I've changed my setup... Now using the Agenda widget (not Android Agenda Widget) on my homescreen: 4x1 widget showing 1 upcoming event at a time. And I have GTasks by Dato for my google tasks on another screen. Set up my windows laptop with rainlendar and now syncing on both.

I don't use that feature, but I think it's "supposed" to work. From the developer: "Option "Map address as link" is supposed to linkify the human readable address. It is a function served by the Google library, I just pass the string to this library. I do not know, why it does not work sometimes, I will investigate this problem."
I guess it's a fairly new app. Yeah, took me to the dialer too.... guess you got to call the zip code to see where it's at. :D

So I just tried Gemini Calendar as well (thanks tcat) and it looks nice, but the dealbreaker for me is that addresses within an event aren't clickable at all (only the zip code is, which takes you to the dialer, oddly enough). I rely on this to get where I'm going, so it's back to my beloved Touch Calendar for me.

I'm just migrating from Palm tx to android and have been looking at calendar options. I've never used google calendar and have some privacy issues with client appointments I keep on my personal calendar, so I have to figure that out. Also, if I must use google calendar, I might as well sync with my husband, who does use it, but need to keep the appointments private- I assume there's a way to do this. I really like the palm datebook and also used ScheduleUs before it went under. I found an app called CalendarScope which seems to sync with google to get to the android phones, and it seems to have a lot of what I've liked in the past, but I emailed them asking about tasks integrated with calendar, it wasn't clear. Does anyone have any experience with CalendarScope or ideas about my other issues? I like to have my calendar events in color-organized categories, as I have events that belong to each of my kids, my professional practice, various personal things, and my husband to keep track of.

Just purchased my first smart phone and relegated my sadly less than fully functional "Palm Zire 31" to the antique cabinet...

I have apparently been spoiled rotten from over a decade using palm devices... the BUILT in standalone calendar/task system which had sync enough available for every situation I have ever encountered without reliance on putting sensitive data where I have no control over it (something that would get me in huge trouble).

To that end is there anywhere a fully standalone, self contained, preferable keeping data on my SD card where I can access it (bonus if it is encrypted sqlite database because that is where my needs will be by the first of August) calendar app which can have the online cloud etc. removed or suitably disabled.

I need a reasonably sized note to be attached to most events (this is the sensitive bit that will cause problems being on someone else's server) as well, and so far I keep looking at the palm sitting discharged on my desk and trying to figure out a way resurrect it for less than the cost of a US bank bail out.

I need dates as far back as 1900 and as far forward as I can go with repeating capability (especially for the past events, many times this event will be entered from where it started and set to repeat until the end of time on the Palm system).

Linking an event to a contact (such as many third party apps on the Palm do with ease) is not a need but would sure make life easier.

Most of the other people I exchange events with are firmly stuck in the paper and pencil method when the palm option goes away and I refuse to do that unless absolutely necessary.

I thought that as technology marched forward we would see improvements, why then is the calendar and contact system on Android going back way before the first Palm Pilot actually made it into common public hands.

This is my only complaint so far.

DejaOffice +50 discovered moments ago.

PRO:
1) standalone or sync locally or sync remotely.
2) notes on events (no idea how large the note can be).
3) contacts on events.
4) repeating events.
5) easily entered dates.
6) private (not synced) records.
7) all in one notepad, task manager, calendar, contact manager (on steroids), etc.

CON:
1) not enough years forward or back (especially back).
2) no math on years like datebook has (have not seen that anywhere but datebook. enter a year in the title and when clicked it tells you how many years have elapsed).
3) export must be done manually by a root user copying the database.
4) no direct entry but since the years are limited anyway the pull down system works fine.

Going to try the pimlical (datebook) for Android in the hopes that it IS datebook as soon as I get the chance. Going out on a limb and from past history I would suspect it is awesome.

It is good, Will, but not quite there yet. What is needed is its own database, once we've got that it'll be everything you want.

I am moving away from palm for the first time and am realizing the transition will be painful. I was used to having outlook calendar, contacts, tasks, and memos sync with my palm.

I do NOT need google sync. So far I don't use google for anything and don't have a google account. I'll be using this solution to sync my outlook calendar and contacts with android: http://androidforums.com/android-applications/337012-we-can-now-synchronize-outlook-android-without-3rd-party-app-exchange-server.html

I've taken the palm interface for granted, but here are some features that I know that I will need:

- a widget (I guess that's the lingo) that shows my day's calendar and tasks. Perhaps this could be accomplished my having two separate widgets, I don't know.
- very easy to pick a date and schedule a mtg
- views that make it easy to see daily agenda, weekly, and monthly
- can set appts to reoccur twice a week, weekly for a set period, etc.
- I am used to being able to set a 15 min alarm on palm that will go off repeatedly until I turn it off
- I don't know enough to even know what I want in terms of synching. Since I'm synching hotmail with the android calendar, I think any of the calendars should be options for me??

I'd love to be able to sync with my outlook tasks somehow.

I've really liked the sound of Business Calendar. Does anyone have suggestions for how I can use that and have a screen that shows my day's calendar combined with some other widget for tasks? Calendar and tasks are my main uses for the phone day to day.

Thanks for any advice!

To me, that's the reason for Calengoo over Business Calendar. You get a calendar based date picker, like in Palm, whereas BC has the stock scroll-wheel based date picker.

As for syncing, I thought I'd stay away from from Google and use MyPhoneExplorer, but ended up deciding I liked Google. But you can learn about all the options at syncdroid.net.

I'm still trying to figure this out. I want palm-like calendar function. I am not using google calendar, so I'm not sure what my options are. I just downloaded Jorte, but I don't think it can work for my set-up.

I am using Outlook calendar linked to a hotmail exchange account that is synched with my android phone calendar. What calendar options do I have on the phone? I think Jorte requires google calendar.

If a calendar app says that it will sync with android calendar (as opposed to google calendar), will it work for me? If so I think options are Calengoo and Pocket Informant. (Will not work: Jorte, Business Calendar)

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

On exchange syncing: One option is Touchdown, which syncs directly with exchange, and has email, notes, the whole suite.

The other option is to set up the phone to sync the native calendar through exchange and then use your choice of calendar programs. For example, here is Calengoo's page on how to do that.

Thanks for the reply. I'm having trouble wrapping my head around this. I'm not sure whether Touchdown would work for me. I'm just using a hotmail account to sync my calendar and contacts from my Outlook to my android (tasks and notes cannot be synced to android using this strategy).

It seems like Calengoo could work, but I can't tell for sure. My goal is just to have a calendar that will be able to access the info I've synced to android using hotmail. I didn't see an option for a free trial from Calengoo.

Any other advice?

I'm hoping some other people will chime in but while we wait for them, I will suggest that you could e-mail the calengoo developer--he's very friendly and helpful, and would probably be able and willing to explain whether it can do what you want. Or you could go ahead and try touchdown, because it does have a free trial.

I'd love to get some advice still. I am striking out. I tried purchasing Calengoo tonight because I thought it would work. However, when I added an event to Calengoo, it did not appear via Hotmail active sync (and when I entered an item into Hotmail's calendar, it did not show up in Calengoo, even though it had been showing up in Android's calendar just fine). And, even worsem my Outlook now gives me an error message on server status for the hotmail calendar.

Bummer! Not only did Calengoo not work for this set up, but it's created a problem that I need to solve just to retain my active sync between the Android calendar and Hotmail/Outlook connector. UPDATE: The good news is that the server error is only occuring on one computer's Outlook - another computer in my house has Outlook and it's synching fine with the android calendar. So, I only need to solve one computer issue.

So, is anyone out there using the Hotmail Outlook Connecter/Active sync with Android Calendar? What calendar apps can work with this set up?? I've love some advice!

I don't use Jorte now, but there is an option to use Jorte calendar alone (not hooked up w/ GCal.) I'm not sure how that would sync, though; I didn't explore it further.

I haven't followed this issue closely, but another thread here, http://androidforums.com/android-ap...id-without-3rd-party-app-exchange-server.html , describes a freebie setup between active sync and android.

Since GCal's [nightmarish] "redesign" at the start of the month, I've been actively looking for another calendar/contacts solution besides the long-used Google Calendar. I still love Calengoo, but my issue is with Google itself

When I contacted Calengoo, they said that the problem could not have been caused by Calengoo - that it was a coincidence that the sync from that computer was broken after entering a calendar item to test Calengoo. So, I'm on my own there. I'm still not sure how to fix it. I may try creating a brand new hotmail account, moving my calendar items to it, deleting my old hotmail from outlook, and using the new account. I would think that should do the trick, but we'll see.

Tracey - Yes, the set up described on that thread is what I'm using. When I downloaded Jorte, my calendar items did not display within Jorte.

I'd still like to know... Is there anyone using a calendar app successfully who is using the hotmail connector to sync their outlook hotmail calendar to their phone?

If you have a tablet, Moxier is in a class of it's own. It's just a beautiful and perfectly functional app. It is actually called "Moxier Mail", but includes a calendar app, tasks and notes also.

It's a carefully thought-out app, commercial though and costs about 20$ (trial of 14 days available). But it's certainly worth it. It would be a good app on a desktop computer, which is quite an achievement, considering that Honeycomb has not been out that long. Works with Exchange, Hotmail and Google etc, but best with MS solutions (it's sort of an Outlook for Android).

Haven't tested the phone size version, but it does not look too bad either (see the link).

Includes well-thought out widgets too, for each app + startup icons as widgets.

Now if somebody would just make an office suite of this quality level. None of the current versions are worth s*$t - the writer apps are pretty much like Notepad, nothing more.

I love google calendar except it only lets me choose a notification for my "event reminder". I need a full song or something longer than a second or two so it I can use it as my alarm clock when I need to wake up for an event.

I've tried most of the ones listed in this poll. Anyone know if a way to do this? I guess an app was made for exactly what I want but it doesn't work. :(

I post my message also in this discussion:

I'm going to buy an android smartphone and i need to have info about calendar apps.
Now i'm using "Aquacalendar" on my symbian smartphone and i love it.

What i 'd like to have in my calendar app:
1) categories of events: each category may have different aspect (i.e different color, background color, different icon .. and so on)
2) templates of events when I add a new event
3) Month view with icons for any event

Does exist a calendar app with these features for android ???

thank you in advance fou your suggestions !!

what i'd like to see (in a widget preferably), which i don't think exists is a "month" view (that isn't really a month view) that always has the current week as the first row and then consecutive weeks under it, rather than just showing the current month

'cause i don't really care to see what events i had 3 weeks ago when it was the 1st of july, but i'd quite like to see what i've got coming up 3 weeks from now when it's august

Agenda is the best version of what your asking for. It just hides the days that have nothing. ;) Most calendar apps have Agenda view, alot of Agenda Widgets.

i do use calwidget for an agenda view, but it doesn't really give an at-a-glance idea of, say, do i have the next 4 weekends booked for something, or which day would be good for a particular new event

i wouldn't use it instead of an agenda widget, but in addition to

Hi guys,
this is my first post on this forum. I am looking to buy a android phone probably the htc sensation and i was wondering. I need a calender app and i love the pure grid calender from the youtube reviews. What i need in my calender is if i book an event i need the persons phone number in the event description. Now say i am near the event venue but cant find it i can go into my calender, then into my event and click on the phone number i entered and dial it instead of copying and pasting the number into my contacts. Can this be done in pure grid calender?
Hopfeully someone can help me out.
Much appreciated
King regards

I justs switched back to Business Calendar (from Gemini). Decided I like it better (although Gemini is much cooler looking). It seems to be similar to Pure Grid, and does what you want with phone numbers and addresses (just click on the map icon and will bring up directions).
