Hey there jay - good luck on the writing gig!

If you have the choice of what to write for your first article, how about an interview with someone in authority at Verizon HQ??? You may be able to get them on the phone - and on the record about all of this. You can begin with some sort of non-threatening question like, how much more can you guys suck at launching a smartphone?

And I know that endless inquiry on release dates has yielded precious little we can count on...but fwiw, the staff at the stand-alone bb mobile shop inside my area mall both yesterday and today are sticking with tomorrow as the date for selling the Thunderbolt. They may be either ambitious or uninformed - will find out soon enough. But they haven't talked me into coming in and photographing their cabinetry yet! :)

lol.

Thanks, but I already wrote my first one, it's about T-Mobile. Should be up today, we'll see when it is and I'll post it for all to see.

i dont think its coming monday either, no dates, no real news. speculations are getting old and as far as i know the fedex guy who was on here has not said nothing about any shipments

Wait a sec.. you're telling me that for $10 / month they don't cover loss or theft of the phone? What if it was run over by a semi on Interstate 80? Would you have to get out of your car, run into traffic doing 75 MPH just to retrieve the ****er? That's weird. I'd rather pay the deductible and be protected completely. BTW, how much is the deductible with Asurion? The guy at BB told me it was $150 but I find that hard to believe.

I do too, now. But they were trying to talk me into the $10 one at BB saying no deductible, loaner phone etc. IIRC it was $79 from Asurion, right?

I'm pretty sure with my DI the insurance is $5.99 / month (I can look online but it's not much more.. maybe a buck) with the deductible covering loss, theft, damage, toilet bowl drop, (don't laugh it happened to me and the Asurion gal) for $79. I may be wrong.

I checked with my insurance guy and mine's covered under my existing homeowner's policy for full replacement value for loss, damage, theft, etc. $250 deductible and, if it's under $1,000, claims won't affect my premiums. Of course, I wouldn't want to turn in a claim every year.

EDIT: But, honestly, in 10 years of high-end phone-type ownership (started with the original Blackberry email device), I've never had a reason to file a claim. Here's hoping Murphy isn't listening :D

Verizon's (Assurion's) pricing looks like a good deal to me. I have:

Manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM)
Model STORM2
Deductible $50
Monthly Fee $5.99
Your program combines Asurion's Wireless Phone Protection ($4.99) and Verizon Wireless' Extended Warranty ($1.00).

Thunderbolt is as follows:

Total Equipment Coverage* Wireless Phone Protection** Extended Warranty
Monthly Fee $6.99 $5.18 1.99
Deductible $99.00 $99.00 N/A

I've been thinking (yikes)...once you appreciate how no BB on the planet has any T-bolt in stock and, at most, just pics and accessories, then what's up with that bb manager last night who supposedly told that dude he was leaning on a case of t-bolts at his store?? I mean if that actually happened, that's not even mildly clever - just comes off as kind of creepy. Again, if that actually occurred, I'd want to call that mgr. out on that - would make you wonder how else the staff at that store were entertaining themselves at your expense, wouldn't it?

Here's another thought...I have experienced some truly clever people on this forum. One thing for sure...there are people at HTC and Verizon who are beyond all the "We don't know anything" stuff, right? How about we make it a quest to get to the people in the know. I mean come on...what secret do you know at any system level that can actually be kept? Is Verizon really THAT good??? Unless, of course, the true answer is that this thing is so buggy...and so busy being tweaked...and so far off...that no one really does know?

Anyway, I like the idea of having some kind of thread here reserved for solid, carefully sourced info. No rumors. Wouldn't that be cool?? That's it. I'm going deep undercover. Anyone out there looking in from HTC..Verizon...pm me with something incredibly different. If I get something, I'm starting a new thread called - The Real Deal.

Secrest out.

Yeah, I work for Verizon, that's correct. No, I don't know anything about a release date yet, sorry. They just changed that Asurion BTW, about a month ago it was $7.99 monthly with an $89.00 deductible. The $5.99 monthly was for non smartphones, and the deductible was either $40 or $50, don't remember because I never sell non smart phones. If you have Asurion for a smartphone and its not $7.99, then you have the one that didn't include an extended warranty. I believe it was $6.00 monthly, still had an $89.00 deductible though.

I have no clue what's up with my cheap rate but I know it included the extended warranty bc I had to use it when my Storm 2's headphone jack stopped working correctly (rep advised me that I had it, I didn't even know).

Serious? Did you include that when you signed up or is it standard?

i heard (someone posted it in 1 of these threads) that its really bad to put your phone on your homeowners insurance because it can **** up your credit or your rates or something so i'd stay away from that

Apparently there's some sort of property insurance offerred to college students that will include cell phones. I think it's actually cheaper than going through Verizon. I don't know enough about it but my younger brothers had it.

I didn't ask for any riders specifically for the phone. I do have a rider for computing equipment that adds something like $50/year. If in doubt, call your insurance guy and ask about it. (no, I don't sell insurance).

IIRC, I asked him about this a couple of years ago because of a Lifehacker artcle.

Hasn't affected mine but, like I said, it's not the phone that's specifically on my insurance policy.

I guess I should call my insurance guy and find out if the reason my phone's covered is the "computing equipment" rider.

Interesting. I'm going to find out if that new pricing extends to past purchases or contracts. It's probably time to discontinue the insurance anyway since I'll be getting the TB when it comes out and I have a rooted Eris and DI as backup. If BB covered loss or theft it would be a no brainer with no deductible. But then I think in one year (if I needed to make a claim at the 1 year point) it would cost me $200 to replace the phone. The price goes up after that and down before that. I'm just not sure it's worth it with new phones coming out all the time, multiple lines varying in upgrade dates, etc.
