Best camera app?

fwiw - my buddy told us about a year later, as we were looking through his wedding album (no, we didn't expect to see the pee-picture, but it did open the conversation) and he told us "man, some dumbass took a picture of himself peeing on one of the cameras"

bwahahah.... we cried we laughed so hard and we fessed up. He said even the one hour photo place made a comment about it.

Good times in our youth.

All those apps suck! The lag ruins every photo. Want proper pictures? Use a proper camera and look through a real viewfinder. Not at arm's length. It's the only way to 1) really snap quick pictures, 2) get more or less stable, focused, images, 3) see details while you're composing.

Never use a screwdriver to hammer in a nail! Use proper, appropriate tools! Use a nice, real camera to shoot nice, real images. Camera phones are just toy cameras. And it's painfully obvious.

When you go on holiday to a tropical island you don't go on your bicycle either, do you?

Camera phones are convenient for emergencies. Like for capturing the traffic situation and the damage after you had a collision, etc. But you will never get a 'pretty' picture out of it.

I've seen brilliant pictures taken with phones, or even the most low end point and shoot cameras, and I have seen photos that are awful in every aspect taken with high end professional cameras.

It's not the tool that is lacking, but the user.

I just sold my wife's iPhone 4 and got her an Evo. She seemed OK, not too impressed, with it until she tried the camera. Then she wanted to kill me. The lag ridiculously, painfully ruins every photo she tries to take (of kids, baby, pets, etc). The phone captures NOT the moment she intended, but a second or two later. Absolutely ridiculous.

I would appreciate it if anyone found a solution to this.

P.S. Forget the iPhone 4. My $30 ancient piece of crap phone (before it died) was instantaneous, and took better pictures.

Incidental extremes are hardly indicative of the average, let alone of the overwhelming majority.

It is not either/or. It is of course both. Plus the situation.

I am using SnapPhotoLite. It's pretty good, except that it doesn't have zoom! Big annoyance. Also, if you have the "Stability detection" turned on, the camera won't take a photo unless you are really still or there is good lighting. I have shaky hands, so I had to turn this option off. you will see an app called PicSay about which everyone raves as an android photo editing app. I noticed in the user agreement that they will monitor various things on your phone, which is why the app says it needs internet access.

I downloaded PicSay also, but deleted it after reading the user agreement also. The most intrusive app I've seen so far.

Great discussion on a classic topic :D I have done some serious photography with my Sony Ericsson K750 back in college (when I couln't afford a camera ;) ) , some people still do not believe some of the pictures were actually taken by that phone. Anyway, having a camera is always a good thing. So has anyone found any better camera app than the ones discussed here?

we've been working for the past year on a new camera app called Pecan. it's going to go live in android marketplace in the next week or two (by end of april 2011) and i'd love to hear any feedback from users who are looking for new camera apps.

i'll send a message to the forum when the app is live, but in the meanwhile you can see some screenshots on our website, here: http://projectpecan.com

thanks!

What would you say sets your app apart from the other camera apps that are out there?

I'm pretty interested in the auto upload function, I assume it will send all new photos to facebook without me having to "share" them?
Would it be possible to substitute facebook for animage hosting service such as picasa, flickr or put photobucket?

Also, my phone has a 12.2 mega pixel camera, will your app be able to take advantage of that resolution fully?

thanks for the reply! we're starting with three things that set Pecan apart from other apps.
first, it's a fully integrated camera experience, which means both the shooting mode and the photo preview mode are handled by the app. that means that you can do clever things like see which photos have been uploaded to facebook, move from preview to shoot mode easily, and more.

second, we support auto-upload (with or without delay), so you can just choose which facebook album you want to upload to (or create a new facebook album straight from the phone), and then upload the photos automatically. we're a small team so we decided to focus on facebook at this stage (given that they're the world's #1 photo sharing website now).

third, we let users manage photos in albums and add tags that can be automatically uploaded to facebook, too. no other app let users manage different photo albums right now.

about the 12.2 mpex camera, i think that facebook does compress photos so it might not display the full resolution. when we support in future other services like Dropbox, full resolution would be supported too.

looking forward to hearing your feedback once Pecan goes live!

This got a review on a photo site. Nokia does put out a decent camera. My 5mp Nokia C6 was way better than this one on the Galaxy. Plus it did have a flash.
Of course, not dealing with Nokia/Ovi is a bigger plus, and I have a bridge camera and a DSLR.

Since Sony makes cameras, I wouldn't be surprised to find a good camera on their phones.

Pecan looks interesting, but Facebook isn't. I'd like the settings menu to be more available.

Introducing the Nokia N8

Take amazing photos and videos, connect to your favourite social networks and be entertained with the latest Web TV programs and Ovi Store apps.

The Nokia N8 introduces a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and Xenon flash, HD-quality video recording, film editing software and Dolby surround sound. All in a beautiful, aluminium design.

What will you do with it? nokia.com/n8

Thanks for the response, your app would also keep a copy of the photos on the sd card I assume? Would they be in full resolution or would they be compressed?

Id love to beta test it!!

Waiting for an app that has the post production quality of the iPhone 4 as well. It really blows the droid out of the water in picture quality and speed. Thats the only area where the Droid is no where close to IOS phones on.

Camera Fun free/pro is a fun little camera app. I really like that it can take a "sketch" photo.

I rarely use a phone camera. Although I have film and digital slr's, I find it so inconvenient to pack all that equipment. I usually carry and use a Canon digital point and shoot. It is a few years old and doesn't even have image stabilization. I have taken some very decent photos using a few easy techniques, eg. bracing camera wherever possible, not using flash whenever possible, using flash on bright days to reduce harsh shadows, using slow sync if flash is necessary, learning to adjust exposure compensation to bracket exposures, figure out which zoom setting is the clearest (usually the widest end) and then zoom by using my feet. I am not going to sell any photos, but the picture quality is almost as good as if I had used a dSLR. I take a lot of photos and I don't bother with post production.

I tried vignette just now. Has lots of options but none about how to take the picture.

Seems to still just be a case of push the botton and then guess when you think its actually going to snap the image in front of you. Is the long delay just on the desire HD or common to all android devices?
My phone will wait until I release the "take picture" button.

Camera 360 pro is a very good camera app with HDR and a host of other effects. By far the best one I've tried.

Hi, new here. Am looking for a camera fone app that allows me to save files in raw format or DNG or at least tiff. anybody know of such an app. ( yes if have searched this forum , but currently nothing has showed up.)

Hello

I've had my Desire S for a couple of weeks. Took some photos with it recently but there seems to be a lot of JPG compression, presumably to keep the filesize small.

My 6 year old Sony camera is 7.1MP and gives a pretty consistent file size of around 3.5MB per picture, so I was assuming a resolution of 5MP would result in 2.5MB or thereabouts. But the photos are coming out at with a large range of 750Kb to 1.75MB.

Pixel size is correct, but I can't find any settings on the app to change the quality: this website shows a 'quality' setting on a previous Desire model, but I can't find it on mine. Am I just being daft, or is it no longer there?

Alternatively, are there any cameras apps that concentrate purely on the jpg quality, without bells and whistles of special effects etc? I can do them on my computer later.

Thanks in advance

Gary.

Vignette cuts the view about 1/2 on Desire Z/2.3.3/CM7

Any other alterantives? Tried Camera 360 Pro but it cant shoot video and I think doesnt support the full resolution.

I would also like to beta test if you are still looking, although you might be ready to release soon......However...... A simple request, I would like the option of date stamping my photos as well as saving them to SD with a date instead of a sequential IMG#

Yes, it is a similar story on my Incredible S with an 8MP camera - very small pictures, and therefore not great quality once viewed on a bigger screen. Are there any camera apps, preferably free, that don't compress the JPEGs much, ie use the camera's sensor to take the photos, but do all the processing themselves, rather than use HTC's over-compressed processing.

Cheers.
