Help Battery Still Sucks! What gives?

I was having terrible battery suck issues. At your suggestion I installed Juice Defender, and wow, I am so impressed! It seems to be a miracle worker. Although, I can't seem to find a guide that explains how to do the settings. When I look at the JD screen it says: "battery life: x1.92" what does this mean? (I know, I'm phone-speak challenged.)

I've googled trying to find a tutorial or something to explain the app but I haven't found anything. Does anyone have a couple of minutes to just post the need to know stuff?

I very much appreciate your time! And thanks to BadAnkles for the recommendation!

your welcome. you can go to the developer's site for more information about the free version of juice defender (j/d) and the ultimate juice add-on, i have both and posted by settings here: http://androidforums.com/samsung-epic-4g/194870-my-juice-defender-epic.html?highlight=juice+defender

remember, this is based on your individual usage. signal strength and usage of wifi effects battery life. also, know that there might still be an issue with TWS (it is for me), and of course the rogue running services that should be checked periodically and killed. understand all that first, then install and configure juice defender (with or without ultimate juice) to even further help increase battery life.

my recommendation:

power cycle
check TWS and toggle airplane mode (if needed)
check running services and kill the rogue ones (DRM, hotspot, media hub, tv, etc.)
turn on wifi (if you have it, use wifi as much as you can)
install j/d (and ultimate juice)
open j/d
go through setup
j/d should now be enabled
touch any of the buttons to adjust (e.g., Data, WiFi, Timeout, etc.)

again, configure/adjust to your need.

good luck

How did you get the schedule to be 3 m/hr? When I slide the dial up, it goes to 10min/hour. I can't figure out how to make the minutes stay low and increase the duration.

Keep sliding the bar toward the 2h mark, that option will show

I have moved it up and down a bagillion times. I can get 10 min/hr, but not 3. :( bummer b/c that sounds like the perfect setting.

I have noticed an immediate difference since I installed JD, but I don't find the app intuitive at all, but that could just be me.

There is a "Quick" button to the right of the slider - hitting that will reduce the "on" time for all periods. It's a one-shot thing, you can't adjust how quick it is, but it gives you 2 options at each time interval.

Who needs to know the weather every hour?
If I need weather, I turn on the weather channel app or surf to the NOAA website.
Same with email.Polling every hour is using a lot of battery.
I set mine to never poll.I do it manually when I want to check emails.
Also, your phone will charge quicker with no weather and no email polling.

you should really try juice defender... It works amazing for me.

Do you think it works better than Advaned Task Killer? I have mine set to aggressive and set automatically to kill apps whenever the screen turns off but the battery still blows. I am however planning on rooting today so hopefully that will help.

Sorry to keep bugging ya'll, but I have another JD question. I was able to set the schedule to 3 min/hour, but now my email isn't syncing up anymore. I had 15 emails sitting in my inbox that I didn't know about. Any help is greatly appreciated!! :-)

That's part of the give and take. Email synching requires data access.

Yea, I get that. What I mean is, that it's set to access data every hour but I had emails from throughout the day. It's not syncing the email when it accesses data.

So, JD says x1.92 but I'm still only getting 10 hrs of battery life and I'm not even on my phone much. Is that normal??

Normal can only be defined by your usage and settings and what you have installed and running.

Edit: give it a few more "normal" cycles, then disable J/D. Go without it a few "normal" cycles to know for sure.

It appears the biggest battery suck is cell standby followed by display. I've been unplugged for 3 hrs and the battery is already at 76%. I'm not sure what settings I should change or what to set them to in order to not have this issue. Do you have any ideas?

Touch the cell standby to see what percentage the time without service is at? If TWS percentage is hugging 50% after an hour of good service then looks like you still have the reported problem like I do. Just do a quick toggle of the airplane mode. You should see that percentage fall closer to zero. That's a big battery drain.

TWS is 0%!
