Am I the only one that thinks that the commercial with the little girl is giving away the release date by measuring the distance of the lightning strike? Hence it will be released on the 24th.

Im not buying it. They had that same commercial out in spanish on the 8th i think it was. The commercial is too simple to mean anything more than "the storm is here"

Or as I mentioned before. 3-2-1 = March 21st. 3/21/11

The counting is in reference to the old tale that you can tell how close the lightning is to you by counting when you see the flash until you hear the thunder, hence 1 mississippi, 2 mississippi. And yes I was singing mi crooked letter crooked letter i in my head as I was typing. LMAO

I agree. When she counts to 3 the first time then 2 the second time it just means its getting closer. Then to only 1 the last time means its getting really close or the storm is pretty much right on top of you. It all depends on what VZW's idea of really close is.

I think they're teasing us and trying to get us in a frenzy (like we're not already!)

Hopefully thought, it means it's about to release!

How do you guys know the video doesn't actually mean they're planning to ship 3 units to Mississippi? ;) The counting down may simulate the units being sold lol.

No, it's clearly a countdown, starting with 3, then 2, then 1. The first round she counts to 3, the second she counts to 2, and the third she counts to 1. I could see it being 3 days from launch, but I could just as easily see it as meaning it's coming. And yes, it's something many of us did as kids to count the time between seeing lightening and hearing the thunder from that lightening strike to know how far away it is. As the time decreases, the storm is closer. So you know if the storm is moving in, or moving out. Each second was considered 1 mile away.

This is why I think the counting is relevant. She is counting wrong. You start at 1 Mississippi, then 2 and so on, each one representing a mile away.

She starts at 3, not 1.

Right which as pointed out is what you would probably expect in real life unless the storm is moving away from you. This storm is headed right at us but VZW Doppler Radar is broke at the moment and we will probably get hit by a category 5 with no warning. lol

At this rate, if it doesn't launch on the 24th, what are the chances that it will once again appear in Sunday's BB flyer? Maybe this time with a release date? I would be curious to see next week's ad.

HowStuffWorks "Can you calculate how far away lightning struck by how long it takes for the thunder to arrive?"

EDIT: Im not just trying to prove people wrong I promise. Im just kinda particular about wive's tales

I did not know that. And here I am in the city that used to be known as the lightning capital of the world. We used to count all the time growing up and to think all that time we were calculating erroneously.

So does that mean then that the Thunderbolt is less than a mile away from the stores?:D

Look gang...the only thing that counts here is accuracy. And on that note, didn't Jay say that he would close this thread by placing a thunderbolt in each forum member's hands?

Of course, there could be a chance I have that wrong. ;)

While we all continue the vigil...survey question: Verizon ads - playful marketing or pissing you off?
