So will the Beats Audio only work with their line of headphones? Will it work with other brands? When Beats audio was first mentioned being on this phone with their ear plugs I was thinking the plugs came with the phone. Anyone have a clue?
The earbuds DO come with the phone. You can use any headphones with the phone but plugging Beats headphones in to the phone will automatically access a special beats audio profile. For example if you plug in beats headphones you will see a "beats activated" logo pop up and if you plug in other headphones nothing pops up but you can still hear the music.
I hear if you plug in the Beats earbuds in a Beats capable phone while playing "Beat it" while beating it....you'll get zapped into a 4th dimension.
Don't do it, it's a trap. You end up getting molested with Beat It playing in the background. Not cool!

audio engineer here.... don't buy the phones for beats. it is just a marketing ploy. if you want good ear buds, just poney up a bunch of cash for good IEMs.

Ditto. IMO for total price to performance ratio, the Klipsch s4 buds are best. There are a little better sounding buds, but you have to pay a lot more as well. My s4 buds sound as good as my 3X more expensive IEs ........
Added:
The one slight negative is the s4 buds are 18ohm and the IEs are 13ohm (lowest in the industry I think), so takes a little more juice to push them to same volume (battery life). A lot of folks buy buds with 20ohm or higher ratings and wonder why the volume is low. The wildest thing seeing people using cans (full size headphones = higher ohm ratings) with portable audio. Wild.
The "Beats" is definitely a gimmick. If I get the phone I'll probably post the headphones on E-bay. I'm sure some poor schmuck will see "OMG Beats earphones for $$$$" Who knows maybe I'll get 1/2 my money back on this phone....
Catch is, HTC eats more margin due to the Beats bundled in with the phone. Ouch.
There's no telling. I'm sure HTC told Monster that they'd benefit from the extra advertising, and that having their crappy merchandise inventory moved by the phone. Just think how many "Beats" headphones are going to move from the phone being sold alone.
I must admit though, I'm curious toseehear the difference between the beats earphones and any run of the mill earphones plugged into the phone.
The sad part is even if the earphones are outstanding plugged into the phone, it's all for naught if the battery life sucks so bad that you can't even get in a workout with the phone as your MP3 player because you're afraid the battery will run out before you get home from the gym.
I am a very musically oriented person so I know exactly what you mean TxGoat but at the same time I have to say it seems kinda silly/unrealistic of ANYONE who has done even a little research on this phone and knows they are going to be pushing it(meaning using it as an mp3 player, for work, and surfing the internet a lot at 4G LTE mind you) and not expect to get a spare battery for it. I mean don't get me wrong yes I definitely want the best battery life I can possibly have for this thing but I already know what I plan on doing with it so if am ok with spending $600 for this phone out of contract I think I can pony up $29-49(regular or extended) for an extra battery so I can abuse/enjoy my phone as much as i want to with little worry about if it's going to die on me. Everyone has a different point of view and that's fine but we all have a general idea of what will be great and what may be lacking with our potential new phones(Rezound,G-Nex, Razr) so why not be smart and prep for it.
I bet you that within the 1st week of the Rezound's release you'll see at least 2 threads about poor battery life....
LOL....AWESOME! That's one way to take some of the sting out of the price. As for me unless they sound incredibly bad I will be keeping mine since I have no ear buds at the moment. I have been thinking about getting some over the ear headphones but that's going to have to wait until I recover from buying this and of course Christmas is right around the corner so I'm gonna be broke for a while..lol.
I still keep looking at the Razr though, it just looks sexier than the Rezound. At this point, I think the GN is out of the running. ICS is about the only big feature it has over the Rezound and the Razr.
For some reason I just don't like the way the Razr looks at all. I mean spec wise it's a nice phone and I like the fact that it has kevlar on the back, but it just looks way to square to me and I know thin is in when it comes to phones but GEEZ! It looks sickly it's so thin. It doesn't look like it would fit comfortably in the hand. At least not my hands...lol. Now the second part of what I quoted I couldn't agree with you more on. The GN is a decent phone but the only reason people want it is for the OS. If it were going to be the ONLY phone with ICS then I could see that being as a big deal but to me(and I want to stress it's just my opinion) picking a phone that I know I wouldn't get if it didn't have that OS and knowing that it will only have that advantage for a few months just puts it out in the no go category for me. Not to mention no matter how good a new OS, when it's first released there will ALWAYS be bugs. Sometimes big ones sometimes small ones, but hopefully those bugs will be fixed by the time the Rezound is updated. Either way I'm sure I will be so caught up playing with my new toy I won't mind waiting a little.
