Battery--not sure what to do! Should I go back to a BB?

What should I do! I've had the Dinc2 for about 4 weeks now. I really miss when I could go a day or 30 hours or so without charging. I really need help to figure out what to do to conserve battery life--or maybe I should go to Verizon or HTC or Asurion and get a new battery?

Typically I'm a light to moderate user--at most..on a scale of 1-10 (10 being use it all of the time), I'm a 3.5. So I take a train to NYC today and go to a baseball game and by 2:30pm my battery is at 15%..and 15 minutes later (without use), it's down to 5%..and then 0...I used the camera and camcorder a little bit (moderate)--did some emails--a couple of internet searches--but no apps (games, music, etc.).

I've done the "cycle" thing already--

**should I get juice defender

**should I call HTC/Verizon to get help

**Should I get an extended battery (and if so which one should I get)

**Besides task killer (i know there are cons to it), how can I make sure all of these applications on my droid aren't running..especially if I'm not using it.

**Overall, I love the Dinc2--I really do--I want to keep it, but I need to be able to have a longer battery life..

Thanks for your help!

Don't worry about apps running in the background, that isn't where your problem is. The things that use the lionshare of the battery are the screen and the radios. Make sure your wifi isn't set to "Best Wi-fi performance". Also check your screen brightness. With my screen set on "Auto", and moderate phone use, I can easily make it 30 hours. For reference, I took my phone off the charger at about 8:00 this morning, and currently am at 74% battery remaining 10 hours later.

When on the train, do you have cell signal? If not, turn off the radio. Anytime you are searching for signal, you are going to kill your battery quickly.

How many things do you have syncing (email, facebook, twitter, etc.)?

Auto-brightness, at least from what I have read/experienced, is a battery drain. I keep the brightness set at around 35% and BT, WiFi, GPS off unless I need them.

With this phone I can easily go 36 hours at normal use. I bet if I just left it idle and background syncing I could make it through a weekend.

My Eris took some tweaking and the right custom rom to get through a day, so this is a big improvement for me.

Previous suggestions have all been helpful.
I got the HTC-branded extended battery with
battery cover. It makes the phone a little heavier
and changes the hand feel a bit.
But it also doubles use time.
Got it from Amazon.
Note: some of the non-HTC knock-offs have really shabby
battery covers, so shop carefully.
Makes the Incredible2 even more perfect....

This may be one of my problems--I have several email addresses that are syncing--plus facebook and twitter..Should I turn them off--or just make them sync not as often? Thanks

Something is draining your battery faster than normal. I get around 17hours of pretty regular use out of this phone with brightness set to auto.

Are you using live wallpapers? Playing a lot of 3d games? Somethings going on here.

At least set them to sync less frequently. Experiment until you get a good balance of performance and battery life.

I'm not using live wallpapers (I actually don't know what that is)--also, I do not play in 3D games---I took about 20 pictures today ..but yes, something must be draining it

Basically, on a typical normal day, I get about 14 hours of battery life with VERY LIGHT use--with light to moderate use I get about 8-9 hours of battery life.--Today-with moderate use, I got about 6 hours

that is most likely the culprit, set them to sync less often (4 hours) and if need be you can go into each account and sync it manually.

I am with ya OP. Yesterday was the first full day I had my Dinc2 and I only made it 13 hours with minimal use. I absolutely love the phone, but coming from a BlackBerry the battery life is making me think I could be exchanging within the 14 days. I mean I guess I could just keep a car charger around which would work most of those times. However, other times when it's not handy I don't wanna deal with having a cell phone that cant even survive a full day.

All I can hope is today will be better, and pray the first day was a fluke.

BTW, if this is one of the phones that has better battery life I can only imagine what it's like having a Thunderbolt. The thing probably dies before you leave your driveway in the morning.

As others have mentioned do all the configuration tweaks and get HTC extended 2150 mah battery. It really does make a big difference in battery life. I also came from a blackberry where I could get 2 days out of charge. With the HTC extended I'm to get close to the same. Pushing 1 corporate email account and polling 1 yahoo address every 30 mins.

The slim Seidio battery is good too, but I think they way overstate their specs. It does however give you some additional run time without the added thickness.

by the way, I work from home most of the time--is it better to have my Dinc2 on Wifi or on G3---on a normal day, I am not downloading anything or doing heavy internet use.

Thanks

wifi is much better for battery life than 3G. if at all possible connect to wifi when around available wifi.

Just reading the thread I am at 41% battery life after being off the charger for 30 hours which is pretty good. I am a moderate user like yourself, I am always tasking killing. Thats all I can say, I am having no problems by doing that and task killing moderately

ok thanks--yes, when I read posts like the previous ones, it makes me want to go to verizon and see what I can do about getting a new battery--

Just a quick note after some tests. I have owned several android phones and this one gets the best battery life. I never task kill and here is my performance:

1. With GPS ON and moderate use: Goes to 5% battery in 20 hours
2. With GPS on and WIFI and moderate use: Goes to 5% in 13-15 hours
3. With GPS OFF and WIFI OFF and HEAVY USE: Goes to 5% in 8-9 hours
4. With typical everyday use GPS being turned on and off and wifi on and off: 5% in 30 hours.

I think this phone has a fantastic battery. When I will be out for an extended time like hiking, I just turn off all the radios until I need them so no battery drain as I go in and out of coverage.

Well, I followed the advice of many people. I had moderate use today including playing some games; taking pictures; uploading the pictures to facebook; emailing;etc..and I'm not even on 'yellow' yet and it's 9pm--13 hours for me. Basically, I stopped having all 5 of my email addresses and twitter and facebook sync all of the time. I only have gmail (my main email address) sync. This has definitely helped my battery life significantly . Thanks for everyone's posts! I'm on Cloud 9 that I'm going to go the entire day with moderate use without having to charge my battery

Hmmm, I tried this and it didn't really work for me. I did one factory reset and I don't want to do it again, I doubt it helps. How do you tell your apps to stop syncing?
