Help Best Backup App w/ no Root

SilverSVT

Newbie
I have no immediate plans to root, but still want to have a good backup app. I've heard Titanium is only for rooted phones, so that is why I ruled that out, maybe I am wrong though?

Any suggestions?

You are right titanium is only for rooted phones. MyBackup and MyBackup Pro support non-rooted phones but keep in mind your app data can not be backed up without root access so if you do a factory reset you will lose all that angry birds progress ;)

I'm more of a Stupid Zombie's or Greedy Spiders kinda guy anyway. :) Kinda sucks I'd lose my progress but in the grand scheme of things that woudl be the least of my concerns.

If I do eventually root, is it equal to Titanium or would most still recommend I swap at that time?

Thanks!

I personally like titanium and have used it since I rooted my OG Droid. MyBackup Root has the ability to save app data, I think the other MyBackup Pro does as well

will "my backup" restore data that titanium backed up? i want to put my saved progress onto my rezound.

App monster works great and it will help you tie all your apps back to market place and amazon for updates. I had to do a hard reset on my phone and the app monster worked perfect it has autoback mode for new apps that you add. it is also for rooted and non rooted phones.

well, my thunderbolt is rooted i can save my progress/data. my rezound isn't rooted. would you have a solution to put my saved data onto the rezound without rooting?

I don't think you will be able to easily. Not for most apps anyways. Some apps keep the saved data on the SD card (I believe andoku is one that does) for those you should be fine for others you either won't be able to restore or you could do the temp root that is out for the rezound and restore when you have root access, once you reboot root access will be gone but your data should still be there.

Edit: Here are the temp root instructions for the rezound.

since you lose root after a reboot, will you still be able to receive OTA updates?

Yes I wouldn't recommend uninstalling bloatware since that has prevented people from getting OTA updates in the past on other phones

Download Astro File Manager from the Market for free. It's the best. Yes it is a file manager but it does the backup function.
