the battery and a different cover, as an accessory, to work with the Duracell/Powermat mats? Or even to make their own, and develop it to work with all the devices they released this year.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumoured to come with a built in inductive charger. Hopefully that'll give the technology the kick it needs to become the norm for charging.

Third charge for my phone and its at 12% right now after 23h 45mins use, approx 45 mins browsing , an hour and a half music, 25 mins video, all at 75% screen brightness with bravia engine on, hopefully can squeeze out a bit more with more charges and time.

When posting times, can we post the screen on time too that being a major drain.

1hour 54 min on screen

No screenshot sorry, but mine finally expired, well 1% battery left at one day 2 hours 33 mins. Not too bad for a 2nd charge I guess? ?
