Best Buy screw up

Ok, so I'm trying to figure out why would people preorder from BB intead of just goint to At&T store. Only reason I see is BB credit card or gift cards. When I ordered the GN1 from BB, it came with a $50 gift card and a free flip case. This time? Nothing.

Anyway, I preordered the GN2 (At&T) from BB 2 weeks ago and when I called to see if it was in today (AT&T has it in stock) nobody had a clue as to when it would come in. So I said screw it and cancelled my preorder by returning the gift card they made me buy in order to secure the phone.

After that I went to the At&T store and they had 10 white but only 1 titanium left (there were 5 other people in line buying titanium version) and at the time of activation the rep said I wasn't elegible for the upgrade. What??!? It ended up being that BB wornfully linked the preorder to my account and used up my upgrade option. Thankfully At&T fixed the problem and now I'm on my way back to get it.

Best Buy sucks. End of story.

Anyone else with BB problems? Save yourself the trouble, at&t might still have a few GN2's in stock...

Not certain how it was a Best Buy screw up if you were getting it from them as an upgrade; of course they'd have to link it to your acct. Now if you were paying full price and they used your upgrade I could understand you saying they messed up.
As it stands, they didn't mess up anything or am I reading this wrong?

Best Buy doesn't seem to have screwed up my pre-order confirmation for pickup for 2morrow. I have checked upgrade eligibility at tons of online stores since pre-order and have had no problem.

DrEx get off the computer & take in some fresh air. Checking and checking and checking is gonna make you cross eyed!

It's $225 at BestBuy with a coupon code. Look on the first page of the forums.

;)

I talked about this deal with the BestBuy rep as well as the AT&T rep and they both said the promo code is legit but its a 3rd party subsidiary, not really BestBuy. So it's online only and the store would not honor the price. I dont trust online retailers unless its the actual BB website or a reputable seller like Amazon, etc...

The BestBuy rep himself apologized for the screw up, saying that it wasn't supposed to happen that way. When you preorder a phone, the only thing that does is hold the phone for you when it comes in, guaranteeing they will reserve one for you for 72hrs. At the time of preorder you're not signing a new contract, so the upgrade option should remain intact.

To fix this I had to go to a corporate AT&T store and have the store manager override the transaction and my account. On the plus side, I was able to get the full upgrade only 9 months into my 2 yr contract. Originally I was planning on using my 2nd line (out of contract) to get the phone but this way I still have the upgrade option for the near future if necessary.

Crazy...yeah, when you mentioned what happened my first thought was, whoever set up the pre-order screwed up.

Seems like it worked out for you anyway.
