Help Battery problems - are there apps I can disable?

I was hoping that Jelly Bean would help with battery life but it seems to have made it worse. I have not used my phone a lot today, certainly not more than usual amd at 2.45pm it's showing 35% 7hr 11mins after unplugging. This is with the battery recommended in the thread Bloomin' Batteries everywhere. It wasn't as bad as this since installing JB but seems to be getting worse now.

I didn't factory reset after installing JB so may still do that if it is going to make a difference. I really don't want root, but I'm wondering if there are any apps I can disable which might help with battery life? I'm not in to the social networking/Facebook/Twitter etc so don't need any of that.

Now 3p.m. and it's showing 26%. That's 9% in 15 mins! That's after I've just done a battery pull. Think there's something wrong here.

The thread started by Phredog is possibly a good place to start even though I don't know what OS it pertains to.

It may also be useful to check out the SGN2 thread at

Doing a factory reset after such a big update like ICS to Jellybean usually fixes some problems/bugs such as battery drains.

Thank you both. I have disabled what looks sensible and am working my way through the SGS2 list linked to in one of the posts.

Sorry, but what is a factory reset and will I lose things? Also, what is SGS2?

A factory reset resets your phone to how it was when you first received it out of the box. And yes, you do. But you can make backups of your apps/contacts/messages and restore them after you perform a factory reset.

SGS2 = Samsung Galaxy S2 which was Samsung's flagship device in 2011.

If you go to 'Menu key / Settings / Back up and reset / Factory data reset' on the phone you will get the following warning notice which gives some detail of what will be lost :-

"All data will be erased from USB storage, including your Google account system and application data, settings, and downloaded applications. Music Photos Other user data The key for decrypting files on the SD card (You cannot use files on the SD card after a factory data reset)"

On top of that you can add all your messages, notes, emails, home screen settings etc. The downloaded apps will not be completely lost because you can at least readily re-install any apps you obtained from Google Play (Market).

As you can see a factory reset is only something one only contemplates as a last resort when nothing else can solve the problem.

PS I got the quote from an English to English 'Google Translate' of a screen dump of the phone. Soo easy!
