Battery Stats explaination request

Hello,

I would like to ask for a meaning behind my battery stats for the HTC Desire I recently bought please. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Before my phone was reporting 95% 'use' by Andriod System and the other 5% for Idle.

So then once the battery went down to 20% after some Gaming/Browsing using Wifi etc i charged my phone fully(3 hours) and then turned off the phone and turned it back on again and it showed that 67% was now being 'used' by Andriod System.

After the phone was charged I didnt use the phone since I was asleep and below are the stats after I had woken up:

Battery Stats
Cell Standy: 53%
Time Without Signal: 20%
Phone Idle: 44%
Andriod System: 3%

Battery Level: 92%
16h 13m since Unplugged

Running Services:
JuiceDefender
MiniInfo
MailService(keeps running when phone is woken up. Is this neccessary?)
Calender
ObexService
TouchInput

Other: 66MB in 4
Available: 154 + 164MB in 36

Wifi, Bluetooth, MobileNetwork connection, GPRS and Background Services were switched off prior to the phone being charged.

Are the above Stats any good? Any concerns with any of the above?

I was wondering whether I should have switched on AirPlane mode when I went to sleep. Would that have helped?

Thanks in advance,

Thanks, I will. I have also switched Mobile Network Settings' Network Mode to 'GSM Only' for testing purposes. Prior to this it was set to 'GSM / WCDMA auto'.

Yes, 2G uses much less power to establish and maintain a connection than 3G. Even wifi is less power than 3G

Just a little tip here for those who use 'Orange T-Mobile' joint connections. YES if using 2G otherwise you might get problems in 3G. For me it was like 'no connection' occasionally on phone calls. A little verbal 'slip' from Orange suggested that 3G did not always work too well when using their recent suggestion of connecting to both operators. Since reverting to Orange alone I no longer have problems.

Personally I keep 3G and wi-fi on. NEVER GPS unless connected to the car charger otherwise you'll see the battery deplete as you watch! One can never win and anyhow these so called smartphones are all about using what they offer instead of this tweaking all the time - rather defeats to object of the phone, does it not?

Its confusing to anyone that isnt savvy on Android. I would love to see the definitions. what does it all mean?

What exactly is Android System? I thought it was when the phone is working away surfing or whatever but my last check on my battery was: Android System 43% Display 15% so my phone was off over 25% of the time Android System was working??? Do I have a leak then? What is my juice defender doing?

Same as phone idle was 17% By that it implies that my phone was not idle 83% of the time - so I cant have a leak then

Looks about right. Try with airplane mode next time and post the difference.

I have tried Airplane mode over night and the battery level dropped to 77%. Before i went to sleep and enabled Airplan mode it was 88%.

I then went into Battery Level stats and phone idle is taking up more.
Phone Idle 66%
Cell standby 15%
Andriod System: 15%
Display: 4%

JNEVER GPS unless connected to the car charger otherwise you'll see the battery deplete as you watch!

GPS only uses battery if an app is actively using GPS. If it is not flashing in the status bar, it is not using anything.

I never turn mine off. I only turn wifi off when I'm not at home. using Tasker.

Hmm. 11%? That suggests a bit more that I would expect. Have you got spare parts? If so check the partial wake usage.

Just downloaded Spare Parts. Had a look in Battery Usage > chose Partial Wake Usage and the following was displayed:

Andriod System 5m
Mail Service - 3m
Juice Defender - 1m
UID 10032 -21s

Android System is exactly that, the Android (Operating) System. Its the phone equivilent to Windows on your PC (if you do own a Mac I wouldn't mention it ;)). Even when the phone's idle, its ticking away quietly in the background waiting for something to happen. However, when the phones off everything's off. The operating system can't run when there's nothing for it to run on.

Its not 43% of the time. Its 43% of the battery used. So, if your battery's got 75% left and Android System is at 43% then Android System has used 43% of the 25% of the battery that's been used (i.e. 10.75%).

Hopefully that makes sense?
