Benchmarking is a process of understanding what your phone is capable of. However, benchmarking isn't as accurate as one would like to think either. Due to the fact that benchmarking sends one chunk of data at a time, instead of pieces of chunks like a regular application would. However, it does give you an understanding of what's going on in your phone, and what can use upgrading if necessary.
As for the individual scores I CBF to explain what each one is (google FTW) but I will say that comparing your own to someone elses with similar clocks on their CPU and the same phone is a good way to know whether or not anything may/is going wrong with your phone, or if you need to buy a better (class 10) Micro SDHC card.
