Help Battery Pull

Newbie
Bionic requires a battery pull every 2-3 days. It locks up so that the screen does not respond; or if the screen is off, the notification light shows new email but cannot activate the screen by pushing anywhere. VZW local had no clue.

This can be any of a number of things. Those that I kinow about are accumulated in the message at ... http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-bionic/421050-useful-how-tos-tips.html#post3507953 ... you might want to check it out.

You can hold down Volume Up/Volume Down/Power until it starts to load. This is a "soft reset" and is the smae as a "battery pull" (minus the cracked fingernail).

I got my Bionic in September minutes after it went on sale. I have done this soft reset ONCE since then.

Many thanks. Did not know about the "soft reset". I would add that VZW gave me an 800 number for support to call the next time it happens for immediate support.

If you are new to the problem ... take a look at the message pointed at in my previous message. It is the result of a lot of trial-an-error learning from a lot of different people in this forum.

You could also point your Verizon people at it ... maybe it will help some others who follow.

I rooted my Bionic today and today is the first time in the 3 weeks I've had it that I had to do a battery pull due to the phone becoming unresponsive. Usually it's after i let the phone sit with the screen on without touching it for a while; when I try to go back to it the touchscreen is un responsive and the power button does nothing. A battery pull or a "soft reset" now that I've read this thread is the only way I can get the phone to respond again.

Before rooting I had a few random reboots, but nothing too frequent or annoying. This unresponsive, needing battery pull business is extremely annoying and frequent, and only today after rooting!

UPDATE: So far after uninstalling SetCPU, I have had no more freezes that require a battery pull!

Stock, Rooted Droid Bionic, Bootstrap, CWM Recovery, several frozen apps.

I have had SetCPU installed since Day 1 and am not really experiencing issues with it. I do have it still installed and authorized to run by SuperUser but I have not touched any of the settings. Have you guys switched the CPU scaling to anything other than the stock mot_hotplug? Only thing I use SetCPU is to benchmark it. I haven't tried to overclock it yet since we still have a locked bootloader and no undervolt kernel D:.

My phone is not rooted. Have now done a Master Reset. No problems for 3 days but need more time.

If you did that as a next-to-last step of the process I recommended to you then it is likely that you had a bad App installed. Bad means either it has bugs or its intentionally attacking you.

I suggest you reinstall the Apps a few at a time and give them time to "show up" so you know which one to remove ... and warn the rest ofg us about.

I remember in the OG Droid days where I had a bad app causing glitches on my phone. I would install a new rom and after reinstalling all my apps I started having problems. I redid my rom several times and thought it was the rom. I eventually installed apps one by one and found one program that was conflicting with my rom. Removed it and never saw an issue afterwards. Some apps may work despite them not being Bionic compatible but may cause errors cause it's doing something that the Bionic does not like. So Thom's suggestion is a good one and recommended to isolate the problem.
