Best case for note 2?

I didn't want to make a double-post for this particular topic which I have already created over at XDA Dev forum (unfortunately, I have registered in there awhile ago under "vectron" and forgot about it, so now post under different names across two forums). But I thought you guys might find it useful and definitely would appreciate it considering it's not just something you see in the picture or take someone else word for it. I got both of these cases in my hands, and its identical to original Defender, while Survivor wasn't even released for N2 and they just made a scaled up copy based on S3 - but I can compare it to my original Survivor for iPod Touch and confirm the quality to be identical as well. Both cases are of a very impressive quality, and it will be almost next to impossible to tell Defender apart ;)

So, enjoy the reading/review and as usual - a lot of pictures :)

Nice. Looking at the Defender holster, if I actually used a case on a daily basis, I bet that holster could be converted for use as a vehicle dock! Of course, it'd have to be used with a Prodock mounting board or some other type of base, but that's pretty cool. Definitely not what I like to use for my phone, but great review nontheless.

The funny part, people were replying and PMing me with a doubt about "fake" Defender, saying its a real case and there is no way its a knock off. Nobody can argue with Survivor since it hasn't been made for Note 2, but Defender is so damn close, down to the booklet insert. I don't have use for either of these cases since those are too bulky, but I'm still keeping it because I just ordered 6500 mAh battery which is twice as thick, and have seen a lot of people modding their Defender cases by cutting out back of the plastic inner shell and sliding on outer rubber shell to fit it perfectly. The only thing, that 6500 mAh battery is $6 version with battery cover and NFC and some posted about its inferior quality. But for the sake of science lol!!! i have to check it out, although not holding my breath about quality of those cheap battery cells...

Retired my Thunderbolt yesterday and got into a GN2. Bought a Defender at lunch today. Took me about 10 minutes to realize the screen protector had to go. Tore it out and I like the defender now. Zero problems with the buttons. Solid and makes it easier to grip than stock GN2.

With every case I have now, UAG is still my case of choice :) Plus, i even added Seidio CONVERT holster to it and seriously thinking about carrying it on belt clip once it gets warmer outside and winter jacket is off. Unlike Defender brick, this is probably the only combo of case/holster that will look cool :D

Regarding headphone opening, its huge to begin with, but there is a chance you might find a pair of quality cans with a connector that won't fit. Why don't you just dremel it bigger, or just take a tip of a sharp knife and scrape a layer off from inside of the opening? It's hard TPU, should be OK. Just be careful with a side facing the front of the phone since it's a bit thinner.

That UAG is one UGLY case!!! :D

LOLOLOLOL!!!!!

No edit here..... it IS ugly!

Hey, I thought we're done with "your momma" jokes? :D

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I guess too many people drank UAG cool-aid, and as result those cases were sold out within first hour of its introduction, then ended up with a month on back order ;)

For what it's worth, I have/had Commuter/Defender/UAG/Seidio/Ballistic/Case-Mate/Trident/Samsung Flip/and half a dozen of ebay cases (http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...2-master-accessories-list-12.html#post5554148). As an overall value of the weight, protection, quality and design - it stands a head above everything else. Just my humble opinion :thumb:

Selling out within hours just means a lot of people like ugly. :D
To each his/her own. There's something out there for everyone.

Can you explain why? because I might have to join the que and order one  on your reccomendation of course

maybe, but I doubt it. This looks like a brand new patent. The company had their patent back in 2005 I believe. A whole year before Apple did theirs in 2006. So if Google bought the companys' patent wouldn't the article state it?

Good find, btw.

Yeah, that's true. Or, I wonder if that company will end up trying to block Google's patent attempt or maybe the difference between it being integrated with the phone and integrated with a case will make it a moot point.

It will be a moot point. theirs only works with a full size usb port and the movements are a bit different from what I can see when using the trackpad. Now between the Apple version and the Google version, there may be a issue and could be another lawsuit.

Always a matter of personal opinion. I mean, I don't get a case just because its popular. Also, for example if you are comparing UAG, Case-Mate Tough/Pop!, and Aegis, I wrote this comparison at XDA Forum (in there I'm at "vectron"): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38572203

There is no such thing as a perfect case. Each one will have its pluses and minuses. The problem, it's hard to judge every case by looking at pictures or even reading other's reviews. Those will help you narrow it down, but still the best way to make a final decision is by trying out those you narrowed down yourself. Otterbox being one of the most popular brands, guarantee it's availability at Verizon, Sprint, or Best Buy stores where you can test it out on a phone. But with other cases you have to order them in order to test it out and to compare.

If you really would like to hear my opinion about Commuter versus UAG, I didn't like Commuter slippery back and how it slides on a smooth surface when placed back down. I have my phone at work and at home on the back on the table and tend to bump it with my elbow. If there is no friction, it will slide across the table. UAG has little rubber feet. Plus, the inner shell part of Commuter was pulling around lip next to volume button, something actually common with other phones, but not as bad on UAG. And also, I prefer one piece case design for a quick on'and'off the phone. Both Commuter and UAG offer the same level of protection. Just in my opinion the only disadvantage of UAG is the boxy shape which a number of people comment on being uncomfortable to hold. I had no problem with it, and personally I don't have bear hands. Regarding design details, also a matter of personal opinion. Some people loved original S3/iPhone UAG design without back grill. I think that grill makes it unique and I constantly have people asking me about the case. I'm actually will go as far as carrying it in CONVERT holster (perfect fit) once it gets warmer and winter jackets are off, and I never carry my smart phones on a belt lol!!!

Sorry, I didn't mean to put Commuter case down. If you like it - don't second guess it. If you want to try another case which is not sold at the stores, make sure you deal with Amazon for an easy return. Probably not the best idea to buy 10 cases and pick a choose what you like, that's why hopefully my reviews on this forum will help you guys narrow it down to a few you are trying to select.

I just upgraded to a GN2 yesterday and was originally on the fence about getting a case. As a general rule of thumb I hate cases. In my experience they seldom offer any benefit for me. They make the phone too big, too hard to use, the cover is either too tight making it very difficult to install or remove, or too big thus allowing the phone to swim in the case. I'm weird though because I hate screen protectors as well. I owned a Droid Bionic without either a case or a screen protector and never once had an issue, which included dropping the phone a few times.

The Note II is a different story though. The case may as well be made of ice and then rubbed down in olive oil. That phone would slide on sand, what a crazy design. Anyway I realized very quickly that a case was an absolute requirement. I went to the local cell phone accessory store called Cases4Phones. Whadya know, they sell cases for phones! The Otterbox reminded me of all the other tank like cases I've tried in the past. I have no desire to own a 3-part case that feels like I have a toaster in my pocket. After trying the Trident Aegis case I was immediately sold. It was incredibly easy to install, love that it is one single piece, but fits tightly once on. Yet easy enough to remove for whatever reason might arise. And now it doesn't slide when I set it on the back of my pet alligator. Seriously though, this is a great case that also protects the ports while making everything easy to get to. It includes a screen protector and screen cleaning cloth (that is larger than a postage stamp) as well. Highly recommended!

I just received my Tuff Shield case for the Note 2, and so far I like it. I have been searching for a case that covered a substantial part of the front face, so that screen protectors would not lift away on the edges. The Tuff Shield does this better than the others I have tried. The other thing I required was that it had to fit in my Reiko leather belt case (yeah, I wear a man purse on my belt) and the Tuff Shield fits that as well. Best part was that it was a whopping $5.00 on Amazon (Shipping and all).
