Help Beats Audio in Mono

imdickie

Newbie
I saw a similar thread in the SG2 area, but this is unique to Beats Audio. I really like the BA headphones that came with my Rezound. I am deaf in one ear and wondered if anyone knew of a way to get Beats Audio to go into a mono mode. I still have very good fidelity in my good ear, I just can't hear stereo separation.

Wow, you are certainly more knowledgeable about this than I am but if you are deaf in one ear then maybe the best experience would be to transcribe the music into mono with another application then just convert that to a file that was copied to the phone.

If I am wrong please excuse my ignorance. And let us know how it works out. We all take so much for granted. All the best.

I googled and came up with quite a few discussions. One solution that was suggested was to buy some headphones with a Mono/Stereo switch. Mono/stereo switch Headphones - CNET Reviews Granted that might hinder the Beats EQ setting. I don't think you're going to find a stereo/mono setting on the phone's native music player. It's funny but I remember seeing a switch like that on all my old walkmans...Yes I'm THAT old! :(

Yea, I am that old too. My high school graduation present was the first ever portable CD Player from Sony.

These are all good suggestions, ones that I've played out in my head. I wanted to keep the Beats Audio headset because the fidelity is pretty good and the in line mic works excellent. I also thought about using a stereo to mono inline filter, but I fear it would disable the mic feature. I don't really want to run a conversion on my music as it resides on a server for the rest of the family to enjoy using Subsonic and their own Android phones.

I believe there is an EQ program out there that can do this, but it needs root. So I guess I just wait for now.

If anyone has any other suggestions I'm all ears...well, half ears :)

op, didnt read the whole thread. My beats headphones only play in mono. If you want and havent found a fix, let me know, I will trade you.

Um that's pretty much impossible. If anything your phone/phones headphone jack is messed up.

I installed the trial of Power Amp which has the ability to do a mono mix on the fly. So far the sound is good and it has control of the audio DSP similar to Beats that allows me to adjust to my liking. It also allows me to use the Beats Audio headphones that came with the phone, which was my original goal.

But...

I'm not real keen on the interface and how it handles media. It doesn't recognize the .nomedia tag so it sees all the .wav files for ringtones, games, etc. It also does nothing to mix other sources like Subsonic, Rock Player, or Digitally Imported, all which I use quite frequently.

Alternately, I purchased these JBuds J3MS from Amazon which I will try out. That way I can use the Beats DSP, but I don't get to use the Beats headphones.

This monaural hearing of mine is a recent thing and it sucks. Everyone should treat their hearing as a gift and treasure it.

Thanks for the help.

Well lets see, it has worked with other headphones, so I guess its not the phone . So that would make it POSSIBLE

The chances that a defect in the headphones would make them work as mono is crazy. Each headphone is a seperate entity for them to somehow be crossed either at the plug or in the line somewhere and still work fine in mono without cutting in and out is highly unlikely. More likely you are mistaken.

I received my JBuds J3MS from Amazon yesterday and had a chance to use them when I went our running in the morning and on a few phone calls. So far I can say for the money these is the best wired monaural headset I've ever used. Good bass and with the Beats enhancement in the native media player I can get excellent fidelity all around.

On another note, I was surprised to find out that Beats only works with the native media player. I use Subsonic to stream my music catalog, Tune In Radio to listen to local stations, and Digitally Imported to get my groove on when I run. Beats does an excellent job, but it would have been really nice to have it work globally. I guess I'll have to wait until root an can use one of the EQ programs that can make changes to the DSP.

Use your Beats earphones on another device and see if it still sounds in Mono only. It might be the audio plug or maybe you don't have the headphones plugged in completely. As someone pointed out, it would be next to impossible for your headphones to receive a stereo signal and convert the signal into a mono output. Sounds like you have a connection issue between the phone, headphones, the two earbuds and possibly up to the space in between the two earpbuds ;)

The Beats and the earphones work well together. We have a thread out there somewhere that starts off "The Beats are a big gimmick that I don't want to pay extra for" pre-release. And then soon after the release the posts start "I'm actually impressed with the Beats EQ/Headphone combination". I'm just as guilty as the next guy when it came to underestimating the Beats setup..... :o
