Root Battery Monitor Widget

Do any of you guys use this? I am a big fan, especially when it comes to seeing how well my phone is sleeping from kernel to kernel. Its interface can be kind of intimidating, but if you install the widget on your home screen, and click on it and then click on history, it will display your battery drain in 5 minute intervals. Now here's where I'm having my issue.

With Sense kernels (Freedom, Chop Suey) or Tiamat 3.3.7, my phone sleeps while on wifi at about -20 ma. Sometimes lower, sometimes a bit higher. So if I leave it sitting out overnight, I have a pretty consistent reading of -20ish usage. This is good. This means my phone will lose maybe a couple % overnight.

However, with newer Tiamat builds or the current SavagedZen build, I get readings of about -60 ma while sleeping on wifi which is pretty substantial (and enough to kill my battery from 40% within 5 hours). I cannot figure out why this is the case. But I only see it on Tiamat 4.x or SavagedZen 2.2.1 (I haven't run a different SZ kernel in ages, so I'm not sure about older builds).

This really ticks me off, because the ICS kernel right now is a modified version of Tiamat 4.1, so I see excessive battery drain. I with they could have modified 3.3.7. And I have checked for wakelocks, runaway rogue apps, everything. Those kernels equal high drain. Do any of you guys use these kernels and Battery Monitor Widget? What readings do you see?

I would really like to see if my readings are normal or if it's just my phone.

Mizzou, I do have BMW on my phone. Sometimes I use it and sometimes I don't.
I'll load up Deck's ICS Pre alpha 5 tonight and leave it hooked up to Wifi. I'll let you know what the reading is.

I'll try to figure out where to look tonight. I may not get back to you until tomorrow evening.
I've been playing with Sense 3.5 Roms. Trying to find one with Beats and VVM. The FearMede has Beats but no VVM. So I don't mind doing something else.

You da man! I'm perplexed because it's certainly not just a problem with deck's ICS, it's just any of those kernels in general. It's maddening because I see other people with ridiculous battery life on these kernels but mine is completely awful. But it's only when I'm on wifi, which is counterintuitive to say the least. ICS actually sleeps very well while I'm on 3G. Probably better than any of the gingerbread kernels.

When I first got my phone in July I used to leave it connected to WiFi. But I stopped because
1-I pay for unlimited Data
2- My Wifi is as fast as 3G
3- I thought it used more battery percentage on Wifi for me than 3G.

But I'll give it a shot. Booting ICS right now. Unless you want me to run a different rom.

The Phone rom is GM 1.1./ Xplod has 3.3.7 (a.k.a. "Lee")/ Supersonic RC1.2 Freedom Stock.

No, ICS is just fine. Just let it sleep for like a half hour and let me know what your -ma values are while sleeping. I don't think calibrating has a whole lot to do with it, because a completely unsettled Tiamat 3.3.7, Freedom or Chop Suey sleeps just fine in the high teens/low twenties for me.

And I'm almost postive that wifi will yield better battery results. My understanding is the wifi radio needs less juice than your 3G radio. With that said, my battery drain appears to be wifi only, so who the heck knows???

Alright, I have some numbers.

ICS Evo Deck Pre Alpha 5
Stock Tiamat Kernel

8:06 -162ma
8:36 -34ma
9:06 -25ma
9:36 -24ma

I turned off the screen around 8 but had a few Gtalk alerts. It pretty much sat from 8:30 to 9:50 or so.

I'm going to let it run overnight too. For the record I leave Auto-sync on and background data.

Dang, I give up. Why on earth does my phone sleep so poorly on wifi with that kernel? It's pretty annoying. Maybe I should give my phone more time to adjust to it? But with all the other kernels I've flashed, the ma readings stay consistent from initial flash to being settled, so I have no idea what the deal is.

After letting it go overnight.
I'll give hourly readings.

11:06 -25ma
12:06 -22
1:06 -22
2:06 -23
3:06 -25
4:06 -22
5:06 -24

This is also with all applications that would run at startup.

Weird that it's just certain kernels that give you an issue. I kind of thought the whole YRMV concerning Kernels was mostly due to what different people like but I guess it actually could be the phone.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Mizzou,

Weird. Well thanks for the info. Your readings on ics are basically what I would normally get on 3.3.7.

Hey nator - what radios are you running? I wonder if I changed, would that maybe make a difference? Would radios have anything to do with wifi at all?

I've never flashed Radio's. I'm using the ones that came on my phone back in July.

Radio
2.15.00.0000

I could see it being an issue if you were on a real old one maybe?
Hope that helps.

Updating your radios "may" affect your 3G data speeds, but I don't think your wifi is affected. I may be worng.
Doing a complete combo radio update also "may" affect your battery use as well. If your phone doesn't like the new pri and nv, it may eat the battery like no ones business.

Also, kernel function is absolutely phone specific. My phone hated the really low undervolted kernels on Froyo. The new Gingerbread kernels are playing pretty nice with undervolting. Seems strange, but you never know. Heck, I've seen folks on here where their phone didn't take any HAVS period, would not work at all.

well the kernel works fine but battery drain while sleeping on wifi is significantly worse than while sleeping on Wi-Fi. It doesn't make any sense to me because any phone should sleep better while on wifi than on 3g.
