Battery Usage

That's a new one on me, and I have a LOT of apps. What media-type apps do you have installed? Twonky Server? Umm... I can't think of anything else.

im trying to figure it out, but it is eating up the most percentage of my battery. i have been using slacker alot recently, but slacker has its own percentage of my battery usage, so this cant be part of that can it??

I run slacker a lot too but I don't know if the phone still includes slacker in its calculation of whatever "mediaserver" is or not. I listen to some other mp3s occassionally, but not enough to be in the 20-30% range (which is what my phone says also.)

My phone also says it's using 23% of it's battery for "phone idle" and 19% for "cell standby". That sounds like an awful lot of battery power for the phone to be sitting on the side of my desk all day...

Whatever. i mean, at the end of the day, I'm getting decent battery life out of this thing no matter what numbers show up in a "battery usage list". It's nowhere near what I got out of my blackberry, but it's acceptable for a smartphone with a much more powerful processor than the BB, plus wifi, GPS, and a much larger screen with capacitive touch. That being said, I'm still gonna watch this thread :)

my battery life is not bad either...but i want to know what something is when it is taking up the majority of my battery. I just want to know what the heck "mediaserver" is.

This is just a guess and I haven't tested it at all but it could be Slacker causing it. Mediaserver is in the list when I use the default music player or Pandora. It could be a general service that other programs use to actually play the music. It is possible that slacker has its own entry for its program specific stuff and then it calls mediaserver to play the music.

As a test you could charge your phone and then go a day or half a day without using Slacker and see if mediaserver is still using some battery power.

Keep in mind that the percentages you're seeing aren't of the 100% battery life. THose percentages are of the portion that's used.

So if you've used 50% of the battery, and 26% of it was on media serverthat doesn't mean it was half of your use.
