Battery

Just ordered one of these from Ebay-
1
NEW 1800mAh Battery USB Charger Stand Holder 4 LG Motion 4G MS770 MetroPCS Phone | eBay
1800mah with an external charger for $23. This is not an extended battery and fits with the OEM back.
Should work out well for me since I have a pocket in my wallet to carry a spare.
Beats the $40 that Metro wants for just a stock battery, as long as the quality is decent.

Anybody who thinks they're gonna pack more energy density into the same physical size for more performance is ... expecting a lot.

I could see if LG was using the worst batteries out there, but... thats not to their best interest. They need to use at least a "decent" battery to avoid claims of poor performance, etc... giving their product a bad rep in the process.

My guess... 1700-1800mAh is what we're gonna see in that size package. I'd not mind getting a thicker battery, and a new back, because it would mean real power increases. But... the question remains.... will the on board charger handle the extra battery capacity without overheating? The charge current is all designed around the stock battery, and bigger capacities will have higher currents during high exhaustion charging.

Nothin' in life is free it seems.

Why wouldn't it handle the charge? I had another phone with 2600mah battery and cover. Never had any issues. Also current does not have to be that strong to charge the phone. You can charge it through USB but it's going to take you half a day.

Even with the stock battery the phone wants a high-current charger. If you plug in a standard 500ma charger it goes to slow charging mode, for full-rate rapid charging it needs more juice.

I don't know how well I could trust the quality of this battery or charger since it is a no name from China. However, quality aside that is some cool gear. I like the little stand thing. :D

Edit: The only reason I question no name brand China stuff is because I like to watch electronic engineers on youtube (Here and Here). Both of these engineers have taken apart Chinese chargers and they are normally crap that can potentially catch on fire. Here is one of the engineers review of a cheap Chinese power supply. However, he does review a decent quality Chinese power supply, so I guess you never know what you are going to get.

It didn't at first, then I got an update that allowed me to go into settings and put in the outlet voltage and it started displaying it.

I don't know if the free version displays the estimated mah or not as I've always had the paid version.

W, what is the actual name of that app? It doesn't turn up under "Battery Management" so I assume it's called something else.
Anyway got the Chinese battery today, I'll see how it works out. It's in the phone now.
