Help battery wipe

Hunterbeav

I have tried to do battery wipe twice and each time phone hangs on white evo screen on reboot, anyone else having this problem

Are you able to boot up normally under any other circumstances? Are you sure it's not just hanging on reboot for some other reason? Try clearing cache/dalvik, and reboot.

Thanks for help Akazabam, it reboots fine any other time, I did try clearing cache/dalvik both times and still hangs in white evo screen. Both times I have had to reinstall rom/and kernel with no problems with installation or boot up.:D

So to resolve the problem, you reflashed the ROM and kernel without wiping data, is that what you're saying? Are you able to do a normal reboot (Either turn the phone off, then back on, or select an option to reboot normally)? If it's not hanging then, what recovery image are you using? How long does the actual battery stats wipe take?

When I get hung in white screen I pull battery, wait like 2 or 3 mins reinstall battery boot into backup/recover, wipe data factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvic-cache then flash rom then select reboot system now. After it reboots I go back into backup/recover wipe cache, wipe dalvic-cache then flash kernel then select reboot system now. That always has worked to get me back up and running without a problem. Problem comes when I try to do battery wipe. I go to backup/recover wipe cache, wipe dalvik-cache, then go to wipe battery, then reboot system now, then it hangs in white evo screen. I do have to charge phone to 100% before doing battery wipe correct. I followed your battery wipe instrutions. Thanks

It's not going to get hung up at the splash screen if you don't charge to 100%, but it does defeat the purpose sort of if you don't charge it. My main question, though, is if you are able to reboot normally between flashing the kernel and wiping battery stats. Basically, once the phone is functional again, don't immediately boot into recovery to wipe batt stats. Just do a normal reboot and see if it still gets stuck. If not, something else is going on.

What recovery/version are you using?

It reboots fine before doing battery wipe. I tried it several times thinking the same thing you are that something was wrong with the kernel compatibility or something else. I'm using the clockworkmod v2.6.0.1 ( i read the article on not using the version 3.0 do to problems) don't make sense do it...lol

I love the combo I'm using right now Mikfroyo v4.3 with Netarchy CFS 4.3 more havs nosbc. Works great just wanted to do battery wipe to get the.... best of the best sir....thanks Akazabam

Ok, have you tried reflashing Clockwork? You can use ROM manager. You might need to flash RA (alternate recovery), then you should be able to flash Clockwork again. Sounds like there might be a problem with Clockwork.

Yep, same combo, here. Never had a problem wiping batt stats, but I use RA. Try reflashing CW like I suggested above. We'll take it from there if that doesn't help.

I do not have rom manager I have been using it from manual boot up. I have been trying to use only CW because I've read about problems and not being able to use both RA and then using CW. Or is it with using RA with rom manager I get so confused lol. I like to keep it simple.Could it be I'm just not doing it right.I'll tell ya how I'm doing it one more time ...ok..then you tell me if I'm flubbing my dub. I plug phone into charger till I get green light then I unplug and replug in until i get green again, I leave it plugged into power then power down and leave it plugged in until I get green again, I leave it plugged in and boot up into backup/recover, I then wipe cache, then wipe dalvic-cache, then wipe battery stats, then select reboot system now. I do this all while still plugged in. I have tried it by unplugging before doing last step and get same hang up in evo white screen. After doing battery wipe and reboot how long should it sit on white screen before completing boot up

I never leave it plugged in while wiping stats, but you say you tried it unplugged as well (which I would recommend), so that's apparently not the problem.

The decision to use either CW or RA is pure preference. The problems you may be referring to could be:

-RA nandroid backups are not compatible with CW backups and vice versa.
-RA is not fully compatible with ROM manager (it still have a few uses, though)

You can switch back and forth between the two with no problems. Just don't try to restore a nandroid made with one on the other. ROM manager is useful in that it is the easiest way to change your recovery image. You can also do it with a PC36IMG file, or a number of various alternatives.

Anway, what I normally do is:

-Charge the phone fully
-Unplug and turn the phone off
-Plug the phone in until the light turns green
-Unplug and repeat the last step
-Unplug the phone, and boot into recovery
-Wipe battery stats (phone has been unplugged since boot)
-I don't usually bother wiping dalvik cache. It sits at the splash screen for a normal amount of time. Usually about 15+ seconds.

Go ahead and install ROM manager. There is an option to flash an alternate recovery. Choose that, then scroll back up to flash CW again (should be version 2.6 still). Once that is done, try again. I think you might just have a problem with your current recovery image.

If that still doesn't work, flash RA recovery, and try with that.

Flash alternative recovery in rom manager is grayed out, not selectable

And the option to flash Clockwork at the top? Sometimes it doesn't pick up that you have a custom recovery at all when you first install it.
i selected top option and flashed cw recovery it now says current recovery 2.6.0.1 and latest recovery 2.6.0.1:D

There you go. That should have reflashed recovery. Try it now. If it doesn't work, try RA.

To be perfectly honest, it's sort of an urban legend that you *must* wipe battery stats. I think it may have helped when switching *from* a sbc kernel, but otherwise, if you're getting ok battery life without doing it, you're probably not going to notice a difference.

do you wipe cache before wiping battery stats
