Battery still sucks!

I have good battery life anyways, but I'm willing to give this a try. My question is, what does it do? I can't find any options and I didn't really see a description of what it actually does.

I would like to know what it does also.

hi, after a 4 month consideration, AT&T with iPhone 3g, or T-Mobile with Sidekick LX i chose the iPhone, i was really really happy with my choice until i noticed it has TERRIBLE battery life! At first i thought i was because of the 3g but then i switched back to edge and the battery life inproved but it still SUCKS COMPLETELY.

I really have no idea but everyoneI know that has it and every review says the same thing.

Dude you are the strangest poster on these threads. Always posting things that have nothing to do with the thread. Very Troll like behavior but not quite because it is all just so random like for web hits.

Precisely the issue I had, and (I hope this doesnt happen to you) I did the FDR. After each FDR the phone would sleep properly for 2 or maybe 3 days, afterwards it would be at 100% awake again. My phone would start re-booting nearly every time I opened navigator when this happened.

I never used that testing menu to try to determine what was awake, instead using system panel to monitor. It always showed android system as the highest. I went through this cycle several times, even ended up leaving the phone bare of any market apps but the problem persisted. Finally after the update the problem dissapeared.

Were you able to identify what was running the whole time?

Ok, so after i reinstalled most of my apps yesterday it started doing this again. I've gone back and uninstalled everything except the few i put back on it right after doing a FDR (when it was working yesterday). The only thing else I left on was swype. I restarted my phone this morning and i'm going to track it with just swype added. Then i'll go one app at a time until i figure it out. Maybe it still was related to the PRL update to 667.

Just FYI so far on my phone i am running stock ROM. Only apps. I've installed are:

Livestrong
Swype
Fring
Weather Channel

I bought my EVO 3 days ago and my battery life is pretty good. I left the phone off the charger last night. From 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. - my battery only dropped 20%. I have a Gmail and Exchange account set to push e-mail, a couple of widgets but not much else running in the background.

However, the battery life sucks during the day; being on youtube, surfing the web, making phone calls...not sure why battery sucks. :)

Since you are new, please see threads about cheap spare batteries on e-bay. Whole group of us here that no longer complain about battery. I use so heavily, I kill them in 4 hours all the time. But wife and me keep 4 spares charged all the time. No issues any more.

I still think the battery drain is because HTC and Sprint originally planned Evo with 2.2 release which reportedly uses less battery despite being faster. I'm sure running more efficiently on the OS will be a better solution than anything so far.

This is the best thing to do. I did this when my Hero had the same problems and I found out the culprit was a Task Killer I had installed.

I hadn't installed a task killer but i think it was definatly one of the apps. So far today my battery seems to be doing much better. the apps I have uninstalled are the following

DirecTV
Pandora
Nesoid Lite
Spades
IMDB
Epicurious
Big Oven
Yelp
Mint (i hadn't even logged back in)

I think that's it. Has anyone had any problems with the apps listed above?

Try taking the phone off the charge when it is the high 90s or just hit green. Do not let it go over 100 percent as it do not let it sit after its fully charged - I recommend take it off at about 98 percent. Tell me your results after one day. I did this by coincidence today and have four times the normal life after having the phone for a month.

I just don't understand how everyone is getting so horrible battery life. When I first got the Evo the battery life was pretty bad. I almost switched to the iPhone. It seems as if just as I thought that (I even went to the Apple store to check the iPhone out) the battery life just got great all of a sudden. I average about 10-16 hours every day depending on how much I text or browse the internet. Oh and I haven't really done anything to the phone. I do keep all my 4g, wifi, gps & other things off but when I am using them I still get almost 10 hours out of my phone. I also have the launch day batch.

Not sure about the others but Yelp has a notification service.

Slightly off-topic ... I bought my gf a used G1 the other day to get her prepped for Android when her T-Mobile contract is up next year. Yesterday, she told me, "The battery life on this thing is kind of crappy ... I took it off the charger at 5am, and when I got home from work at 2pm, it was down to 37%." I explained to her that only losing 63% of the battery in 9 hours was actually pretty good for an Android phone, especially with her playing with it like a new toy. She did not like that explanation.

It definitely takes a little getting used to, the lacking battery life of these superphones, but I did manage 32 hours the other day (could've gotten more if I'd let it go beyond 14%).

I'm not really having battery problems. The batteries seem to get better with repeated charge/discharge cycles. I don't use ATK, but I turn off GPS and 4G when I don't need them, and I use JuiceDefender. I use the phone heavily, and rarely have to charge during the day, not that it's a problem to do so. I have a pair of spare batteries from HK and can charge in my car, but again, I rarely need to. I just charge it at night, same as with my old CrackBerry 8830.

If you keep GPS, 4G, WiFi, 3G, etc. running all the time your battery will exhaust rapidly (duh). Using navigation sucks up power, but since I only do that in the car, the charger seems appropriate for that use.

Oh yeah, I did the "charge it turned off then charge it turned on" trick, and I don't have the rapid 20% drop after charging anymore. I sometimes charge on USB rather than AC overnight, but I can't tell that makes any difference.

Can you explain the charge trick, or supply a link to it? I just noticed this today, after barely any use I dropped 20% and haven't lost any more after 2 hours of use.

ok my battery life has drasitcally improved..

Somethings i noticed..

Apps like Facebook, Flicker,Footprints, Friend Stream, Peep and those freaking SPRINT aps....all seem to run on their own.. thus causing the battery life to be depleted.. I installed Task Manager and it working GREAT as far as saving the battery life.. the only thing i wish i could do is not make those apps come on period.. or even delete them..

But by disabling those apps, my battery life can def get me through most the day now..
