Root Battery Saver - HEYITSLOU KERNEL

Has anyone ran a test to see which is better on battery life, Lou #4, #8, or #9? I currently have #4 with Virtuous 3.2. The kernel is amazing - fast, snappy, and great battery life (28 hours on, 5 hours awake, with 1800mah). However, I'm always looking for improvement (i know, i'm greedy!).

More anecdotal evident here with Virtuous, I switched from #4 to #8 yesterday and noticed an improvement. With heavy use over the past day (a combination of games, internet, pandora and phone calls on wifi) I'm at almost 24hrs up and over 4hrs awake. The battery is still at 43%. I cleared battery stats yesterday and did a full charge (no bump).

Edit: I forgot to mention, I used the custom kernel/Set CPU combo on virtuous prioir and would be between 25-30% about now. Also I assume my more moderate use on 3G will similar to heavy use on Wifi

so with #8, it seems about equal to the kernel that came with SR3.5, which isnt much different that unrooted stock phone

right now im at 19h, 10m since unplugged, 2:13 awake, and 45% battery...ive also been turning off the mobile network when im not using it and using wifi where its available, but off once i leave. screen is at 50% brightness.

hopefully ill get good results from the 1800mah ive got on the way.

I wonder how these kernels would work in combination with juice defender? I've gotten 28 hrs before my batt got down to 15% on an unrooted stock battery dinc. I bet the combination of both would be ridiculous!

I actively manage juice defender while using these kernels and the custom virtuous kernel. JD works well with it. I have noticed my battery savings goes down (not sure why), however every little bit helps. I was getting 1.96-2.15 when I was stock, now it's down to 1.50-1.65x battery life. Of course, this is just a estimate according to JD (not quite sure the accuracy) and I could have been using my phone more, which will reduce battery savings.

I have settled with Virtous 3.2, with the custom kernel, using both SetCPU and JD. I get about 30-35 hours of up time on each charge with between 6-8 hours of awake time (on a bump charge). I got slightly less than this with the LOU kernels, around 28 hours of up and 5 hours awake. I used Lou 4 and 8 for about a week each. They were quick and nice, however I noticed NO performance difference whatsoever between the custom Virtuous kernel - and virtuous offered better battery life. Quite honestly, I'm not sure what LOU's kernel does different (or better than) the custom Virtuous kernel with SetCPU. Everyone raves about those kernels, but I'm thinking it must be for those not running the Virtuous rom...

I set my profiles to underclock as the battery decreases, with the screen off, and when temperature becomes too hot.

I strongly recommend Skyraider ROM and Lou kernel to everyone.
thanks for the tip i will try it this weekend
(Update) ok i flashed skyraider 3.5 and lou#8. any other tips or apps needed to increase battery life? thanks for any input guys.

(update 2) after 24 hours i saw minimal improvements with this setup over my brothers stock dinc. after 12 hours with no use the battery was down to 12% and that was with no calls or texts. i must have had something set wrong because the miui setup i had with invisiblek#28 kernal outperfomed this by a mile. are there settings that need to be tweaked to get better life?

(update 3) flashed Redeptive Revolution 2.1.3 w/ Ziggy's BETA BFS Jan 2 2011 kernel and had incredible results. after 5 hours a few texts and a quick phonecall (2 min) the battery gauge finally hit 90% at this rate we are talking 50 hours in between charges with a stock battery. i will rock this setup for a week and see how it goes.swype fixed :)
PEACE

Alright, this is my first post. First of all thanks to everyone on the forum for being so helpful (while lurking).

I tried flashing HeyItsLou Custom Sense Kernel #8 with my stock rom. I wiped both the Partition Cache and the Delvik Cache beforehand. I believe I have done everything right and followed all the steps. However, after I intall the kernel from the sd card and reboot it will not progress beyond the white EVO 4G screen.

Anyone have any tips or solutions? Its super frustrating...

Thanks peeps:D

well,do you have an evo or an incredible? youre in the incredible forum,so if you have an evo we are prolly not much help ;)

or do you have an incredible running the "unrevoked" boot animation?

I have an evo. I assumed, I could still use this kernel, even though I have an Evo. Apparently I was wrong.
Thanks anyway!

I am new to custom kernels. I am running SkyRaider 3.5 on my Incredible. I just loaded HeyItsLou #8 onto my phone. Seems like everything went ok. My primary reason for installing the kernel is to achieve better battery life. Are there any other steps or settings I need to do to get the most out of this kernel? Also, I went into my menu/about phone/software version. The kernel version says:

2.6.32.17-HeyItsLou-Cifs-Tun-Ext4WN-BFQ
rizzo@rizzo-laptop #1

I just wanted to confirm that this looks like #8 has been installed correctly? I thought it would have said #8 somewhere in the title.

Thanks for your support!

Just flashed heyitslou #8 with my stock ROM with no trouble whatsoever. I noticed a slight speed increase right off the bat! It seems like it takes shorter time to load an app and to switch between apps as well as in the manage application setting it used to take about 15-20 secs for all the app icons and disk usage to load but now it does in about 6-7 seconds. This is my first cycle with the kernel so not sure about battery saving yet, but definitely impressed so far!

Since I started this thread I figure I should give an update as to where I am.

I finally made the move to CM7 (a non-sense ROM) a few weeks ago. I am using CM7 along with Chad's incredikernel 2.6.37.6

My battery life is WAAAAAAAY (like not even close) better than it ever was with my sense ROM and HeyItsLou kernels.

I recommend you all make the switch.

(today - I am at 8 and a half hours on battery - CM7 doesnt give awake time but they give graphs so I'd say my awake time is about 30-40% of the total so probably about 3 hours - surfing online, texts, phone calls, flashlight for 20 min, playing Jet Car Stunts for about 40 min etc etc - and I am at 54% battery!)

Does a kernel affect connectivity? At Disneyland my wife's stock incredible and daughter's stock droid 2 showed 3g and mine had 1x data.
