Best 3rd party SMS app?

Which one do you guys prefer and why?
1.) Go SMS Pro
2.) Chomp SMS
3.) Handcent SMS

I've tried them all and they are all over complicated and add nothing special. The standard app is great apart from the one MASSIVE flaw in it.

When your phone is locked (you lock the phone to for many reasons, one being you don't want people looking at your private information and messages) the samsung app insists in waking up the screen and displaying your personal private message to anyone who can see your phone. Absolutely fantastic if you work in a private office and your girlfriend sends you a rude message /sarcasm.

I just don't understand the mentality of displaying messages in the notification bar, there should be an option to disable that functionality.

Ok I'm having an issue my girl has a galaxy 3s and I have a htc Evo 3d she is using the verizion messages app cause she only has use of one eye from an accident. Well the problem is when her text show up on my phone there's spaces in between every letter and it's bulky I can't download the verizon app cause my phone is virgin mobile is there any text messaging apps that will resolve this cause I don't want her to use the regular messaging but it's killing my eyes on my end thanks

the only quirk I dont like about the stock is it makes picture messages look like a 5 second video even if its from another galaxy s3

I'm looking for an sms app that handles groups. By that I mean that when I receive a text message that's also sent to others, my message lists everyone on the distribution and when I reply it goes to everyone. Go SMS Pro handles it sometimes, but not at other times. Handcent SMS requires you to download something that moves it from an individual into the group message. Also, the app must do this when communicating with iPhone's iMessage since we mostly text with family on iPhones. Any suggestions appreciated.

Go SMS Pro seems to work fine for me for group texts.

i prefer go sms, but i seem to be having trouble with text messages and keyboard issues in general. no matter which one i try, so i try to avoid texting.

I've used Handcent in the past but converted to GO SMS Pro. Haven't looked back since.

Yep. I used Handcent religiously until I found Go SMS. I love it. Customizable, Stable, Feature Rich (I have never had a problem with it on my GS3 Verizon)

The only thing that I am noticing, is even if I set the blink speed of my LED light when a message comes in, it only blinks for E-mail, NOT for SMS/MMS. Anyone else have this issue?

Either way, Go SMS hands down. (Go Launcher is also the best Home app as well. IMO)

I used to use GoSMS pretty religiously but I quite like the stock messager. The only thing I miss about GoSMS is the ability to customize the color of the LED notification. Having it set to a certain color for texts was surprisingly helpful.

The stock messenger would be fine if it did group messaging. Without group messaging its useless. I use handcent but im noticing on the S3 that it doesnt always lock the app when exiting. Its annoying that you can just click back on the app and your messages just appear with having to put in a code.

Iv been using Chomp and it was great, i created my own theme and then this morning i opened a text message and it made me aware that my 'add free' trail had ended, i now have advertisments under my messages which is a complete let down. I would go for one of the others!

Hope that helps :)

Been using Chomp since about the first day on my phone and BiteSMS when i was an iPhone user. Just can not beat the quick reply and quick compose option. I tried some of the others very briefly but found none of them had the quick compose option.

has anyone had a problem with GoSMS taking a while to load up texts? like having a group chat mine always ends up freezing up a bit and then getting the message?

I recommend GroupME from Skype. It has its own app that works over data but also works with SMS. Best part no one but the person setting up the group needs to sign up for it.

If u have bad eyes, Go Sms is great, especialy when drunk :)

My preferred SMS is GoSMS. Can't even tell you why at this point. I just remember trying Handscent and then switching back to the built in app, then trying Go and never looking back.

I use Lightflow, to blink different colors/rates for different things. The light version is free.

I used Handcent for a long time but decided to try Go SMS because it is more powerful (customizable), and have been using it for some time. The feature I wanted was the ability to have custom notification tones for specific people (both do this), but Go SMS has this weird idiosyncrasy that drives me nuts - my ringtones seem to be in a random order (not alphabetical when assigning them so I have to painstakingly look for each tone. Handcent sorts them alphabetically so it is easy to find a particular tone, if you know the name of it.

My fav for the past year was Pansi SMS. I still really like it but the wake locks draining the battery bothered me so I got rid of it. That and it wouldn't do MMS'ing at all. Annoying.

I guess I'm on the ugly-ass stock app now, but I do miss the quick notification pop ups.
