Best Buy Details

The back looks very polished and slick. Does it have a metal feel or rubberized? Just trying to get an idea of how it feels. I realize its a dummy phone, but do you have a weight comparison, if you had to make a guess? By polished, I mean it doesn't look cheap.

Its exactly like the official phone except without life... sadly... it kinda felt a lil heavier than my droid x.

Its very sturdy in hand. Didn't feel cheap at all. I gotta say I was very impressed with the dummy phone really looking forward to the 28th. This should really be an interesting week.

Does it feel like the aluminum unibody that the Inspire 4G supposedly has?
the only part i can think even has that on the ThunderBolt is the body behind the battery cover and around the kickstand,

does it feel like plastic or a more premium phone?
I had heard that the battery cover does have the rubberish plastic feel

still can't wait for this phone, i'm curious to hear the sound quality from the srs speaker

I think there referring to the proposed L spectrum that Satellites use to use, we should be fine with Verizon since it uses the 700mhz spectrum aka, the former Analog TV frequency spectrum that could be picked up via TV antenna before the Digital TV transition

It really puts you in the mind of the droid x battery door. It has a nice grip. That was one of the things I was looking for as well. Hopefully the manager was right and its the same.

Well, if verizon has the tb before bb then they will be getting my money and I will be going back to bb and telling them to take there 50 dollar gift card and shove it. I am still thinking the 24th, but we will see in 5 days

This is precisely what will happen if they push it to the 28th. No free buyback program, no money for BB. They can shove my pre-order giftcard as well.

Thats what i'm hoping, i heard all the talk about the Inspire 4G and ThunderBolt both having the Unibody design but then the press release did not mention it at all, only the Inspire 4G's press release did.

if it feels like the Droid X battery door, thats definitely aluminum then, the only thing on Motorola phones that is metal it seems, even my RAZR when i got it had the same feel on the battery door, then when i got the Droid X (before i traded it to my friend for my Droid Incredible back :P) it felt like the same material. The Desire HD/ Inspire 4G are made from a single block of aluminum but it has a few design flaws because of that, its hard to access the battery and gives it a weird back look because the camera has to have a seperate piece that is added to the PCB so the aluminum had to be cut around it. anywho, i'm hoping its the unibody aluminum, it would make the phone that much more durable for my working environment i'm in

I'm still trying to figure out what the little circle nub is on the bottom that requires most of the cases to have a cutout for, i'm wondering if its the antenna

The gift card purchase as opposed to phone deposit was strange to me...is this what BB usually does with preorders?

Some other business tried to pull that with me before for a pre-order on something, can't remember what it was but it was about a year or so ago.

but in any case, its there way of guaranteed money even if you cancel your pre-order, plus they don't have any real way to make a deposit in the system to keep track other than a receipt and be able to pull up that same ticket in the future, so they put that deposit onto a gift card, plus not only does it guarantee them money, they also build up there gift card sales quota.

atleast it did for us when i worked at Circuit City, big difference from there though for pre-orders was, we took the deposit, you didn't get a gift card to put towards it to say you pre-ordered it and to use towards it. oh how i miss the good CC

Idk about BB but a good indicator that they will sell it for the 28th as well would be if they extend the buyback program til the 1st and if they change their ad. Tomorrow should tell alot about BB, but I will say that I was told they would get it before VZW and that they would prolly sell it first too. I asked about skype and there wasn't any word about it NEVER being available for the phone. If you recall from when the phone was first introduced the skype on the phone was a demo and not an app. I would think that all the it wont b ready in time for the launch talk was refering to this. You can't complain about something that not even on the phone. There is always oovoo, tango, ext. But I was never told skype would delay the phone. Then again I could be wrong though.

Did you get any accessories in? In particular the car mount

Lanyard attach point?

My reasoning on thinking its the antenna is because if the design is actually unibody aluminum, it would have to have access outside of the body to get a good signal, and since it is exposed on all the official cases (not the knock off chinese rip offs) its a good indicator, but again, it could just be a rubber nub that covers a screw that holds the phone's metal piece together around the kickstand, so its hard to say, but that wouldn't explain why it would be exposed on cutouts of cases when a case would keep the phone enclosed...

just speculation on that, i never got a real answer on it

I too would like to know this :) I'm hoping we get a desk dock this time too unlike the Incredible getting its canceled because it wouldn't go into landscape for Sense.

@PSYCHotIcJonny
When you get a working unit in, can you please check to see if it goes into Landscape when the phone is turned on its side, all the CES and Wirefly videos show it doesn't ... but i'm hoping its just the orientation widget thats keeping it locked into portrait mode

if not, i guess the XDA guys have there work cut out for them when the phone launches to get a custom ROM out to enable this since it has root (hopefully will work on the production model)

considering the Droid X dock should fit the ThunderBolt, i wonder if it would work... hmmm
i still have mine

and i'll shutup now lol

Could be an NFC button or maybe an external antenae connection. Nobody has said that I am aware of if the t bolt has NFC capability or not.

Whatever the reason, I made sure my el-cheapo eBay case did have the cutout in case it was important. :o A lot of the cases on there did not have the cutout.

yeah, thats what makes me wonder why there is one
if its NFC that would be pretty nifty

Seidio has it cut out on there cases too i believe
on my cheapo case i got for $2 (wanted to see how large it actually was) doesn't have the cutout, i do like how the cutout around the camera is seperate from the mic unlike the official cases where its joined... looks kinda cheesy looking

and now to wait for tomorrow's news regarding bestbuy's ad correction XD

I believe its gonna be like all the others when it comes to landscape mode. On the home screens it won't work but you can always use launcher pro. Would not recommend over sense. As far as apps running in landscape that's def a go. It will work like that.

I haven't gotten any word on the buy back, but I seriously doubt it'll be extended. We're still pushing/looking at a 24th-26th release apparently from what I've seen, so it's all in time for it anyway

Are you still selling it as soon as it gets in? or do you have to wait?

I stopped by local Best Buy today. The Mobile guy didn't have much info about TBolt but he did say we got full 4g in our area (SE Michigan). I just checked the updates maps here and he was right. cool! He also said, this was updated like 2 days ago. Nice!

Well sense is capable of Landscape, it works that way on the Desire Z but i guess since its a portrait phone it won't have it. My main reason for asking is because it has a kickstand i could view the home screen clock widget etc while it would be sitting on my desk... but there's other apps that would work too

no biggie i guess, but some people like the landscape support for the home screen

not really 100 percent sure what this means but I would think that its more proof that BB my really be releasing the phone This week. Sucks VZW will have to wait tile the 28. But hey atleast we are getting it soon. Maybe this will put alot of peoples mind at ease about some rumors. check the date and time of the screen shot. It live on BB website as of now.

Hey gang...

Looks like today's ads contain no retractions - at least those right from BB's website. Interesting that the ad for the xoom does say available in store on Feb 24., but no mention of that for the T-bolt. Go figure! :)
