+1 for calendar pad. Its worked great for my wife and I. Plus we are sync'd up to each other Google calendar which helps tremendously

NO ROOT NEEDED!

Don't know if this is old news to anybody, but I couldn't find any information about it several days ago, so I'm posting this for anybody who hates the HTC calendar and wants the stock calendar that actually shows text on the 7-day (weekly) view.

Just download the apk and you have the stock calendar, no root necessary.

Read my post on this other thread for details, including one known (minor issue).

I use just the LP Launcher Pro widget for Calendar and it pops up my agenda. I dont mind it and I have tried Jorte, to S2, to business calendar and I cant get something that works for me, or makes me feel comfortable.

I haven't tried many calendar apps, but Jorte seems to be the one that I will use until something else comes along.

A ton of features, and I like the fact that it not only adds tasks, but also memos. Memos are not things I have to do, just things I want to know are happening.

well, I would recommend this new app called "Todayist" which I found yesterday. It's fast and supports google calendar quite well. I also like shedule St. by ELECOM since it gives me a lot of choice to customize its appearance. The best one among the above? Business Calendar with no doubt.

Does anyone who uses Calengoo know if you can customize personal notification sounds for individual notifications? I tried using Tasker, but it's not working as I want, and I'm looking for a calender I can have a certain notification sounds for work events, and different notification sounds for school.

I don't think so. As far as I can tell, under the Calengoo settings for reminders, you can use the default sound as set in your Android, select some sounds provided by Calengoo, or make a customized sound. But once you change it, that is the sound for all the reminders in all of the calendars. I don't think you can have different sounds for each type of calendar. But I am not a complete authority on Calengoo.

question about these calendar apps, I was just using the stock calendar app on my Droid, and my girlfriend using whatever comes with Sense on her thuderbolt:

I was cleaning up my girlfriend's google calendar, since her Thunderbolt/Sense added a bunch of birthday info to it that she didn't want. It was taking forever, so she said she could just add the important couple of events back in if I deleted everything. So I did... unfortunately, I forgot that I had given her permission to change events on MY calendar and google's silly system makes deleting her calendar also delete every past and future event on my calendar.

I turned off sync on both phones, pretty quick, so a bunch of the events are still in there, but I don't know what would happen if I turned on the sync on either phone. Would the online version overwrite what's on the phone(s)? Is there some way to export whatever is on my phone? How nice will that export/import be if I have a lot of recurring events? Will it have all my past events, too, or does the amount of data that android keeps in memory have limits?

Thanks for any info you guys have

Hi all... read all the posts and have a NEW question seems no one's asking! It may not be possible but I've been searching and searching for a good calender that syncs ONLY ONE WAY.

I share a Google Calendar with colleagues, so we all know of dates and events, but i'm trying to find a PERSONAL calender I can use for my own stuff, my own schedule, that when i enter an event IT WON'T SYNC back to the Google Calendar!

The only way seems to be to have 2 calendar apps! Does anyone know an app that can pull down sync info from Google Calender, but then all other entries are just kept local to the phone? :o)

Some others out there must be in the same situ! lol

Welcome to the forums!

I don't know about that one. Personally, I maintain public and personal calendars on Google, my private stuff stays private.

Unless you just don't want it on Google's servers for some reason...

Only way I can see is as you suggest - use 2 apps, don't sync one of them.

cheers - yes, that's what i do. just means entering lots of info twice!

no, nothing to do with not keeping stuff on googles servers lol, i don't want my personal calender getting mixed with work calendar, as 5 or 6 other people access that calendar too - it's a shared calendar.

ie - i'd like the events from that calender synced in a calendar alongside my own stuff which is only local to my phone, so i don't need two caldendars.

Should say i downloaded pretty much all the calendar apps mentioned here (Jorte etc), and none of them have settings where you can turn off 'updating sync' :o(

i have a motoblur, you can only turn sync on or off - you can't somehow have it sync to google calendar to download and then not to upload events. it only works two way. are you saying you can set the HTC to be one way traffic sync traffic?

No, sorry to be unclear - I thought the need was to have the calendar completely private, hence no syncing at all.

Agreed - any sync is a two-way street, by def'n.

thought i'd try syching two google calendars but bloody android phones, won't let me even have more than 1 google mail account! me thinks an i-phone would be better! lol

motoblur, I use Business Calendar (Pro). When I'm on the "Calendars" setting screen, the calendars are divided into "Favorites" (all the gmail calendars that I created (I have multiple for a particular gmail account) except one) and "Other Calendars". One of the calendars under "Other Calendars" is "My Calendar (local). I can select it (events) to be viewed/displayed on the Business Calendar agenda view or monthly/weekly/daily view as well as the events for the other calendars. Since this is tagged as a local calendar and not my primary gmail calendar, I believe any events assigned to it remains local to my phone. I can then go into the "Settings" screen and under "Setting for New Events" assign "My Calendar (local)" to be the default calendar for the standard calendar preference of a new event. I believe this resolves your issue for a single calendar app solution. If you don't have this calendar, you may want to try the free version (Business Calendar Free) to see if you can access a My Calendar (local) and see if it not syncing at all with your primary gmail account.

thanks, but sadly that doesn't help as my android simply won't let me add another google calender.

been reading on other forums that this is a MASSIVE issue for many, especially for business and that many dumping their android phones because of it. i can't believe google simply haven't fixed this. i've seen postings going back 3 years!!!

No wonder T-Mobile etc are giving these phones away for free, they simply don't work as a Smart Phone should, fine if all you want to do is make calls.

FOR ANYONE READING THIS - DO NOT BUY A MOTOBLUR, you cannot add more than one account, ie - can't sync multiple calenders, docs, contacts etc - SO USELESS FOR WORK / BUSINESS USE. Get a Blackberry, as most people I know have! Why did I go for a Android!!!??/ Arrhghhhh

Well, what I do is have multiple Google calendars, instead of using 'categories' in one calendar, treat each calendar as a category. You can share or not share a calendar. Make a calendar (do this in Google calendar, not on your phone) and call it Personal, or Private, whatever you want to call it, and then just don't share it. Won't that work for you? I agree Google calendar is difficult, but there are ways around it.

Hi, yes could do that - but i'd like it on my phone, no point in having to access multiple google calendars on my laptop. a smart phone should be able to sync them, but seems many androids can't and only some can.

anyway found a way round it eventually! SO FOR ANYONE IN THIS SITUATION...

Seems "Jorte" is a very good calendar app that you can set up as local only, not synced with Google calendars, so you have a personal calendar on your phone but then in it's settings you can manually IMPORT (ie - not sync up) all events from your synced Google calendar.

ie - importing means the data is one way, so all your personal entires / events won't get synced/published to the work colleagues shared google calendar!

Bit of a pain, but it works.... :o)

+1 for Jorte

I've been looking through a number of the free calendar apps and was unable to find what I wanted, a cross between a full calendar (in app mode) and a variety of widgets.

But I also wanted some decent looking calendar/agenda apps/widgets that were easily readable. Jorte is winning. Even the apps with 'pro' versions weren't that good and I refuse to pay for an app when the free version isn't that good.

So I'd definitely recommend Jorte, just a shame the developer hasn't done more productivity apps.

Can anyone help me? I am trying to find a better solution for my calendaring (is that even a word) needs.

I am currently using a cocktail of

Calendar Pad

Smooth Calendar

and

Quick Addroid
by Andreas Streim

Free

My needs are quite specific, and even that combination does not quite cut it. I don't mind installing as many apps as needed, although the fewer the better. I also don't mind paying, but have held off buying any of the paid apps as I am unsure if they are good enough and don't want to pay for something that is not suitable.

I am a bus driver, and I want to enter my shifts into the calendar, so that I can see at a glance what I have to do AND share it with my wife so she can see what I am doing.

Ideally I would be able to set start AND finish locations, but as I don't believe this feature is available in Google Calendars itself, I can forgo it and just use my own shorthand, like A-Z to represent start and finish locations. Also, because each duty we have is different, a fire department style shift calendar is useless (we have over 500 different duties in total).

I need to be able to quickly enter into the calendar the Date, Duty Number (Title), Start and Finish times and possibly location (depending on how location is displayed)...

Currently Quick Addroid fills this roll, for example for Duty 327, starting at 06:06 at YW and finishing at 14:47 at SQ, on the 25/05/2011 I just enter title@location,date,time
  • 327@YW/SQ,25.05,06.06-14.47 (with Location)
  • 327 - YW/SQ,25.05,06.06-14.47 (Without Location)

Likes
  • Quick text input
  • No need to specify month/year (will use current year/month if not specified)
  • Can enter start time, time span or no time (treated as all day event)

Dislikes
  • Cannot enter date range
  • Cannot set reminder
  • would rather enter date/time without punctuation (25.05.2011 becomes 25052011)

On the actual calendar side of things, I have tried several, and for the time being settled on Calendar Pad.

Likes
  • Scrolling 7 day view style with current month in bottom corner
  • Ability to change week start day (I need to start my weeks on a Sunday)
  • Use of 24hr clock
  • Pop-up day view

Dislikes
  • 7 day view does not show end time
  • Month view scroll is not fluid (cannot stop screen on half of 1 month and half of the next)
  • Cannot directly edit events, links to outside application.
  • Widgets are not scrollable (not major I suppose)
  • 3x and 4x Widgets need agenda style option, Hence using Smooth Calendar

And as far as the home screen widget is concerned, Smooth Calendar is a great...

Likes
  • Shows date, time, title &c. all on one line (space permitting, greta with abbreviations though)
  • Uses a monospaced font so everything lines up
  • Lots of customisation, color, bold, italic
  • Allows direct opening of selected calendar application

Dislikes
  • Only 4x1, needs a 4x2 option at least, if not 4x3 and 4x4 too.
  • When date set to show only once per day, next line of text does not indent, ie...
    • 25/05 12:00 item 1
    • 25/05 13:00 item 2
    becomes
    • 25/05 12:00 item 1
    • 13:00 item 2

So, ideally what I am looking for is a Calendar App or group of apps that...

  • Allows for quick entry (text string) of
    • Date or date range (using current month/year if left blank)
    • Start time, time span or all day (preferably by leaving blank)
    • Title
    • Location
    • Reminders
  • Has Week, Month (and possibly fortnight) views in a Calendar Pad (Jorte) style, but showing end times
  • Has a good selection of (preferably scrollable) widgets, including but not limited to
    • 4x1, 4x2, 4x3 & 4x4 Agenda (indenting further events on same date if only one date shown)
    • 4x2, 4x3, 4x4 Week/Fortnight/Month views

Can anyone suggest anything?
