Help Battery removal questions

When I bought my Optimus almost two weeks ago at a Sprint store, the salesman told me I needed to physically remove my battery about once a week. This sounded pretty odd to me, so I have not yet followed this advice.

Has anyone else gotten similar instruction/advice? If so, are you following that advice?

Is there a technical reason to actually do this?

Does removing the battery have a different effect than just doing a full power down?

Any information would be appreciated.

I just got my Optimus Friday, But I've had a palm treo and a Blackberry curve. I had to take my battery out at least twice a week on those devices. Think of your smart phone as a computer(which it really is). Just as computers sometimes need rebooting so does your smart phone. It clears out a lot of clutter. It actually helps keep it running smoothly. To reboot leave the phone on when you remove the battery.

I agree with most of what you said. Although I don't have an Optimus, I believe the phone can be rebooted without taking out the battery. Just power off...which is different than putting the display to sleep. I'm sure an Optimus owner can (and will) confirm.

Is there a reset button to press that will bypas batt, no, ten I say if it pleases you.

rebooting by battery and contact terminals not touching. I wonder if there is a litium battery as well in tecell.

Yes, I can CONFIRM...With every new cell phone, I always let it drain completely, after it dies, try to turn it on over and over. When the LG logo doesn't come on anymore, start charging.. This is called "conditioning" your battery. I've never heard anybody taking the battery out, though....I would think just turning it off would reset everything

I should have said with my past devices I had to do a soft reset to keep my phone working. The blackberry was a pain if I didn't reboot. I will assume the same with this phone unless someone confirms this since this is my first android phone.

if you use the phone and forget to charge you'll sit ter wondering why the four lights are dim and flasing. do not panic , charge your phone come back wen its around 5-7% it will gain enough power to carge and usewith ac.

I'm coming from a Droid X that I had for 2 months... I never did a battery pull on that phone and I never had a reason too.

I'm of the opinion that if you run into stability issues and need to do a battery pull, then do it, otherwise just use the phone.

The only time you should do a battery pull is an occasion of compllete lockup and you can't even force a power down.

Otherwise just doing a standard power down will function as a reset.
