Help battery / processor temp

When using navigation (and sometimes just a speedometer app) with the evo plugged into the car charger I always get a period where everything operates normally then - crash. White screen and reboot after reboot till finally I get a boot lock. I'm wondering if this is temperature related and due to either the charger or application overheating the system. How would I isolate the cause and what would I need to monitor an impending crash?

Doesnt sound liek a temperature problem to me, but I wouldnt know how to isolate the problem
