Help Battery sucks, help!

I have had my Desire since August (2011) and I am kind of sick of how quickly the battery goes. I am lucky if I get 9 hours out of it on minimal use. For instance today I have gone on facebook a handful of times, and sent and received about 10 texts. I have wi-fi and gps turned off. I do have sync on but that is about it. I don't have any task killers and it is on yellow after about 9 hours. The other day I was on facebook pretty heavily and texting and it only lasted about 3 and a half hours. This just seems weird to me. I have tried the battery calibration thing and I have not seen any difference. Any other suggestions or is this just the way this phone is? I like it otherwise but it is hard when I have to be out of my office for work and can't trust my phone to work much past 4 hours if God forbid I have to send a few emails.

Hi Olive,

A couple of questions before I "attempt" to help :p! Are you rooted? If so which ROM (if any) are you using? If you are rooting you can attempt to tweak your voltage/cpu usage by changing your kernel, but this is root/rom depending..

If you're unrooted, simple tricks include the following:

Keep your screen brightness dim.
Don't use live wallpapers.
Limit your GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi & 3g when they're not in use.
Change your sync intervals to be less frequent.
Fewer widgets.

If you go to Settings > About phone > Battery - this gives Battery Status, Battery Use, Battery Level, Up time and Awake time and breaks down the usage so you see what it eating most of your battery.

Some people swear by Task killers as well as other battery saving apps like Juice Defender - however I'd be reluctant to use these as they only offer tweaks which can be done in the settings etc.

Ultimately if you want to have a significantly increased battery life without making any substantial compromise, rooting may be your best option. Some custom roms are coupled with kernels which are tweaked to compliment these roms perfectly. Using a lightweight rom, on minimal use I can get 2 days use with not too much issue.
Something to keep in mind!

Actually I was going to attempt to root it tonight but I am not that well versed in technology so hopefully I won't blow my phone up.

All the guys here you read the "All Things root" stickys as everything you need to root is in there. The experts here have spent a lot of it time creating these and keeping them up to date and relevant Make sure you know what you're doing before attempting anything and just ask any questions you're not sure of.

Have fun!
