Battery life.

a bit concerned about my battery-it has loasted longer in the last day but dropped 20 percent overnight without me even using it isnt that a bit excessive?

not sure wots eating it up i dont have data or auto sync on

Lithium batteries do not like the colder temperatures much, I set the power saver from midnight to 7am but still lost slightly over that 20% as well

I turn off data and wifi in work, and when i want to surf the net, do some light playing of games during work the odd text, a call, plus listening to music during lunch of the radio and i can get use 25% from 8.30 to 5.15.

Considering rooting this, does setcpu work ok with it?
Was rooting easy? More importantly, what about returning to stock?
Rooted my Desire, but this is all different.

Did your phone come with a power saving app installed? (I ask as I think it may have been added to my review model). This can disable the background data and auto syncing during set hours, or when the battery level falls.

Better than disabling everything (may as well turn the phone off then)

The only thing I've noticed with the app is that if you disable GPS, it requires you to confirm you accept the T&Cs when it's re-enabled.

In fact, I also found that sometimes it won't correctly turn the power saver off in the morning!

I wonder if there may be any battery improvements with future firmware (before or when we get ICS) as there could be a system task that is consuming too much power in standby?

tried a little experiment while off from work yesterday and deliberately didnt use my phone except for necessary use about 10 texts , 5 minutes of calls , 2 facebook refreshes and about 5 mins internet.

this morning the battery is at 10% and on power saver, and the standby with nominal use is at 1 day 13 hours 50 minutes and counting

Will it make 2 days on ??? only time will tell !!

Morning everyone, from my dabbles in another forum I came across this lot of info:

The problem is related to the phone switching between 2G and 3G too many times in idle mode, that's why a lot of people (myself included) are reporting that selecting either 2G or 3G (rather than automatic dual mode) fixes the problem. As mentioned by another member in this thread, it's possibly related to the com.sonyericsson.android.wakeup process, either way, it's a software bug and nothing to do with physical aspects of the phone.

To those who are having the battery issue, select either GSM or WCDMA instead of putting it in dual mode; this will increase the battery life by a huge amount. This is a temporary fix until Sony fix the 2G/3G switching BUG. To do this go to: Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Mobile Networks --> Network Mode. And select WCDMA (or GSM if you're happy with 2G)

Before my phone was draining 50% in 24 hours with no use at all; everything disabled, blank screen etc. Now in idle mode, after selecting WCDMA (3G), only 8% drained after 24 hours and the battery was still at 92%. That's a drastic improvement.

I've inadvertently been doing this while at work so have found my battery life to be pretty good, just go test this out for yourself and if there is improvement then you can bet that it will be resolved in some software update either officially or unofficially

There are a whole load of other what-ifs like O2 and something to do with fast dormancy feature, picasa auto updates and there seems to be a working solution for rooted Xperia's too.

Yes thanks jaseuk. I remember a similar thing. suggested with the Arc when it was first released as that was plagued by poor battery life till a firmware update helped.

it seemed to work switching to one of the modes less battery drain only peroblem now is every now and again loses service and i have to do a search for the network

When posting times, can we post the screen on time too that being a major drain.

1hour 54 min on screen

Yes, because this is what I need to know to compare. Thanks.

Just wondering Tyseyh, on say a 16 Hour day (without draining before then) whats the maximum screen on time you've had so far?

I've been looking around, even though its May 11th for my contract end...
