Help Battery usage since latest update,

My battery life has been cut 50% since last weeks update with no other changes made on my phone. Has anyone else experienced this ? Thanks,

Did you open up the blockbuster app and start messing around with that?

I know for me i did as soon as i got the update and in turn it kept trying to update the video library and it was killing my battery. thats about the only thing i can think of that would of changed from the last update.

So what did you do? Anyway to kill the blockbuster video ap? Thanks,Tony

There's an option in the blockbuster setting to quit it's constant updating. Forgot what the actual wording is. If that's that what your problem then is then I dont know. I'm guessing you didn't download any new apps since the update?

I found that setting and giving it a try. Thanks for help.

I have noticed this as well, battery life has gone down the tubes since this upgrade. I don't know if it is this Blockbuster app or not but I was going to just delete it but it wouldn't even let me.

Yes it's blockbuster and you can't remove it. You can go to applications found blockbuster and click force quit. Or you can go to application, click settings and chose cancel movie update service

Yes, I've experienced the same thing as well. Even after noticing the block buster app sucking away at my battery, fixed that, then I noticed that the Nova game was doing something in the background as well. I also noticed that one of my paid apps was having difficulty in its updates, so I disabled auto updates for it, but I am still having troubles with batter life. All this happened after the latest update. I worked long and hard prior to this to get the apps/programs to a point of me having decent battery life, and now that has seemed to have gone out the window with this update.

1. Sign back out of Gtalk
2. Make sure Enable always-on mobile data is unchecked
3. Check your Accounts & Syncs. Stocks are turned back on.
4. Disable all the options in the Blockbuster app.
5. If you don't use the stock News, News & Weather apps go into them and turn them off.

All of these above were turned back on after the update. It will help a little.

Is #1 something that you have to d/l? I cannot find it anywhere in applications, nor do I see it when I list out "Manage applications" or "Running Services" in Menu/Settings/Applications. I would think that if it is something that is a part of the OS, that it would be at least listed in the "Running Services" section. Please advise, as, I personally, have not been able to contain the excessive battery drain (since the update). All of the rest that you mentioned, I've already taken care of. Thanks.

Its just going to be listed as "Talk" inside the chat bubble.

He is right. If you are running an unrooted phone it should be under your all apps as "Talk". Go into it set the settings as do not auto login and sign out. That is if you don't use Gtalk.

Gtalk constantly checks for on and offline users in the background and has been known to be a battery drain since day one of launch. It is part of the OS.

A couple other things I did after the update to fix the issue because I couldn't contain it was this:

Thanks for that clarification. I didn't even show that as running when I listed out "Running Apps", so that shouldn't have been the culprit. On the outside chance it turns on does it's thing and then turns off, I got inside of it cleared all of the checkmarks relating to "automatic", signed out and forced it OFF. Thanks again for the clarification.

Battery problem, try this. - xda-developers
Thanks for those other suggestions, I had already accomplished all of those that applied to me.

Well, no matter what I do/have done, it all makes no difference. I'm still using the phone the same, but it runs down 2-3 times as fast. Very aggravating.

Posting this to be fair as well as for anyone who might benefit from it. For some reason, the first time I did a PRL update, it didn't take apparently. I always do a PRL update/check after any other updates, such as the one we just received, but apparently it did not take for some reason. I kept trying to put together what could be causing my battery life problem, and I just happened to decide to go in and check all of the updates again, and I noticed that my PRL version was off. I proceeded to update it and then did an "Update profile" afterwards and now my battery power/usage is exactly where it was prior to the latest update. Keep in mind, I DID do the PRL update, but for some reason it wasn't successful, so anyone still having difficulties may want to check that and make sure your PRL and your Profile are both updated. Hope this helps ya.
