Best Buy Details

I think vzw has 100 different emails and scenarios they send out to all their stores just to create drama and interest in the products... only the competition knows when its coming out, just ask at&t they will tell you.

I think AT&t are the ones spreading the rumors about it not coming out till late March. They were also the ones that told best buy to start taking pre-orders and to tell people the 14th. Jerks!

No way are you serious?

& I'd be pleasantly surprised if it came out President's Day weekend, and I'd be satisfied with the 24th. Any later than that and I'm just gonna go get a free DInc and that'll be my phone for the next 2 years. They really need to be more official about this whole release thing.

no, i wasn't serious... That would be funny though huh? lol
I was considering the DInc too until the lightning strikes. but at this point, it wouldnt surprised if it is still more than 14 days away and I would be stuck with the DInc. not that that is a bad thing.

Why would BB listen to at&t about a vzw lauch and when to take preorders? Im just sayin, that dont make since. Unless that was sarcasm.

I forgot sarcasm doesn't work over the internet... :B

But honestly yeah if it goes past the 24th then I might as well just go for the DInc. From what I've GOOGLED I won't even have 4g until 2013.

errrr....except that I was in a Verizon corp. store today and asked about our favorite non-launching phone and here is what they really, truly said to me: "Don't know when we're getting it, but we have been told that Best Buy will have it before us." This is absolutely what they said - granted it doesn't really add anything to our knowledge base...but I found it to be a first for me in all of this.

Sooooo....play nice....:o

I hear ya. I have wrote this before, but what does Best Buy have invested in the TBOLT? They did not spend the money at CES, they were not at CES, as far as I know it was VZW and HTC that announced it.

It is possible, that VZW intended to release on the 14th, hence that is why BB knew (pre-release info which they of course would have). BB decided to "leak" (employee or BB). Then something went wrong (I have heard everything from iPhone to Skype) thus had to push up the launch. Now again, we hear the 24th thru 28th?

IF BB was to release this on th 14th, BEFORE VZW, would you NOT think BB would have had them in hand? I highly doubt HTC said okay BB we will ship to you first, then VZW. I am 99% sure the units are COMING FROM VZW to BB.

I guess what I am saying someone is in the driver seat, yes? It is not BB or they would have released by now. My guess it is VZW, hence they are controlling the release date, and Best Buy keeps opening it's pie hole and making us ALL COMPLETEY INSANE.

and while we wait, this thread just keeps getting longer ... and longer :)

Thats what she said :P

but on another note, Android-Police posted a review of the Inspire 4G and it is plagued with the same issues that black_man_x tweeted about for the Thunderbolt having LTE hand off issues and they were fixing them thus delaying the phone.

it seems to be a logical reason

and another thing would be stock, last year when the Incredible launched they didn't anticipate the demand and quickly sold out, then the supply issues of the AMOLED screen came to light shortly after. If Verizon is paying attention this time around, there likely making sure they have enough units on hand for the launch, so if it is delayed until the 28th that could be another reason why, so they can build up inventory for a massive launch assault.

My Speculation, NOT FACT

so i just heard something new from my local verizon rep, and maybe this is old news, but it was a shock to me. first off, i prefaced with the fact that i was off-contract and was looking for the most advanced phone, which led her to ask, "are you talking about the thunderbolt?" she immediately said that they officially were allowed to go public with the the feb 24 launch date (this is near atlanta, fyi.) i asked why this wasn't published and she only speculated that it had to do with iphone sales.

after asking several questions about signal strength and 4g-related questions, she told me that on the 24th, the thunderbolt would be available, but would only run on the 3g cdma network until summer, when they would officially launch the mobile 4g lte network. this means that no matter where you are, the thunderbolt will only be 3g till some time this summer. she called it a "4g ready" phone, to be later upgraded to 4g.

did i miss this? i was under the impression that if you were in a 4g city, it worked at launch. i guess i was being overly optimistic...

lol. Well said - I agree 1000%. Yep, I don't for a minute believe that BB is in the driver's seat on the release of this phone - they are indeed at the mercy of who's releasing it to them. And for that reason, we know they didn't conjure up Feb. 14 on their own. Let's just hope that the "in stock" screen shots we've all seen now from BB insiders are based on something authoritative as well. Afterall, these dates must have a basis somewhere other than bored BB clerks playing release date roulette.

We will all know soon enough...or not. Until then, it makes us all believe that there's some forward momentum I guess with friendly discussion on the forum. But won't it be great when we get that first breaking post that says "I got it!!!" I think I'll use the lottery ticket strategy and visit every BB on the eastern seaboard this weekend. For those that have Monday off, you may be able to cover more ground. ;)

Everybody keeps forgetting... Amazon had 14 Feb posted as the launch day until the leaked memo from VZW came out saying the 14th was called off with no ETA, then Amazon pulled the whole ad. Now they have the ad back but no date or speculation. I'm just saying that it wasn't just Best Buy spreading the 14th and there was the leaked VZW doc that said 14 Feb.

I am going to say this one more last time, BEST BUY WILL NOT HAVE THIS PHONE BEFORE VERIZON. PERIOD!!!
I am pretty sure ;)

I saw that you got called out on this already, so I'll let it go (Or will I, since I just pointed it out:rolleyes:) You do this ONE MORE TIME and I'm getting a Mod. Wait... what's that red banner under your name say again?

Son of a... :p

I kid, of course :)

Two things: I'm in the camp that believes that BB MAY sell it before VZW. Not a week or two, but a day or two would NOT surprise me. This happened with the EVO Shift... Radio Shack had it on sale on the 7th and Sprint didn't have it until the 9th.

Second: I'm on the Eastern seaboard! Considering this was going to be MY President's day strategy as well, maybe we can carpool?

Heck, let's just charter a bus and do the BB T-bolt weekend tour with everyone interested. Any takers??? But just one warning...I don't want anyone giving up by like the third stop and saying something like, "Ah dang, let's just settle for an i*phone." :)

First I want to thank everyone who contributes to the forum with all the information and answering everyones questions.

I'm looking forward to the 24th. Is there even a reason to pre-order anymore? I'm hoping I can go in the morning and pick it up :o Also I plan on paying with BB GC. Can I also pay with reward zone gift certificates?

Verizon will have a ton of BB customers pissed that they lost out on the free buyback program.

OMG, now it all make sense why data prices will remain at $30 for Thunderbolt because well it only going to run 3G. Then Verizon will pull the stunt in summer that if you want 4G for your Thunderbolt, you will need to pay $XX (let's say $15) extra for 4G. Wow, what a bunch of crap. $45 or so for data only. No Way..

If Tbolt is running 3G at launch I AM NOT BUYING THIS PHONE.

This is coming from a person who was waiting for this phone since late November.

Edit: Thanks Yetsko for letting us know this.

Never heard that before. Maybe she was confused with the xoom, I know it will be 3g a launched and upgraded to 4g later.

Good thread, keeps me excited. Finally decided to join in on the fun.

I agree with the above. At least as solid speculation. I don't think enough consideration/discussion has been give to potential LTE network issues as a reason for a delay (if there has actually even been a "delay"). Building out an infrastructure for an entire 4G network and testing it is a much bigger deal (and expense) to VZW than the release date of their first 4G device. Screw up things with the network or not test and run scenarios carefully enough and you will have a botched launch. That could tarnish the entire "4G LTE" name/reputation. I'd certainly rather wait a few days or weeks extra to insure that I get some nice 4G data speeds the day of launch and a long time thereafter.
