Root Battery shows as always charging

My NC always reports that it is always charging, even when not plugged in. Because of that many stats reporting apps, like Spare Parts, don't give good (or any) info about what's using the battery.
In my blunderings about I haven't seen a fix for that, do you know of one?

You need to always be at 100% when flashing a rom. Deleting batt stats from recovery didn't work in the past so unless they just fixed it, it's best to use Battery Calibration app from Market. My experience is mine will show green on the cord at about 98% charged, then will continue to charge a bit after that.

So charge it until the cord turns green, maybe 20-30 minutes longer, then delete batt stats with app and reboot, then you can unplug the charger and don't charge it until it dies (if you want the battery accurate), then fully charge after that. I figure I have the stock battery and it should be in good shape so I don't bother to run mine dead. Last time I did that tho it died at about 24% so close. PBD is when it dies at 30% or greater. If it's in the teens it just needs to be calibrated and flashing a rom every other day w/o running it dead only makes the calibration worse, not better.

I NOTICED it immediately after I rooted, I'm not sure if it wasn't doing it when stock, or if the stock battery icon just doesn't make it as obvious. I've flashed several different ROMs and kernels and they all do the same thing, the battery icon shows as charging. I also use a widget called 'BattStat' and it shows the battery status as 'Charging'.
The battery level always appears to be correct (it shows the accurate percent of charge), but it always shows as charging. Because of that, any app that monitors battery usage 'since last unplugged' never starts monitoring because they believe the NC is always plugged in.

Colchiro, I've done the battery calibration bit a few times, while it may improve the percent available accuracy, it doesn't change this particular problem. The charging cord goes from orange to green appropriately.

Things that make you say 'hmmmmm...'.

Sorry, I missed that part.

Have you tried installing to a sdcard or a clean install (formatting data partition), then seeing if the issue occurs BEFORE installing apps?

I suspect you could fully charge the battery, boot into recovery, create a backup, format your data partition, remove the sdcard or insert a blank one, then boot into the rom and see if the problem is resolved when the charger is removed.

(We'd hijacked the "can't overclock" thread, so I pulled these out to start a separate thread).

Last night I wiped system/data/cache. Flashed nightly 124, Gapps and Dal's 0630. After signing in to the ROM I did not updated anything from the Market (either manually or automatically) and the battery was showing as charging while not plugged in.
What I forgot to do was remove the SB card before reboot. I'll try that sometime today to see if it makes a difference.

There's several of those, like in the guides linked to the sticky.

Is there a hardware problem? Still under warranty?

I am beginning to suspect a hardware problem, yep it's still under warranty.
I think my next step is to flash the 1.2 ROM and see what it says the battery is doing Assuming there is something there that indicates whether or not the battery is charging, which I don't remember - I didn't use the stock ROM long enough to remember that detail.

Well, it turns out that it's a funky little hardware issue.
If I unplug the charger from the Nook then the Nook continues to show as charging. However if I unplug the charger from the wall and then remove it from the Nook, the Nook doesn't show as charging. I checked on getting it replaced, and a replacement is no problem, but it wouldn't be a new unit, and they wouldn't guarantee that it would be a v1.2 NC. Since I'm rooting the version probably doesn't really make a difference, but a 'certified pre-owned' one maybe isn't what I want either. Perhaps I'll just muck along with this some more to see how it goes.

Because me and my Nook are often on my boat, and electronic devices really don't like salt water, I went for the extended warranty - so I'm good for a year.

Don't forget the replacement may not OC as well either. :D

Maybe Dave can get you an amazing replacement. His OC's nicely.

That's the main reason why I don't want to get a different one. Mine works fine in every other regard, it just has this one little quirk. I'll just live with the quirk. If it turns out that this is just a symptom of a larger problem, well, there's always that extended warranty.
