Root Becoming a Dev

Ok. So I would like to know if there are any tips that a dev or someone can give me to get me started with compiling for (specifically the Optimus and Esteem) android phones.

I know a little bit about what I need, but how did you guys start? What mistakes should I look out for?

all i can to say is.. google is your friend... most issues you will come across have been addressed somewhere.. just takes time and patience to find the right answer.. and dont be afraid to ask questions.. i just jumped in.. there are many people here, on xda, and on cyanogenmod that are willing to help.

You could practice by makeing ROMs for the optimus since its pretty set and tough to brick to learn to dev then later work on the esteem but yeah there's plenty of guides on building roms, best of luck
