Battery still sucks!

I'm not sure if anyone wrote this or if that link said to do this, but I've "fixed" my own plus a few of my friends. Previously, on idle, I'd get about 4-5 hours before completely down.

The only change I made was going into settings, accounts and syncing. Turned off auto-sync, left background data on. Unchecked each thing individually if it wasn't though it shouldn't matter after the autosync is removed.

My phone EASILY lasts the entire day and I'm a text/call monster. Oddly enough, when its close to dead (under 10%) I still got about 3-4 hours out of it. It hasn't died on me yet sitting overnight as well.

I use app killers as well just for convenience in turning off what's running when I want to, I don't really notice if it makes a difference in battery life. I have an active background, I usually use my phone as music all day even when I'm walking around. I nearly returned it, but now I'm incredibly happy with it. Best phone I've ever used.

Hope this helps some of you.

So when i'm at home, is it easier on the battery to use WiFi instead of the mobile network?

I have read that this is precisely the case. I couldnt give you any figures on battery saving, however I do leave my wireless on and autoconnect to my home network

Since the update i can run into almost 2 days worth of usage, the one good thing that came out of the update anyway ...

Task killers do more harm than good, don't care for them personally and actually tried it for myself it and wreaked havoc on my battery ...

I am not a fanboi and I will not sugarcoat problems.

Everything that has been said in this thread has been covered a hundred times before in other threads, if it did not work before, it will not work now.

In the technology world you learn three basic lessons.

1.) There are always flaws.
2.) Self realization of unworkable problems means less down time.
3.) Complaining about the above two lessons gets you no where.

My phone is a tool, it has to work now and when I need it. I will not baby it, I will not cuddle it. If the tool does not function, you either;
1.) Learn to deal with the flaws.
2.) Find another tool that will work as a tool.
3.) Learn to read, re-read, re-re-read what has been posted and documented before. So you can actually bring matter to the subject and not just complaints.

He did not post in the battery thread? Why? Because this is not meant to help him. If he wanted help he would have gone to the battery thread.

You see how that works?

So this is a mindless rant in which we are going to regurgitate what has already been said, and scream at each other until the thread is locked.

I wish to god the mods would simply lock these threads and point the problem the sticky that already exists.

The sticky has great information but its not the end-all cure-all, its just a reference place. My point is the op and the next guy need help, 90% of the people passing through here wouldnt see his post in the battery thread, hence a new thread created in general discussion.

Good to know.

I have wifi in my office and at home. So i'm going to turn off the mobile connection unless i'm in my car.

You can actually have WiFi set to be the default, so anytime you're at a known network wifi will take over and 3g will shut down.

menu, settings, wifeless & networks, wifi settings, menu, advanced, wi-fi sleep policy, Never

I dont think you need to do that, just set it up to autoconnect to your networks and it will pre-empt the mobile data.

Thanks again. It was already set to Never by default.

So what you are saying is if I leave WiFi and Mobile running, Mobile is actually shut down (not using battery) when i'm in an area with a recognized WiFi network?

I would never call someone that (publicly, lol) however, generally anyone who so vehemently defends a device that they resort to name calling and general nastiness even when offered both impirical and non-subjective physical evidence pretty much falls into that category.

I dont know that mobile is actually shut down as I imagine it still is used by some services like text and perhaps email. I am not versed enough to say that for certain, however as I understand it it will use the wirless for any acctive use like surfing / streaming and perhaps syncing.

When I had battery issues my up and awake time were equal, that is indicative of a problem. When my phone is sleeping properly battery becomes a non issue and that is without turning everything off (except 4g). I dont use facebook, but let everything else sync as per the default settings.

^ This. I've only recently started having battery issues (since last Friday) One of the first things i noticed was that my up and awake time were almost the same. The phone was never sleeping. You may want to check this. Hit *#*#4636#*#* and you can look at a detailed battery usage screen. If Your up and awake time are close to the same you probably have something running in the background killing your phone.

I'm not saying you're going to want to by I did a factory restore on my phone last night and it seems to be working. I haven't reinstalled all of my apps yet, just a small few. But I've a bit over 7 hours on the current charge and at 83% so i think it may be working.

No, mobile data isn't shutdown, just the 3g antenna.
I think when you shutdown mobile data by default you're telling the OS you dont want 3g on, because that's really the only reason to have 3g.

The WiFi antenna draws less power, so you

Precisely the issue I had, and (I hope this doesnt happen to you) I did the FDR. After each FDR the phone would sleep properly for 2 or maybe 3 days, afterwards it would be at 100% awake again. My phone would start re-booting nearly every time I opened navigator when this happened.

I never used that testing menu to try to determine what was awake, instead using system panel to monitor. It always showed android system as the highest. I went through this cycle several times, even ended up leaving the phone bare of any market apps but the problem persisted. Finally after the update the problem dissapeared.

Were you able to identify what was running the whole time?

Do the OTA if you have not already. If you have facebook syncing on, disable it by unchecking contacts and live feed.

I HAVE YOUR APP

Just add this app. Myself, my wife and my dad all have Evos which tripled the battery life with this app.

Search
"Power save mode toggle" in the app store and it's the first one to come up. Install it, turn it on and forget it.

it's simple bro..turn off mobile connection if your not using it..it will be like night and day how much longer your battery last..heck you can leave

I don't agree with this.

I had a blackberry before the EVO that I kept Google Talk, Live Messenger, Sports Score Apps, etc... running all of the time. It also would pull email from my OWA every ten minutes while Gmail was pushed to the native client.

That didn't have any negative effects on the battery.

You should remember that the processor of this phone will rival the power consumption of laptops 5-6 yrs ago. What's the CPU rating of your BB? How much juice does the battery hold? My Treo could last an entire week with regular usage. Simply because it has more juice on it's battery and it's processor is about a third as powerful. You're comparing apples to oranges mate.

I think I have decent battery life. Usuallg my batteries will last the entire work day. But I usually carry a spare and I do have an extra battery handy just in case.

Sent using my HTC Evo 4G.

What are you guys comparing this battery against???blackberry, LG's...I work for VZW and I had the eris now the Incredible and july 15th the DroidX....My battery lasts me a day easy with web browsing text the basics...but the second I turn on my world cup live I get about halftime and the battery is real low...you need a car charger no question about it...the adv task killer is good to keep apps that update all day from killing your battery but not gonna make that big of a difference unless you had alot of those apps....

I haven't yet. I've gone and reinstalled a bunch of my apps but I haven't determined if any of them were causing the issue. I'll go for a bit and let you know.

One thing worked for me- went to Settings --> Accounts and Sync and unchecked Background Data. I easily went from getting 4 to 5 hours (if I was lucky) to getting 15 hours unplugged and only down to 60% before I decided to plug it in again. I'm planning on leaving my phone unplugged until the battery is about to die so I can take a screenshot. I no longer have battery issues and can actually go about my day without worrying about finding a place to plug in.

I agree mobile 3g sucks most of the battery. But i cant see turning it off. Cuz then you have to turn it back on each time you use an internet program.

With auto sync on, what does it sync and how often?

I have good battery life anyways, but I'm willing to give this a try. My question is, what does it do? I can't find any options and I didn't really see a description of what it actually does.

Do you know how to be helpful? Are snooty comments your 'thing' ?

Some people need to feel important somehow I guess. Pretty pathetic :)

There should be a thank you button AND a **** you button to expose these snobs.
