Help bbc iplayer, is it possible on a flytouch3?

Hi all

I have a flytouch3 which i have updated to Tim 4e because I was missing items in the market ..... more items are now showing up in the market, but not bbc iplayer .... is there anyway to get iplayer working on a flytouch3?

I am in the uk

Thanks in advance

Got this working yesterday. You can use the normal iplayer website using Skyfire Browser. Download Skyfire by googling "Skyfire apk" and install it using a memory stick and APK manager. TVcatchup.com will work, as will iplayer. I havnt had much luck with Skyfire 4 running, but 2.0.1.117857 seems fine. Im now going to try 3.1 as we speak. Sound Sync does seem out often tho.

Have tried 3.1, no luck with that as it asks to update video.

Hi newby,

The BBC iPlayer works fine on the FlyTouch III as long as you don't try full screen because that locks the whole thing up.

I would suggest using the Dolphin HD browser as it is more stable than the stock browser.

As for using SkyFire, I would advise against it because it intercepts your communication thereby making a mockery of any secure (https) connection you may try and establish, sharing all your intimate details with SkyFire and laying you open to identity theft, 'Man In The Middle' attacks and so forth.

Also, the latest version requires you to purchase a license and currently Market does not allow you to see, or buy, paid for apps.

Hope this helps...

the reason I'm using skyfire is because my dolphin wont run iplayer. If I select a programme, I am shown a big green arrow in the window. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Karl,

Did you ever try clicking the big green arrow?

If you did you will find Dolphin HD runs iPlayer perfectly just don't try full screening it as this will hang your tablet.

As for SkyFire, if you like the idea of identity theft or having all your viewing and browsing habits tracked by SkyFire (and whoever they sell your data to) that's fine.

That's curious because mine doesn't auto expand. What value is your User Agent set to?

the User Agent is set to "desktop" I couldnt get it to run in "android". the window just went blank and sat forever doing nothing.

Thanks

Karl.

Karl,

This is puzzling as it would appear we are doing exactly the same thing and getting very different resilts.

Could you humour me for a moment and post one of the URLs you are using so I can compare what happens on my tablet?

just this second tried this. tap green arrow, tap click to play, starts and auto fills screen.

BBC iPlayer - My Family: Series 11: Janey's Choice

sync is also badly out.

My flytouch may be more of a facepad tho, as it has a Piano black flat back (mouthful) 16gb single tf slot, it came in a white box that says superpad 2 on it. not that i expect it makes a difference as i think the hardware is identical.

see link below. this is not mine, but an identical product.

Thank you tbod

Apologies for the delay, have tried the url you posted and it plays Ok on mine sound 100% in sync with video.

The only difference I can see now is the firmware we are using. You are using Tim's 4e while I am using S0I's (which is based on Tim's 3).

I am unlikely to update my firmware to a newer version from Tim as he seems to be adding so many features I neither want nor need.

The only reason to flash s0I's firmware was for the excellent 3G support. I hope to be rolling my own firmware as soon as I get things set up...

So, do you fancy flashing with s0I's firmware?

I may give it a go. I can easily reinstall any apps back onto the pad i guess
my main priority will be to back up angry birds level, else the other half wont be impressed.

does everything else work ok under it? im also running a couple of titles using chainfire3D.

Which version do i try? is it revision 3. my screen is x600.

Thanks

Hi,

As I haven't used any of Tim's firmware I really can't say what does and doesn't work compared to the firmware I am (very happily) using, ie: s0I's firmware here.

Hi Karl,

Something did occur to me a little earlier, what add ons / plug ins (if any) do you have installed?

There is one called 'Froyo Full Screen' which, if installed, may be the cause of your problem...

Just a thought.

Regards
tbod

Tbod,

it has all Apps as included with Tim4e. Pretty sure it was expanding to full screen before i'd even added anything else. Other stuff installed by myself are Docs 2 go, angry birds rio, chainsaw3D.

It is indeed a puzzling thing. Maybe a difference in the 2 different flashes?

thanks

Karl

I don't use Tim's firmware, so am not sure of all the software included. Is Dolphin pre-installed or did you grab it from Market yourself?

If the former could you check to see which addons [if any] are included?

Regards
tbod

Angry Birds Rio is the best of the bunch in my opinion...

Dolphin HD was pre-installed in the firmware tbod, it played full screen on that version. I later updated to version 6 beta, by dl .apk, but it still does exactly the same thing. there are no extra add ons that I am aware of, i havnt installed any personally.

Yep, Rio is the best one, thats why its on there ;) I also have the original on my macbook pro, and seasons on my desire HD. all bases covered!

I am using Dolphin HD and iPlayer automatically opens in full screen with major lip sync problems. I can't see how to open files any other way. I have tried User Agent set to all options but can't find a working solution

mine does the same thing. tbod on here uses the Dolphin HD browser, an his plays without expanding. we discussed this for a while, but never really found out why they were behaving different.

Karl.

Hi Karl,

Just to reiterate, I use s0I's firmware [which, I think. is based on Tim v3] and this seems to be the biggest difference between my tablet, which can use the BBC iPlayer, and the rest of you who can't.

Going back to something I asked quite some time ago which remains unanswered.
Has anyone actually checked to see if the version of Dolphin HD included with his firmware has the 'Froyo Full Screen' add on installed and enabled by default?

Because, as I have stated many times, the BBC iPlayer will not run in full screen mode, it crashes the tablet.

tbod

I have just checked and Froyo Full Screen is not loaded. Interestingly iPlayer runs just fine, nice a smooth, just terrible Lip Sync! Wish I could find a way to run it in small screen. The uTube app runs in full screen just fine but uTube from the browser will not run at all.

Interesting, I have no lip sync problems at all, what version firmware are you running?

I'm not sure which bit of the spec is important but the details are as follows:

Model Number DISCO10
Android version 2.2-20110503
Kernal version 2.6.32.9
Build number FRF85B

From what I have seen this is the latest release but I may be wrong
