Battery life.

Not really sure, I ain't been looking and I've had it plugged into the pc more often to check picture quality on the telly box.
Atm its only been on 8 hours but I've taken 2 videos and about 50 pictures (went to the park) so it's not lasted long today.

Screen on 1 hour 32 minutes.
 
I've been planning on buying my new phone in April, but the battery issue is the only thing potentially putting me off the Xperia. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is now rumoured to be released this Friday so the decision might be a little harder.

I heard the Galaxy S3 is not due for release till April/May time. Either way, it might be worth you waiting that little bit longer.
 
Seems a bit short notice to round up the press to attend a launch event. Even Apple doesn't leave things that late.

I would have to assume Phones 4U has some other announcement, perhaps an existing handset in a new colour. :p
 
With the cinema like curtains it might be for the Galaxy Beam. Seems strange though. It usually warrants something big for full window advertising.
 
i cant see it being launched this week theres been nothing advertising it

but hey who knows

my battery seems a lot better now hoping an update wil fix the dual mode issue

Since I've locked the phone to WCDMA instead of 3G/2G, my battery has improved immeasurably! No doubt locking to GSM only would be even better, but I don't want GPRS data speeds!

I was still on 72% by the time I was heading home from a meeting in London, with the phone basically using next to no power in standby.

The problem is related to the phone switching between 2G and 3G too many times in idle mode, that's why a lot of people (myself included) are reporting that selecting either 2G or 3G (rather than automatic dual mode) fixes the problem. As mentioned by another member in this thread, it's possibly related to the com.sonyericsson.android.wakeup process, either way, it's a software bug and nothing to do with physical aspects of the phone.

To those who are having the battery issue, select either GSM or WCDMA instead of putting it in dual mode; this will increase the battery life by a huge amount. This is a temporary fix until Sony fix the 2G/3G switching BUG. To do this go to: Settings --> Wireless & Networks --> Mobile Networks --> Network Mode. And select WCDMA (or GSM if you're happy with 2G)

Before my phone was draining 50% in 24 hours with no use at all; everything disabled, blank screen etc. Now in idle mode, after selecting WCDMA (3G), only 8% drained after 24 hours and the battery was still at 92%. That's a drastic improvement.

I've inadvertently been doing this while at work so have found my battery life to be pretty good, just go test this out for yourself and if there is improvement then you can bet that it will be resolved in some software update either officially or unofficially

There are a whole load of other what-ifs like O2 and something to do with fast dormancy feature, picasa auto updates and there seems to be a working solution for rooted Xperia's too.

ive got mine on gsm and its doing much better now thank god i do hope i can switch back to dual mode one day though
 
Mine is set to switch between gsm and HSPDA automatically when ever it likes.
Currently on 16 hours with 2 hours or so with display on.

Not bad. I have a screen shot if need be.

I have mine on WDCMA only as my carrier doesn't have a 2G network at all. I've found the battery life to be decent for an Android handset (but I still have to charge it every night).
 
its a software fault bazooka i charged mine well over three times and it was still happening till i switched to a single network mode
 
I'm sure that if users have a solid 2G or 3G connection and the phone doesn't need to swap, the battery would be the same as if you locked it to one band.

As I do quite often lose 3G when moving about, even within the house, locking to 3G has helped immensely.
 
Lithium Ion batteries don't suffer a memory effect, so it doesn't matter how you charge/re-charge. That will make no difference to the overall performance (at least not for a considerable number of charge cycles where the battery begins to deteriorate).
