Battery saving tips

Android Enthusiast
Hi guys,

Firstly im no expert, however I would like share my experiences and knowledge of battery saving tips. This is probably best suited to novices like myself and some maybe obvious.

Tip 1 :

Turn off wifi, GPS, Bluetooth - when not using it.

Tip 2 :

When connected to wifi, turn off mobile data

Tip 3 :

Turn off googles location service, unless you need latitude. - Settings - Location Services - Turn off all 4 boxes.

Tip 4 :

Dim screen brightness, I like to use a widget called brightness level, mainly keep brightness on 25%. Screen brightness is a big culprit for battery drain.

Tip 5 :

Disable apps you dont use, e.g. email and exchange servces. You can disable apps, by going into manage apps within settings.

Tip 6 :

Turn off backround data sync within apps. Apps such as Google currents, pulse etc, regulary download data in background, turn this off and manually download when you actually use the app.

Tip 7 :

If your a facebook user, uninstall the official facebook app as this is a big battery drainer, I prefer to use :

Theres probably some more tips I've forgotten to add, but these are the main ones I follow.

I was going to start a thread for battery saving tips... I think we all need it. Thanks much for the post...

my one tip:

dont use live wallpaper such as this

Hi guys, I am a SGS2 user and I want to share some astonishing facts regarding my latest experience and potentially help those who have battery drainage issues. Here's what happened after I made a few tweaks on my SGS2. I am not quite sure yet what did the miracle. I will analyze and let you all know.
I don't know if the following link will come through, since I am a newly registered user of android forums. Anyway I am trying to illustrate with the following image that after more than 24 hours of usage, my battery is at 94%.

It's really hard to believe, isn't it?

I clicked on the link, but it is broken... :(

You just can't get the staff these days! :banghead:

Here's the link that Hawker was referring to...

I have to say that post #4 is very good for non-rooted phones.

On a standard battery... yes! :hmmmm:

I'm wondering if your battery fuel gauge is mis-reading. Maybe try to re-calibrate it using this method:-

Are you kidding? I do not need battery calibration. And to prove that I'll send you a picture of my battery status when it is at 50%. Just let me find out what exactly did the job. My phone IS rooted..........

I am using the following apps in addition to my extended battery:

DX Battery Saver and

Screen Filter

The screen Brightness seems to be the biggest juice hog and this application filters the light to the point that you still can see, but save battery in the process..
I have tried other Battery Saving apps, they did not work for me.

I am at about 50% at the end of the day with heavy phone usage..

A 6% battery drop in 24 hours = a battery drain of .025% per hour which would give you a battery life of 400 hours or over 16.5 days between charges... on a standard battery on a rooted phone in normal usage.

Whilst I appreciate that Samsung claim a 610 hour standby on 3G... this is under test conditions with all other features disabled.

It would be helpful if you could post a screenshot to replace your previous one that does not appear to show in the post you made, here.

Also, just a few questions...

What ROM are you running?

What kernel are you using?

Do you have the image you get when you click on the graph? It gives you a breakdown of the connections and whether is was charged or not (i notice that if i charge using the USB port of my laptop the graph doesn't reset).

That's an amazing result assuming you've never charged using USB in between that time.

I am getting bored now. Just wanted to test the battery. I have been using it mainly for phone calls (after all that's what the phone is for). However, you all know guys, that your phone's battery drains, even when you don't do anything with it.
All I did was, uninstall the Play Google Store app and some other factory installed rubbish. Also I use Advanced task killer.
For a while I used Juice defender. Eventually I uninstalled it, since it generally controls the WiFi. Now I switch it on and off manually whenever there's a wireless network around. I don't have 3G.

Let me know if you have any questions or if I forgot to mention something.

Cell standby and Phone idle are the winners huh? :smokingsomb:

All you have done is the following...

All I did was, uninstall the Play Google Store app and some other factory installed rubbish. Also I use Advanced task killer.

As per Kasser's post, have you got an image of the, "History details", that you get from pressing on the grey graph at the top of your, "Battery", screen, (where it shows, "Discharging", in your screenshot)?

Do you have the image you get when you click on the graph? It gives you a breakdown of the connections and whether is was charged or not (i notice that if i charge using the USB port of my laptop the graph doesn't reset).

I'll check that and will get you an image. I understand, you have a suspicion that I am cheating. I have no such ambition. Just trying to help you all guys.

This is the image you requested.

I stopped the Mobile Network signal for 3 nights. Then I noticed that it does not affect the battery at all, so I kept it on for the rest of the time.
WiFi I used very briefly, only to check emails, to upload these images and small things like that. You can see a small spec of charging. That's when I plugged in via USB for about 5-10 min to transfer some files from my laptop.

Let me know if you have any more questions

Greetings

I, for my part, would certainly not accuse you of, "cheating".

My first thought, as is often the case, was that your battery needed to re-calibrate itself.

I think I can see, in part, how this longevity is arrived at.

Would still be interested in which ROM and kernel you are using though. ;)
